Premature Ragnarok

If supernatural evil feels persecuted, you can bet the Templar are responsible.

The rest seemed to cover the big questions she had. Teres would ask about the Housecarl later unless something came up that was directly attached.
”Brom Ironsides, the punished… had been called forth to see if he’s learned his lesson. Sadly the answer is still unclear, but omens have come to my ears that there is some manner of evil fomenting in my lands. So I have tasked him with seeking it out and dealing with it."
"All Father," she pauses, "Did you get the impression of a particular object, person or place with the warning?" Teres asks carefully. God or not she did not feel like she should hold back. A king of the gods should be able to handle a question. If he mentions something she knew or read about it would a good thing.

”Brom Ironsides, the punished… had been called forth to see if he’s learned his lesson. Sadly the answer is still unclear, but omens have come to my ears that there is some manner of evil fomenting in my lands. So I have tasked him with seeking it out and dealing with it. He’s informed me that he hired you to accompany him to this meeting. So I offer riches and baubles for you to help him in his quest since it seems technically outside his original agreement. What say you, Templar?”
"Count me in, All Father." she says calmly and in a careful tone not offend a god. Teres knew how fickle animals and weather could be. A god was akin to a force of nature and was the same. More so someone (thing?) centuries old would develop certain responses just like people probably. Better to not find out now. Even the gifts of gods could come with some potent strings. better to worry later about rewards. she could use an armor grade for a more durable cloak. In truth the chance to explore Asgard alone was payment enough.

Rory happily files in along with the others, taking care not to put herself forward too much.

If this is the big boss around here, and he's tough enough that Brom shows him respect, he's like way out of my league. Head down, Rory, and try to fit in with the others.
Jason Long wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 6:02 pm "Allfather, I am Jason Long and I speak for the Templar." Jason's voice is calm and respectful. "We accept this quest. Indeed the Templar were originally founded for the purpose of combating supernatural evil. " Jason looks questioningly at Cato and the two ladies. "This task is not why you came here, but we would welcome any assistance."
Rory looks a little surprised at how quickly Jason agrees to take on the task, but tries to keep the surprise from her face.

Man, that was quick. Either he really wants to work for this guy, or there's something I'm missing.

She pauses as she thinks it through, then nods in agreement. Behind that facade though, her mind is flicking through possibilities.

He wants us to deal with it. That means either it's something he can't do himself, which is a touch concerning. Or it's a test - which makes one wonder - if that's just a test, what task is it testing us for? Or perhaps it's not that he can't deal with it, it's that he chooses not to. Maybe he has other demands on his time, or maybe it's something that wouldn't reflect well on him, or maybe...

As her thoughts start to spin in never-ending circles, she blinks a couple of times and focuses herself again.

Maybe I should spend less time thinking and more time listening, hmm?

She returns her attention to the conversation as Rufus finishes speaking.

Damn, what did he say? Crud, what did I miss? Don't show anything, just nod once as if I agree with whatever it was he said.

She nods as soon as she realizes that Rufus has indeed finished speaking and tries to focus on the conversation.

Rory.

Premature Ragnarok: Prologue

Mission Notes
The hall the Templar sit in has a bit of opulence, but not the kind one would expect of gods, though not many in the group have had the pleasure of being in the actual presence of gods in their halls. Jason is quick to speak.
Jason wrote:"Allfather, I am Jason Long and I speak for the Templar. We accept this quest. The Templar will continue with Brom Ironsides until he releases us. Both to honor our agreement, and to fight this evil. Indeed the Templar were originally founded for the purpose of combating supernatural evil."
Rufus quickly adds his agreement.
Rufus wrote:"Agreed, Plus, we've been blessed to have had an agent of Asgard ride and fight along with us for these past few months. If being of service to Asgard here and now will return the favor -- and possibly earn ourselves some measure of your respect in the process, mighty Allfather -- then we stand ready to assist however we can."
Followed by Teres.
Teres wrote:"Count me in, All Father."
The old man who may or may not be the being known as Odin, the All Father of the Norse Pantheon shakes his head with a small chuckle. ”Mr Long, I do not believe you entirely speak for your group if more than one of them need to add to the agreement. But it is noted.” He says, the tone almost jovial, or something close to it. Jason takes the time to look to Cato and his people.
Jason wrote:"This task is not why you came here, but we would welcome any assistance."
Cato shakes his head. ”I am no warrior, and would be more of a hindrance than a help.” Cato says.

Lady Hall speaks up. ”I am tasked with his safety and would not suggest he undertake such a task.” Lady Hall says.
Nora wrote:"Fighting evil is the reason I became a Knight. Our task was given by arguably the most important person in our organization, but he would not want it to come in the way of putting down evil and saving innocents from danger. Should Lady Hall and Cato deem it appropriate, I would be glad to give aid, however long it's needed, and if they still require my services I would seek you out after if you still wish for the help."
Lady Hall looks at her apprentice/squire and nods. ”You may join them if you so wish, but do so with care.” Lady Hall says.
Nora wrote:"Don't deem me a burden to lay treasures upon. I am not a Templar, and would be doing this of my own accord. This is your task, and I do not wish to intrude where I am not welcome."
The old man shakes his head. ”I would be remiss if I didn’t say I don’t easily trust a being who would perform a task without payment. But that is between you and your own. I care not what you do with whatever I end up rewarding for the task.” He says, in tone that borders on a lecture.
Calvin wrote:"Allfather, could you clarify what your sources have told you about the impending evil that is fomenting in your lands? Where should we start to look and what does this troublesome presence look like?"
Rufus wrote:"Again, agreed... The more we know going in, the better. Please, mighty Allfather, continue."
The old man looks towards Calvin. ”A demigod in my realms… from… hmmm. Interesting. One of my Ravens spotted an old foe unearthing something in the frozen northern reaches. I have been unable to find out much more than that. As you may be aware, no being is omniscient. I would head north west and begin investigating there.” he says
Teres wrote:"All Father, Did you get the impression of a particular object, person or place with the warning?"
The old man looks to Teres. ”The impression… no. I am aware that Frittengern Bonecaster, the Nightwraith, is involved. Which means he likely has many minions under his control.” He says, pausing for a moment.

