OOC Chat

Conduct all Out of Character chat here.

This thread gets pruned regularly, so don't place anything here that is vital.
Let the GAMES begin.

HEY!

Please read this site-wide set of rules for posting format. Here's the specific section I am talking about.

How to Write In Rifts: Merctown but ALSO in Century Station wrote:

1. Your character cannot post in more than one location at a time (you can't be in two places at once).

2. When departing a scene/thread, you MUST note of where you're going in the content of the post and post to that new location.
Example: John waves to everyone "Well, it's been fun guys, bye!"
(Quiet Warrior Inn)

3. When a character enters a scene they cannot "overhear" more than one post prior to their arrival. (i.e., you have to roleplay ignorance of the thread.)

4. All posts will be done in the 3rd person present tense.
Example (for you non-English majors): Dave walks into the bar and says "Ouch."
If this grammar is beyond your understanding you should do one of two things:
a) Get hold of me or another DM via YIM or PM so that we can explain things more clearly for you.
b) Play on another PBP site. We have standards and do things a bit differently here on PbP RPG.

5. Spoken text must be written inside quotes.
Example:
John the Psycho Clown wrote:John says "Hi there young man, how are you?"

6. Posted thoughts must be written in italics.
Example:
John the Psycho Clown wrote:John sees an out-of place concession at the airport. Well, that's strange...a shaved ice stand in Alaska?

7. Certain GMs will ask for different formats, please understand that these are the default requirements for use on this website.

Short-hand list for PbP RPG writing customs:
Plain text is descriptive narrative.
Italicized text is used to convey a character's thoughts/internal monologue.
"Bold text is verbal speech. Please note that the quotes are inside the tags used to bold the text."
Telepathy is italicized and light blue in color (color=#0040FF).
"Verbal speech conducted via electronic means like radio, is bolded and colored dark blue (color=#0000FF)."

If you're talking, quotes around both ends and bold it. If you're thinking, make the thoughts dialogue and italicize it. Anything else is incorrect and detracts from our ability to enjoy this game.

That is all.
Let the GAMES begin.

Did anyone else pick up on the fact that one of the purported good guys did not seem to know the name of their enemies. Barney was thinking, "children in trouble" and overlooked it at first.

I did pick up a certain vibe that they were not at all telling the truth or aware of there situation. That and the the veiled threat a child might make...yes I did see a few things that have Wi-Fi on alert.
If my post is too stupidly written to read...ask me for a translation or hit me up in Hangouts.

I just want the Ultra's out of the room so we can decide. I figure they are telling us truth. just they may be missing something we would not over look. My guess is when we get the facts they have that will explain most things. That whole we will not register with CHIMERA rubbed me. They don't need to give names behind the Cowel so to speak. I would not expect that...but to cooperate and be more diplomatic...is expected. (That or Wi-Fi is crabby and not in the mood to be threatened.)

Though this does bring up an idea..a hero registry for visiting heroes should be used. I'll mention in my next post.

And you might notice a theme: Procurement not Research.

Hey folks!
Thank you for such detailed procurement requests! There are lots of tinkering related requests here. I think we should start getting these projects underway using the Tinkering tracking topic tacked to this forum. I always try to ignore intense rules like the tinkering ones, but they do work well. So if you guys will take a look into them, so will I and we can start these projects! I'll add some relevant links in the next 24 hours or so.

So if you guys will take a look into them, so will I and we can start these projects! I'll add some relevant links in the next 24 hours or so.
Will do ... I'll add a bit of that write up (pending GM review/approval of course).

Just a heads up .. Eventually I will also be doing something similar for Daryl with the self taught skills thing .. but later when there is a better IC opportunity to do so.

Between already listed and a plane that looks like winner. Easy make and should give us all xp. Will post up soon for group approval.

Edit as for that plane I'm certain we can over time make (and earn us experience). Again we will need stats, but it looks feasible in design and something we could have up and running in a week of dedicated work given the talent pool. The future of Omega air travel It is able to hold 6 and while not able to land in street...we have the hover truck for street work.
If my post is too stupidly written to read...ask me for a translation or hit me up in Hangouts.

Only as an offer to try and help.
I put a post up for some of the relevant book references for Empire's Robotic Suit Repairs .. in the Tinkering Section.

Not for Daryl himself .. He is working on the other project .. and Daryl isn't qualified to do more than minor assistance at most anyway .. Basic Electronics and Basic Mechanics .. It's more for helping other PCs who have better / more advanced electrical and mechanical skills than Daryl does.

Faraday has the highest / most advanced Robotics (Mechanical and Electrical) Skills
But
Sentinel also has the needed skills.

Sentinel's Multiples all equally as proficient as he is .. all combined .. they could potentially get allot of those work hours completed every day.

Guys, awesome job on the Dossiers! They look good and the information is pretty concise. Also there basic and basic is good to get the info across. lots of wiggle room from a GM perspective and I do like wiggle room when I gm Basic and second edition DnD.

My bad if I was wrong :(
GM's call of course.

- - - - -

What my line of thinking was based on.
Player posts prior to a GM post are only intended actions .. not what actually happens.

Than the GM posts , describing what actually happened .. and sometimes GM post also includes fast forward / montage / etc.

Soo following that sequence .. Presense and Brennet each posted IC what they intended to do .. than GM posted what actually did happen over that period of time .. In this case Brennet was subjected to a psychic like effect .. one which he had already posted JIC roll to use for that time period in which the effect acted on him .. thus the GM when they make their post , is able to know if a PC makes a save or not .. And than I posted IC response accordingly.