”Brom’s current task is to find out what the Nightwraith is plotting or doing, and stop him by any means necessary. Brom can likely answer questions about the Nightwraith, I have other tasks to handle.” He says as he stands up, a spear appears in his hand like a large walking stick. ”Brom do not fail me. The blessings of Valhalla upon you all.” He says before discorporating into a swarm of ravens and flying from the openings in the building.

Cato speaks up in the quiet. ”Well that is certainly one of the more interesting things that have happened in my life.” The old wolfen says with a chuckle.

What are your intentions

Oh wow, old man is funny. Calvin is somewhat glad that this entity does not take himself _too_ seriously, but is wary nonetheless should tempers eventually fray.
Cato and co wrote: Cato shakes his head. ”I am no warrior, and would be more of a hindrance than a help.” Cato says.

Lady Hall speaks up. ”I am tasked with his safety and would not suggest he undertake such a task.” Lady Hall says.
Hearing that, Calvin was a bit disappointed.
Oh well. Let's leave them be I guess. Rufus will have to hook up with them later when we get back.
lady hall wrote: Lady Hall looks at her apprentice/squire and nods. ”You may join them if you so wish, but do so with care.” Lady Hall says.
Calvin is however pretty glad that Dr. Nora Roberts would be joining them.
So the knight lady comes with us? That's cool. She also wears heavish armor? This is good!
ALLFATHER wrote: The old man shakes his head. ”I would be remiss if I didn’t say I don’t easily trust a being who would perform a task without payment. But that is between you and your own. I care not what you do with whatever I end up rewarding for the task.” He says, in tone that borders on a lecture.
Calvin ponders some jeers to himself, then decides that he should be quiet.
All father is a businessman. All father is a Business, man!
ALLFATHER wrote: The old man looks towards Calvin. ”A demigod in my realms… from… hmmm. Interesting. One of my Ravens spotted an old foe unearthing something in the frozen northern reaches. I have been unable to find out much more than that. As you may be aware, no being is omniscient. I would head north west and begin investigating there.” he says
Showing none of his irreverent thoughts, Calvin simply nods and says. "Allfather, I do not mean to intrude. I have no standing in any pantheon. My father has merely tasked me only to go where there are good works to do. So I'm riding with these fine folks."
Allfather wrote: ”The impression… no. I am aware that Frittengern Bonecaster, the Nightwraith, is involved. Which means he likely has many minions under his control.” He says, pausing for a moment.

Cato speaks up in the quiet. ”Well that is certainly one of the more interesting things that have happened in my life.” The old wolfen says with a chuckle.
Sounding utterly unimpressed, Calvin says:
"Maybe he'll be keeping an eye on us through one those birds."

Calvin looks at Brom with a wry smile. He says:
"Brom, I've never heard of Nightwraiths, you're gonna have to tell me what they are and what kind of minions they like to associate with."
I wonder if his punishment is going to come up in the next bit of back and forth, or I'll have to ask the awkward question directly.

Once he gets his response, Calvin turns to Dr. Nora and says:
"I really appreciate you offering your help. Since Jason has extended the invite to your group already, why don't you get your stuff and meet us by our group transport? Our robot is parked just half a mile outside of town by some fields. We came from the South, so look in that direction first. It's a really big robot so you shouldn't miss it."

Calvin turns to Jason and says:
"Do we need anything else in town before we head out? I think we're pretty much good to go."

Calvin is visibly chomping at the bit to seperate some evil being, limb from limb, supernaturally. He earnestly waits for a response.
Calvin's sheet.
Calvin's favorite song.

In the back of the junkie scholar's mind she's coming to the dull awareness she wants drugs and didn't plan at all for that on this trip. And we just agreed to extend the stop. Noo... Oh no..... This isn't going to go well. I can't be getting dopesick in one of these sketchy places Magnus likes to traipse off to.

She nods to Odin, The night Wraith implies one person like a nickname. Could be a vampire or other creature too. We will see what Brom says. It seemed she was not the only with secrets around here. To be fair most people had them, if not then they did not live interesting lives.

Cato speaks up in the quiet. ”Well that is certainly one of the more interesting things that have happened in my life.” The old wolfen says with a chuckle.

Teres grins moving one her braids to the side. looking around the room for anything of interest and Housecarl looking person. they were people of rank so military or house elite made sense. would like to know about where raiders hid or camped back during the raids. we can use those sites to camp.

"Are we taking the behemoth or should we just take hover cycles and fly? another option is local transports I suppose." she ask looking to Jason as Teres fixes a strap on her kit.

Conditions:
- P.P.E.: 273/313 as of the start of this post
- Metamorphosis: Human: roughly 149 minutes remaining.
- Sustain: 8 days remaining at the start of this post
Sustain allows the recipient of this enchantment to go for days without food, water, or breathable air! The magic keeps their energy level up and removes the need for any outside source of these things. In addition, the recipient only needs two hours sleep per night for the duration of the magic. The individual can survive in almost any environment. However, the character remains vulnerable to other external conditions such as heat, cold, and physical damage, and fatigues from exertion as normal. This spell is a must for serious explorers and dimensional travelers.

Skills:
- Sense Magic in Use: Up to 900’ (274.3 m) away.

Bonecaster... Rufus says to himself, his totally-human-and-not-at-all-magically-disguised-kankoran eyes narrowing at the thought. I'm not entirely sure if I should be surprised or not.
Odin wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 10:50 am”Brom do not fail me. The blessings of Valhalla upon you all.” He says before discorporating into a swarm of ravens and flying from the openings in the building.
Rufus can't help but whistle softly as Odin departs. "Say what you want, he definitely knows how to make an exit..."

"I'll say -- you came to meet with the Jarl and wound up meeting with a god," Rufus grins. "You sure you don't want to come with? You've told me and Septimus some pretty fantastic adventure stories over the years. Would be good to actually live out one of them in the making." Assuming Cato is insistent on his departure, he nods in disappointed acceptance. "Figured as much. Oh well. Take care, stari stric. Hope to see you again soon." He gives his uncle a big parting hug. "Be sure to smack Seppy upside the head for me, will ya?" He adds with a grin.

"We've got... history..." Rufus glances at Calvin, then at Brom. "Seems your nemesis is becoming our nemesis, Prijatelj. You think he's still sulking over our last outing, or do you think he's been working on this since before all that?"

And if a disembodied voice asks if you would like some ice cream, radio me. Immediately." He adds with a chuckle before snapping his fingers. "Oh, and speaking of... you'll need this." He gives her the Templar radio frequency. "Welcome to the Templar, officially or unofficially."

I'd suggest taking our portable base camp with one or two scouts flying ahead. We get signs we're starting to get close we can button things up on it and go in smaller, stealthier, and faster. What do you think?"

Jason sighs inwardly. Way to make your 'leader' look like a chump, guys. At least Odin didn't take offense.

That is one proud lady. Jason both admires and cringes at the balls it takes to tell that to the king of the gods in his own realm. If a god offers you something for a task, accept with honor and grace. For some reason this reminds him a a line from an old movie, one of the guys in the barracks used to quote, " if someone asks you if you are a god, you say "Yes".
Consumer wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 10:50 am The old man looks to Teres. ”The impression… no. I am aware that Frittengern Bonecaster, the Nightwraith, is involved. Which means he likely has many minions under his control.” He says, pausing for a moment.
Jason is snapped out of his reverie at the name. Crap him again? Then Jason's mind begins to work. Things will be much different this time. He is not quite ready to face the army of the undead and demons as a priest, but he does have Bonaparte with him on this trip. He wonders how undead will hold up to plasma shells and the ion cannon. He says a quick mental prayer to Athena that he receives her blessing before fighting them, knowing that with Athena's aid, the battles will be easier.
Consumer wrote: Tue May 13, 2025 10:50 am ”Brom’s current task is to find out what the Nightwraith is plotting or doing, and stop him by any means necessary. The blessings of Valhalla upon you all.” He says before discorporating into a swarm of ravens and flying from the openings in the building.
Nice effect, Odin is exactly as expected from Jesse's book. Jason considers how the Templar are equipped, now that they know what kinds of opponents they will be facing. He could wish for more 105 shells, but otherwise, he considers himself well equipped.

I'd suggest taking our portable base camp with one or two scouts flying ahead. We get signs we're starting to get close we can button things up on it and go in smaller, stealthier, and faster. What do you think?"
Jason faces Rufus, nodding. " We take the Behemoth for now, with two scouts flying ahead. We don't know how far we will have to travel to find the Nightwraith's forces. I doubt that they are too close, since there is no sense of alarm in this town." He turns to take in the others. "We have faced this Nightwraith before. In our last battle, we faced a literal army of demons and undead. Thanks to Brom, we survived. Once we leave town, no one goes off on their own. Always have another person with you if you go to scout or leave the camp. If there is an army of darkness out there, it will be too easy for them to overwhelm a single person before they can even call it in. "

Jason stands up, "Why don't we return to the Behemoth, where Lady Nora can stow her gear and Brom can tell us more about what we may be facing. Also, the mayor probably would like his hall back so he can have his meeting with Cato. Cato, Lady Hall, thank you for allowing Lady Nora to accompany us. I wish you success in your meeting. " With that, Jason leads the way back to the Behemoth.

"While we're travelling, I'd really appreciate a run down of what and who we're dealing with."

Turning to Jason, Calvin says:

"We should sort out a game plan and our roles in a firefight, before we get into one as well."

Nora gives a small smile at the response, and gives her mentor a grateful nod of the head, simultaneously thanking her and assuring her that she would be careful. I can't help others if I'm dead or dying, after all.
old man wrote:The old man shakes his head. ”I would be remiss if I didn’t say I don’t easily trust a being who would perform a task without payment. But that is between you and your own. I care not what you do with whatever I end up rewarding for the task.” He says, in tone that borders on a lecture.
The Cyber-Knight is about to respond, but stops herself, simply accepting what she sees as words of advice. She listens quietly to what the old man has to say about the task, an eyebrow raising at the mention of Calvin's demi-divinity, but focusing on the task ahead. I hope we'll be asking Brom plenty of questions, then. I'd rather go into this as informed as possible. When he dissipates into ravens, Nora blinks once, but given his likely divine nature, doesn't dwell on it too much.

She turns to Cato and smiles. "It was good to travel with you. Stay safe. You too, Lady Hall." With that, she focuses her attention to the tasks at hand, moving to where Jason and the rest of the Templars are. As it seems questions for Brom have already been asked, she listens in patiently.
Calvin wrote:"I really appreciate you offering your help. Since Jason has extended the invite to your group already, why don't you get your stuff and meet us by our group transport? Our robot is parked just half a mile outside of town by some fields. We came from the South, so look in that direction first. It's a really big robot so you shouldn't miss it."
Rufus wrote:"Ditto that. All of it. Our Behemoth sticks out in this rustic setting like a bar of soap in a coal scuttle -- it's almost impossible to miss it. And if a disembodied voice asks if you would like some ice cream, radio me. Immediately." He adds with a chuckle before snapping his fingers. "Oh, and speaking of... you'll need this." He gives her the Templar radio frequency. "Welcome to the Templar, officially or unofficially."
Jason wrote:"Why don't we return to the Behemoth, where Lady Nora can stow her gear and Brom can tell us more about what we may be facing."
Lady Nora rests a hand on her hip, nodding and saving/memorizing the frequency. "Thank you. Just how big is this Behemoth? Is it big enough to have lab space, by any chance?" she asks, before grinning. "Actually, I want to find out for myself." Now that the god isn't in the room with them, the Knight seems to be a bit more lax with how she's talking. "I need to go pick up Sterope in any case; she's probably getting antsy at being stabled up for this long. I look forward to working with you all on this."

Once Jason starts leading the group, she'll take note of their direction, ask where they're going just in case, and splits off to pick up her steed.

Calvin follows Jason out of the hall. Once they are outside, he lets Jason know he's going to sprint back to the Behemoth and make sure it's ready for new people to arrive.