- - - - - -

In the alternative .. if I was supposed to use the JIC roll from my post after the GM had posted .. to cover weather I made a saving throw for events during the GM post .. that seems out of sync to me .. it would mean the GM when they make their post would never know if a PC had made a save or not .. because that would make GM posts extremely difficult / near impossible .. I would still think the GM uses for events in their post the previously posted JIC rolls.

JIC rolls are used by the GM when writing the GM posts. Therefore, after each GM post, you must provide new JIC rolls.

And it would be my understanding that ..
the loop repeats .. those next new JIC rolls provided after the GM post .. will be used by the GM when writing the next GM posts.

ie .. for example:

JIC Roll A
IC intended actions A

GM post what actually happens for A .. using previous JIC Rolls and intended actions A

JIC Roll B
IC intended actions B

GM post what actually happens for B .. using previous JIC Rolls and intended actions B.

etc ...

- - - - - - - - - -
The events of the GM post (what actually happened) in 'A' are always referring to the previous JIC rolls 'A' .. not the new ones 'B' made after that GM post 'A' .. The 'B' rolls will be applied in the 'B' GM post of what actually happens in 'B'.

Hi folks! With the abstract and asynchronous nature of the pbp world, this is a valid question.

Thankfully, I do have an answer, born from years and far too many years of gming pbp games.

In short, every roll before a gm post is void for actions after the gm post. The dice start over after a gm post

The gm post is based on the actions, rolls, narrative, etc. of all the character posts that have been posted since the previous gm post. The active gm post provides the basis for the characters to respond to. It all comes down to the golden rule of pbp: give your gm lots of money. The silver rule is also important: players post intentions, gms post results.

Of course, being who I am, this can get a tad mushy at times. Rest assured that my intention is always to enhance the story and the character's agency.

That help?

As far as I had figured, JiC rolls were for the GM to use, and not to be applied by the player to things. Mostly because a JiC roll would be applied to the next GM post, not the next player post. If the GM didn't address something in the post, I would probably ask before making an action based on personal interpretation.

I perfectly understand why you used the JiC roll, but I didn't think it was appropriate because as I had understood it at the time it was solely the GM who used and made actions based on the JiC roll. Coupled with the "don't use rolls from before a gm post for actions/responses made after the GM post," I can understand that being a problem. We've already moved past it IC, so I don't feel we should go back and try to re-do/retcon actions at this point OOC.

In any case, with this sorted hopefully we won't run into any more problems, either on your end or on mine. :P I'm sure I'll make a bunch more mistakes before we're done, so no harm, no foul here. Was just curious as to the course of action that was meant to be taken.

lots of money? I'll work on that one. :)

and ya, I like that rule. the JiC rolls cover most surprises or situations a player runs into.

In this instance .. I think the confusion was due to my poor phrasing .. leading to a misunderstanding of the sequence , of what things were being applied to what.

My apologize , you aren't the 1st (nor likely to be the last) victim of instances of my failing to communicate successfully .. as some others in this group have already (unfortunately) had previous experience with .. :(

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
#1 -- Logged as May 16 2017 3:29 pm
I made a intended IC post with JIC rolls

#2 -- Logged as May 21 2017 11:55pm
GM posted the result of those intentions (using among other things those #1 JIC Rolls) .. It is in that post that the GM described the (not intended) but actual event that happened .. of Brennet Hearing the verbal command .. thus that was the time in that GM post the GM was applying Brennet's #1 JIC roll to that event.

#3 -- Logged as May 23 2017 3:35 pm
I made a intended IC post that included (in part) describing those previous GM events (that already happened).

In which .. I was describing the past events of GM #2 .. It was those past events of #2 that used the previous #1 JIC rolls .. Brennet had already made or failed his save in that previous GM#2 part of the sequence .. in this case Brennet's JIC failed that save .. My explanation in #3 just included a partial description of those previous events .. as an explanation .. to help give context insight for the #3 intended actions , posting as a response after #2.
- - - - - - - - - - - -

It would have been wrong of me to try and use my JIC#3 to apply to the events of GM#2 .. expo-facto.
Those GM#2 events were already done (using previous JIC#1) .. By the time of my #3 , I've already made or failed the save in #2 , I've already dodged or been hit by attacks in #2 .. etc.

So you're aiming to be the complete opposite of Presence at this point. :P. Though I suppose the correct statement would be that Presence is attempting to be the opposite of Brennet.

Still, I find it funny to imagine a character with both Divine Aura and Unnoteworthy/Forgettable.

Presence wrote:So you're aiming to be the complete opposite of Presence at this point. :P. Though I suppose the correct statement would be that Presence is attempting to be the opposite of Brennet.

Still, I find it funny to imagine a character with both Divine Aura and Unnoteworthy/Forgettable.
It's a perfect Yin/Yang relationship 8)

It's a great synergy contrast .. Presence's natural ... presence .. works beautifully .. All that much easier for people to look at her and over look Brennet .. Remember her , forget Brennet.

Oh my my holiday friends...
I have been rolling super bad (from the bad guys point of view) for this entire adventure. Unfortunately, the dice apparently like Santa and his henchmen now. I had no idea they could do that much damage so quickly...

Brennet & Presence:
You guys kind of don't need much right now in terms of GM stuff. Presence's mission is to get Brennet back to Omega HQ. Brennet's mission is to be all meta and use every means to rationalize that as a good idea.