As he begins to depart for the robot, he hears Dr. Nora:
Dr. Nora wrote: "I need to go pick up Sterope in any case; she's probably getting antsy at being stabled up for this long. I look forward to working with you all on this."
Once he gets back to the robot, he quickly tidies up the storage area to give Dr. Nora a bit more room for her horse...

Steraupe, huh... Would a horse be comfortable here? Shit... We probably should have asked before we volunteered...

I guess we'll just lay down some hay? Or they are gonna be horse riding?

Calvin says to Dr. Nora quietly:

"Excuse me, we have some storage area but it's not a functional stable. Would you like us to purchase some hay and quickly put something together so that your steed would be more comfortable?"

Calvin nervously waits for a reply.

Hay? Why would he- Nora laughs and gives an apologetic smile to the demigod, waving off the offer with, "Oh, no, sorry for the misunderstanding. Sterope won't need anything except a maintenance kit and about a 10x5x8 space in case something goes wrong and she needs to be shacked up in your 'bot. She is a robot herself, after all."

She chuckles once. "If you've got enough space, that is. She's probably capable of keeping up pace, unless your transport is particularly speedy."

Nora taps her fingers along her leg in thought. 50 mph tops? Sterope won't have a problem with that even if we're traveling far enough she needs to hang back on her flight. As for the gun...

At the awesome comment, Nora's grin widens. "Trust me, she's more awesome than you'd expect from the average robo-horse. As for Sterope's storage, it's some extra room so someone can work on her if needed. But she can do 50mph easy, rough or flat terrain, so storing her should only be in a 'she can't canter anymore' scenario."

She gives Calvin a nod. "Would appreciate the gun. I'll keep it maintained while in my care, and I'll pay it off if I end up deciding to keep. Can use anything energy-based, from pistols to plasma cannons, along with railguns and other heavy-duty weapons should you need a heavy gunner. Carrying them could be an issue, though." She gives a small shrug. "I'm only human. Don't have any comic book super-strength like robots or 'borgs do."

Plasma Ejectors and a Railgun? And that's not including their lighter gear? They're fairly kitted out. I suppose if they're do-gooder mercenaries, that makes sense, Nora thinks to herself as she straightens out her ponytail. She then does a quick weight estimate by shifting from foot to foot, feeling the current weight of her gear.

"The lighter Plasma Ejector sounds good. I could carry the heavier one, but I'd only be able to carry, say, fifteen or so pounds beyond that before I start feeling encumbered. As for combat roles, I don't really know enough about the group yet to say anything of value on that front." She gives a frown, not wanting to leave Calvin with nothing. "But my instinct is to slot me in as a scout-and-response. Sterope lets me get in and out of combat quick, and I'm not experienced to go face-to-face with something really tough for long. Also lets me switch between heavy-gunning and melee when I need to. That'd make us a very hit-and-run type of group, maybe a bait-and-ambush type in the right situation, given what the others seem to lean towards, with you and possibly Jason working comms and providing artillery."

  • I.S.P.: 2
  • Saving Throw: None.
  • Bonuses: The sudden flash of insight provides the following bonuses. All bonuses apply only to the first, initial melee when the attack/danger occurs. Bonuses are lost in subsequent melee rounds after the danger is revealed. +6 on initiative roll, +2 to parry, +3 to dodge, and the character can not be surprised by a sneak attack from behind.

Dr. Nora wrote: "The lighter Plasma Ejector sounds good.
"Oh, this is my first official job with these guys. Rufus is a leyline walker, Rory is a high magus, Jason is training to be a priest and I trained under the mystic knights of the order of the white rose. Between the group of seven here, three of us are already spell casters, one is going to be. Teres is a Psi Druid from Texas and due to my *ahem* heritage, I also have the gift of Psionics. Teres is generally the wilderness scout, although Rufus likes to fly ahead using spells as well. I can scout as well, but I feel like I'm often needed elsewhere.

When we fight, the plan is to try and keep the Behemoth out of it as much as possible. Jason is a robot pilot from another dimension and he's brought his fighting vehicle with him. Rufus likes to use pistols, I like energy rifles and Teres is great with a bow. We have a bevy of skills and talents but IMHO, we can stand to have an outside opinion on how our acumen fits better together. Hit and run tactics bode well if we get the jump on people, but it is the scenarios when we get surprised, we are less than effective because we don't have our roles already established.
"

"Some food for thought."

As the group arrives at the Behemoth, Calvin will help Dr. Nora to load her robot horse into the storage area, then show her to one of the empty rooms. If she is up for it, he will give a quick tour of the vehicle, including the various lab spaces and medical facilities onboard. Then he will find the NG-E4 in the main storage area, along with five eclips and place it in Dr. Nora's room. Then he will head to the cockpit and get ready for departure.

Rory's ears prick up as she hears the conversation from around the corner.

Robot horse? Cool. Seen them, never had the chance to have a good look at one. I wonder if she'd let me?

She waits for the conversation to die down a little before wandering in..

"Did I hear that ye have a robot horse? I've heard of 'em, but I've only ever seen 'em in passing. They did nae have any back where I were training, y'see, and it weren't on the curriculum at all. I'd love ta have a chat ta ye about them sometime, if ye don't mind. Apologies if I'm overstepping me bounds, but It'd be nice ta know a bit about them if there's any need ta do some damage repair sometime in the future."

She shrugs.

"Between engineering and spellcasting, I always seem ta run out of time before I run out of tasks. Which reminds me, if ye stick around with us fer a while, I'll have ta make a special bag fer ye. Kind of a magic trick more'n'anything, but useful. Anyway, welcome ta ye, and feel free ta pop in and chat anytime."

She nods and walks back around the corner. About five seconds later she pops her head back around.

"Oh, Calvin. The spell research worked. Added a couple of neat combat spells ta me repertoire. I'll probably need a sit down with ye sometime so I can figure out how ta use 'em effectively. Anyway, toodles."

With a smile and a wave of her hand, she disappears around the corner again.

Premature Ragnarok: Prologue

Mission Notes
With Odin’s departure, and the general conversation going in several directions, Rufus talks with his uncle.
Rufus wrote:"I'll say -- you came to meet with the Jarl and wound up meeting with a god, You sure you don't want to come with? You've told me and Septimus some pretty fantastic adventure stories over the years. Would be good to actually live out one of them in the making."
The smile Cato returns is hollow, as if the old Wolfen has seen something like the current situation and didn’t like the outcome. ”Of course my nephew. We’re going to see if the Jarl wants to chat still. So I leave you to multiverse changing events.”
Rufus wrote:"Figured as much. Oh well. Take care, stari stric. Hope to see you again soon.Be sure to smack Seppy upside the head for me, will ya?"
Cato hugs Rufus back and heads off to the far end of the hall to talk with the Jarl.
Calvin wrote:"Brom, I've never heard of Nightwraiths, you're gonna have to tell me what they are and what kind of minions they like to associate with."
Rufus wrote:"We've got... history... Seems your nemesis is becoming our nemesis, Prijatelj. You think he's still sulking over our last outing, or do you think he's been working on this since before all that?"
Brom nods. ”Fairly simple, he’s immortal, a Necromancer, and will associate with any evil entity that will work for him. Lately he’s been traveling with what I assume is another immortal named Crimnor Harsk, a blood mage of some sort, I’ve never ran into ilk like him before. As for why he’s here… I doubt the Templar are the reason, he has history with the Northern Vigir, as long as I have been alive, and that has been a long time.” Brom says, it’s clear his answer is as complete as he can give.

When the conversation turns to the group leaving immediately, Brom speaks up. ”You may want to wait for your friend to return before rushing off to fight the unknown. Didn’t she say she’d be back in a few hours?” Brom says noting the very missing Jessie.

With that the Templar make their way to the Behemoth and easily get everything stowed away. It’s here that Calvin and Nora have a rather lengthy conversation.

What are your intentions

Calvin responds with another question:

"When you mean immortal, does this mean he lives forever but he can be killed, or is he like a demon, where he is resurrected in a different plane and he never really goes away, or do you mean like a vampire, where he is invulnerable to most types of attacks?"

Calvin waits for Brom to respond.

"A blood mage huh..."

"Brom, do you think we need to stock up on silver weapons or are we gonna be fine on our current load out?"

Calvin racks his brain for information about blood mages.
Background included his dad dragging troops to Hades. Would he have stories?

He also reflects back about any rumors where blood mages come from, if they are a particular kind of magic that is native to various Demon dimensions.

(After conversation with Dr. Nora)

Brom wrote: ”You may want to wait for your friend to return before rushing off to fight the unknown. Didn’t she say she’d be back in a few hours?” Brom says noting the very missing Jessie.
Calvin brings up the following: "Does Jessie have a radio? Maybe we can page her and tell her we are done with our meeting. In the mean time, if there is any more prep we can do, we should get on it before we have to take off."

Calvin takes a deep breath and then says: "What I do want to bring up is, since we are looking for a fight here, we should pick and choose how we are going to engage. Also, an undead immortal operating in the Norse pantheon's home turf will expect an engagement sooner or later. He must suspect that Odin already knows he's here, so he would suspect that Odin would send some one after him and his. Which means we could be walking into ambushes. I was talking with Dr. Nora, and it seems our skillsets work much better in hit and run tactics rather than stand and fight. We also have an array of spell casters and we can create some distance if we need to retreat."

Turning to Jason and Rufus, Calvin says: "Let's first have a discussion now on how we want to fight when we get jumped. When we get attacked, does the tank get deployed and if then, who is driving the Behemoth to safety? Also, how long do the scouts on the hover bikes stay out? In my opinion they should retreat immediately."

Calvin waits for a response.

"We get jumped the tank will be too slow to deploy if its stored. it would need to prepped and put in place to drop as we travel. Not sure the behemoth has room for that or if we have the time to jury ring a a quick deploy option. We are better having it out and acting as point working with Scouts." When we get attacked, does the tank get deployed and if then, who is driving the Behemoth to safety? Also, how long do the scouts on the hover bikes stay out? In my opinion they should retreat immediately."
Thinking to the team's one contact with the nightwraith and the numbers he commanded, Jason thinks before responding. "The last time we ran across him, he has a literal horde with him. We are each talented in our own ways, but we are not an army. We cannot fight a force that large. Our goal isn't to deal with any forces that he has, but to deal with the nightwraith himself. As I see it, our first job is to locate his forces and make an Order of Battle Assessment. That means identifying the size, nature, and capabilities of his forces. This will let us determine the best way to avoid the army, if there is one, and possibly determine their goals. With that information, and information on the terrain, we can decide how to avoid any army and strike the nightwraith. " Working up an OPS plan brings back fond memories for Jason. He shakes off the reverie and continues. "As for the scouts, Each day at noon, I would like them to go to their maximum altitude and take pictures of the terrain as far as they can see. Depending on the altitude and how clear it is, that could be over a hundred miles. We will use that information to plot our route. Also, a large enemy force would be visible at long range. If the hoverbikes stay at altitude and keep their speed moderate, they will be hard to spot at range. " Jason pauses to make sure he hasn't lost them.

He continues, "I think the bikes should sweep ahead of the Behemoth 15 to 20 klicks. If they spot something, radio it in, but maintain their distance. If spotted, they should fall back, and take a roundabout way back to the Behemoth. That will give us time to prepare. If they spot a village, they can radio it in, then make contact. Villagers would know if something odd was happening in their immediate area." Jason stops and gets himself something to drink. His mouth always got dry when he was giving OPS plans.

Coming back to the table, has adds, "As for the Behemoth. What if we noted relative safe areas every 5 klicks or so into the autopilot system. Then, if we get hit, the autopilot can be programed to take the Behemoth back to the last point, while we deal with the attack. That gets the Behemoth out of the way without it being beyond our reach, and without it taking one of us out of the fight. When we get closer, I can try putting Bonaparte on the roof. Its less secure, but a lot faster to deploy from there. What do you think?"

Conditions:
- P.P.E.: 273/313 as of the start of this post
- Metamorphosis: Human: roughly 134 minutes remaining.

Rufus gives Cato one last pat on the shoulder. "Again, take care Uncle. It was good seeing you out here -- hopefully I'll have some pretty fantastic adventure stories next time I visit." He gives Lady Hall a grin. "It was nice meeting you too, ma'am. Have fun trying to keep up with him."

Rufus nods and walks along with the group on the way back to the Behemoth, his ears swiveling around like radar dishes to pick up all the conversations (or would be swiveling around like radar dishes if he wasn't currently disguised -- human ears don't behave like radar dishes all that much)...

"For something that looks like a brick on chicken legs, it's surprisingly fast..." Rufus chimes in. "I think we've actually gotten up to 40mph on open ground. But Carny's not gonna outrun much on the ground or in the air, no two ways about it."

An actual robot horse? Rufus' eyes start to gleam as the gears in his mind start turning at the thought of someone in the group having one while Rory jumps in with questions. I wonder what A.I. it uses? Does it have capacity to learn from experience, or does it rely on pre-installed software? Can it talk? He chuckles to himself at the thought of the saying "got it straight from the horse's mouth" taking on a whole new meaning. Would it be compatible with Carny? No, don't even suggest plugging it into the Behemoth's mainframe, that'd just be presumptuous -- and probably rude. Better keep that one to yourself for now, pup -- your mouth's caused enough trouble on this trip already.

"Fascinating," he finally says out loud. "Robotics and machine intelligences are two side interests of mine. I'd love to discuss Sterope with you further sometime later if that's okay -- I've heard of robot horses but never had the opportunity to see one up close."

But it's also good to keep a hand free for spellcasting gestures..." he holds up his hand and does a classic 'swish-and-flick' motion. With a shrug he adds, "What can I say? Sometimes the old tropes are best."

"Jessie? It's Rufus, do you read me? The client has instructions and we've added a new companion. We've headed back to the Behemoth -- meet us there when you're done, please. Rufus out."

He listens in as Jason outlines the plan and nods along. Sounds like practiced military. Also sounds sensible.

Calvin: Lore: Magic/General (Info about Blood Mages): Even with Calvin’s unique background, the very concept of Blood Mages is rare indeed. What little he may have gleaned from his divine parentage, amounts to little actual practical knowledge. They derive power from blood, and are the undisputed masters of blood whether it be theirs or others. Other than that, Calvin has no further info he can glean from his memories.
Lore: Demon/Monster (Where do blood mages come from?): Calvin has no idea, he’s never encountered one, and all memories of his father’s exploits as told to him, do not give an answer to the question.
Rufus: Sense Magic in Use: None sensed.
See Magic Energy: None Sensed
Radio: Basic (to call Jessie): See post.

Calvin wrote:"When you mean immortal, does this mean he lives forever but he can be killed, or is he like a demon, where he is resurrected in a different plane and he never really goes away, or do you mean like a vampire, where he is invulnerable to most types of attacks?"
Brom ponders the question. ”He likely would live forever for sure, and I’ve killed him dozens of times or so I thought, but he always appears later somewhere else manufacturing some manner of evil for his dark master. As far as I know he is not invulnerable to damage, just seems to not stay dead.” Brom says.
Calvin wrote:"Brom, do you think we need to stock up on silver weapons or are we gonna be fine on our current load out?"
”If you want. I’ve never noticed a particular need for them to fight his minions.” Brom says.
Calvin wrote:"What I do want to bring up is, since we are looking for a fight here, we should pick and choose how we are going to engage. Also, an undead immortal operating..."
”Immortal, not undead… at least not that I have noticed over the past eleven hundred years or so.” Brom says.
Jason wrote:"Who are the Northern Vigir? What kind of history do they have with the nightwraith? History as in friends or foes?"
”They are the gods of the Norse people. For good or ill, they lead the faithful of Asgard. I’m pretty sure a vast majority of them would find the Night Wraith a foe to be slain. Of the gods, I think only Odin really has a true issue with the Night Wraith, for slights a millennium past.” Brom answers.

The group continues to converse. The question of whether Jessie has a radio, brings memories of her on the Sea Templar telling the group that she has no skill with such devices, and doesn’t carry one with her.

The conversation moves to tactics, and the question of whether the team could park Bonapate on the roof of the Behemoth, which anyone knowledgeable of the vehicle can say for certain that it would not work, given a large part of the roof is an observation dome that likely wouldn’t hold the weight of the hover tank, plus the group really lacks materials to secure the hover tank up there during the journey.

While the group discusses tactics, Brom dozes off in the chair he’s sitting in, while Vlad prepares something for the next meal. A few hours pass, and Jessie returns, she doesn’t appear different than she did when she left a few hours ago.

”Meeting all done? What’s the next move?” Jessie asks.

What are your intentions
"All things age. All things die. In the end, our sun burns out. Our universe grows cold and perishes. But the Dark Dimension, it’s the place beyond time."

(On the matter of silver weapons)

”If you want. I’ve never noticed a particular need for them to fight his minions.” Brom says.

(Correcting Calvin)

”Immortal, not undead… at least not that I have noticed over the past eleven hundred years or so.” Brom says.

Calvin responds with gratitude:
"Thank you Brom for answering my questions."

There's not a whole lot to go on vis-a-vis blood mages... I guess we stay out of range of magic and try and engage at least 1000 feet away?

Jason wrote: "The last time we ran across him, he has a literal horde with him. "

"I think the bikes should sweep ahead of the Behemoth 15 to 20 klicks. If they spot something, radio it in, but maintain their distance. If spotted, they should fall back, and take a roundabout way back to the Behemoth. That will give us time to prepare. If they spot a village, they can radio it in, then make contact. Villagers would know if something odd was happening in their immediate area."

"As for the Behemoth. Calvin turns to Jason as Jason addresses some of the points Teres has made already.

Then he looks to Rufus as he speaks:
Rufus wrote: "Sounds good to me, boss..." he rubs his chin. "As for putting Bonaparte on the roof -- would there be any value in manning him up there in tank mode? Kinda like a turret? You could get a great view of the landscape and direct Carny over the radio... and should things go sideways you're already loaded up."

Calvin first turns to Jason and says:
"Well we don't really have anything to strap the tank to the top of the Behem... Carney. Since Bonaparte hovers, could we just push it out the back hatch doors or drop it through the loading hatch? It looks like it could survive the drop? We can do a quick test and see how long it takes for you to deploy the thing. If it's a minute or less, I think we can live with that."

"Per the horde you encountered when the Templars last dealt with the Nightwraith, could you describe what was part of the horde? Demons? Undead? Supernatural Monsters?"

Calvin turns to Rory and asks:
"Do you have any higher level area of effect spells that can slow down an angry horde?"

Calvin then stares at his feet upon the scouting question and says:
"Well, each hovercycle has a different altitude limit. Our prowler can reach heights as high as 700 feet, where as the speedster is around 120 feet. I think whoever is on the prowler should do much of the sweeping and the speedster rider to be the wing man and cover the other hovercycles retreat if anything happens. Then there is the issue of photography equipment. Do we have any? I don't remember packing anything like that... If we can't use photos, the scouting team will have to be vigilante in identifying terrain that Carney can't go through easily, along with other pertinent information."

"Who's on bikes to scout ahead? Does Rufus want to ride all the time on the speedster? Are we taking shifts on the prowler? Jason, your thoughts?"

Calvin waits for a response.

Rufus wrote:"Fascinating," he finally says out loud. "Robotics and machine intelligences are two side interests of mine. I'd love to discuss Sterope with you further sometime later if that's okay -- I've heard of robot horses but never had the opportunity to see one up close."
Nora gives each of those addressing her about her horse a patient smile and nods. "Sterope is quite interesting, I agree. Robotics aren't something I every really got my brain wrapped around. She acts pretty much like a regular horse, though, barring a few exceptions."

It doesn't take her long to gather up Sterope and fly her to the Behemoth, landing beside it and waving to anyone outside who is watching. "Mark everyone here down as friends, Sterope," she says casually as she dismounts and leads the mechanical pegasus into the Behemoth's loading bay, "Including the big robot, just in case."

"Of course, Lady Hall,, the horse responds quickly, folding in its wings and following the Cyber-Knight up the ramp. "If you trust them, I will too, so long as they don't bring you harm." Nora rolls her eyes and gives a click, getting the robot's ears to perk as she points to a clear section of the bay.

"This is home for you for now. I'll bring you out if I need to scout or fight, alright?"

"I will protect and aid you when you need me," the horse responds before silently standing where Nora was pointing, still only as a robot can be.

Lady Nora gives the others a sheepish grin. "Sorry. She's a bit of a stick in the mud around new people. She'll probably be watching you closely whenever you're in here until she actually trusts you."

Nora spends the hours waiting for Jessie exploring the Behemoth, familiarizing itself with its layout, and collecting the Plasma Ejector from storage (once she has permission and is show where it is/given the weapon), along with some clips for it. Her tour does pause the moment she sees the labs aboard, which she immediately and giddily inspects, grinning whenever she finds equipment she can use for any potential botanical studies. If asked what she thinks of the 'bot, she replies, "Pretty sure I could live here forever if I wanted to."

As for the conversations on tactics, Nora listens quietly as the team discuss, adding in simply, "With Sterope I can act as a scout if needed as well, though her max altitude is fairly low, a bit over a thousand feet." Otherwise she lets Jason assign her as he would any of the Templars.

When Jessie arrives, the doctor extricates herself from the labs in order to come and greet them. She gives a nod and a smile, introducing herself.

Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is a power that gives the psychic a precognitive flash of imminent danger to themself or somebody near them (within 90'). The character will not know what the danger is or where it will come from, nor who it will be directed at when in a group. All they know is that something life threatening will happen within the next 60 seconds! The Sixth Sense is triggered automatically, without the consent of the psychic, whenever their life is in great peril or the life of somebody they greatly care about (friend, partner, loved one, etc.). The Sixth Sense is only triggered by an unexpected, life threatening event (a trap or ambush is within 90' or a flash flood is rushing their way) which is already set into motion and will happen any second. The power can not be called upon at will to sense for traps or ambush. Instead, it works like an automatic reflex. If the character has used all their I.S.P. the Sixth Sense is temporarily rendered inoperative.
  • Range: 90'
  • Duration: Until the danger passes or happens. Bonuses apply only to the first round of the attack from the source of the sensed danger.

Rory screws her face up as she blinks a couple of times, then nods.

"Aye, I have a couple that I've used in the past. One that I used, oh, back when I first worked with the Templar. Causes the ground ta shake an' crack and blasts of flame and noxious gases come out of the cracks. Slows people right down, the gases affect breathing, and the blasts of flame can cook anyone outside armor if they are unlucky enough ta be caught. Slow ta cast, and drains a lot of energy, but useful. Affects a circle around one eighty ta two hundred feet across. Lasts a minute or so. Second one does less damage, but is bigger and lasts longer. Basically makes people tired and unmotivated. Affects an area about six hundred feet across, and lasts fer half an hour. Some people aren't affected, but it plays havoc with coordination."

She stops and thinks.

"I'm sure there was another one. Used it against bandits one time. Gimme a minute, I'll remember it soon."

She blinks and purses her lips, then switches to a bright smile.

"Yeah, there's another one. It's not so much a combat spell, but it works nicely, especially with groups that already have issues. It makes people get downright ornery and cantankerous. They get confused, disagree with each other, and it makes it real hard fer them ta work together on anything. Hits a circle around three hundred feet across, lasts fer about a quarter hour - way more time than we need in most situations. Again, pretty energy intensive."

She scratches her head.

"If I remember correctly, I made one scroll fer each of 'em, so I wouldn't exhaust meself next time I needed ta cast any of 'em. Otherwise I only have the energy reserves ta cast one of 'em, an' it'd take me a couple of days ta recover from that one spell. 'tweren't cheap, but I figure it'll be well worth it if we need ta let rip with one of 'em."

She beams with pride.

Might be best to use the robotic horse for photos. Its able to self pilot while the rider takes photos. Hovercycles not so much." Teres adds and thinks. and if it looks like a Valkyrie or one of Odin's they may avoid it.

"A sound strategy actually. if we can't carry it slung underneath with a quick release up top to shoot makes sense. We may need to move fast and a hover tank jumping off of the top is not a bad option. would look impressive and may surprise the attackers if it transformed in midair as it lands could put foes off guard for a moment. "I suggest you all do the same. We will need a battle plan eventually, until then we can get what need before we leave and get ready on the road. If anyone needs a primer on the Night wraith we can give you what know from the battle before and the old man there can provide some as well. Rufus and Jason were frontline so they will be the best sources. Bertrand K: Because if they are, there's no reason why Jason couldn't get in the tank via hover mode and drop off the back, as the tank can survive a 500 foot drop without issue according to the stats.

Consumer: Yes... it's how Bonaparte enters/exits. Those are the rear landing platform designed for hover bikes.

Jason thinks back to the battle. "It was both demons and undead. We had assistance, without it, we probably would have all been killed. And you're right, trying to mount Bonaparte on the roof was a dumb idea. We would have to have a reinforced platform on the roof, and design clamps to hold his feet. Forget I brought it up. Bonaparte can easily jump the distance from the rear hatch. "
Dr. Nora Daniels wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 1:42 pm As for the conversations on tactics, Nora listens quietly as the team discuss, adding in simply, "With Sterope I can act as a scout if needed as well, though her max altitude is fairly low, a bit over a thousand feet."
Jason chuckles a moment at the mental image. a flying robot horse, why not? "We can work with that. From 1000 feet, the horizon is about 63 klicks. That gives us the best viewing range. With a quick sweep, you could get a rough idea of the area out to 80 klicks from the Behemoth. With our ground speed, we would only need to send out the airborne scouts periodically, say every 45 minutes to an hour. That would catch any ground based threat before it reaches us. The Behemoth's radar would pick up any airborne threat at 160 klicks and ground based threats to about 16 klicks."

"Rufus, would you loan Nora your camera, so she can make a quick sweep of the are to the north? When she gets back, we can plan the route for tomorrow and have supper. "

Calvin ponders a bit, then proceeds to speak:

"Good to know. We did bring a lot of explosives and we have a lot of means to trigger demolition. Could come in handy if we can lure them into a fighting stage of our choice. Of the undead, was just it corpses? Did you fight any vampires or ghouls?"

Calvin goes and rummages around his memory per undead related magic and properties:

The ability to summon undead is often a necromantic ability. The invocation is available to normal spell casters, but it's rarely used as the minions are rather weak. A high level necromancer can control anywhere from 40-60 corpses at a time. The good news is that these corpses are vulnerable to fire and most fire related weapons or spells are particularly effective. Were the horde of undead mostly zombies or were there vampires and things like Magot as well?

The ability to summon demons is a shifter like power. Most of the time a shifter shouldn't be able to control more than a handful of demons though. That y'all fought a horde is particularly... frightening... A mage that can do both is somehow learned of both traditions, or they may have garnered one set of abilities either from pledging allegiances to the supernatural...

Calvin looks to Rufus and says: "Were you there for the last fight? Do you remember the kind of demons you encountered?"

Calvin looks to Jason, and then to Rufus for a response.
Jason wrote: "Rufus, would you loan Nora your camera, so she can make a quick sweep of the are to the north? When she gets back, we can plan the route for tomorrow and have supper. "
On that note, Calvin heads to the mess and proceeds to help out whatever way he could. Then he'll settle down to eat.

Nora nods, turning to Rufus with a smile. "Don't worry, I won't drop it," she says when passed the camera. She turns back to Jason. "I'll be back soon, though I'll likely take my time with the photos. Not my specialty, so I don't want to bring back a bunch of blurry messes." With that, she'll head to the storage area, giving Sterope a whistle, getting the robotic pegasus to perk up.

"Leaving so soon?" the horse questions, getting a chuckle from Nora. Regardless, the horse allows her rider to mount her, the pair making their way out of the Behemoth and, with a quick glance to determine north, take to the skies. While up there, Nora instructs Sterope to keep an even flight at 1,000 feet, so that she can take clean photos.

It also gives her some time to think. Jason seems well informed on how to scout and lead an expedition. I wonder if that was a specialty of his before he became a priest, or something everyone in his unit was trained in. She also mulls over the respective roles each member has in the group a bit more, trying to practice thinking tactically about how everyone could work together. Not being a trained tactician means her musing is limited, but it's a good way to pass the time as she lines up photos and picks out a few possible routes the group could take northwards, traveling in a lazy, 5-mile long arc to the north and back to get decent coverage of the lay of the land.

She also takes a few pictures of interesting plants, even if Earth-flora, when she gets the chance.

After however long it takes (at a half-hour to ensure decent pictures) for her to return, she will land, returning Sterope to the storage bay and returning the camera she borrowed to Rufus. She'll share the pictures with everyone, pointing out routes she found and helping with the planning.

The individual can survive in almost any environment. However, the character remains vulnerable to other external conditions such as heat, cold, and physical damage, and fatigues from exertion as normal.

Rufus' human-looking jaw drops as Nora flies in on Sterope and sets down on the ground next to the Behemoth. You didn't mention anything about having a FLYING robot horse... "Amazing," he finally manages to stammer out. "Between Carny, Sterope and Bonaparte, I think we've got the 'awesome robot' market nailed down."

Realizing Nora's told her horse to identify everyone as friendly, Rufus clears his throat. "Well if that's the case, you'll need to mark the real me as well." He snaps his fingers and cancels the metamorphosis spell, morphing him back into his true form. "Rufus of Houndstooth, proud member of Clan Longfang, authentic genuine kankoran spellcaster -- in the fur, in the flesh." He gives both Nora and Sterope a flourish and a bow. "I usually like to disguise myself when going into a town for the first time as some folks aren't too keen on D-bees. Had I known Uncle Cato was there with the two of you, I wouldn't have bothered." He shrugs. "Sorry if you were expecting another Wolfen -- but in all fairness, I did say I was adopted." He laughs as he turns to Sterope. "And an enormous pleasure to meet you, ma'am..." he gives her a nod. "I've never met a robotic horse before, let alone one that can fly. I'd like to chat with you for a while, after you've gotten settled in and are more comfortable with the rest of us." He holds up his hands and grins. "If you don't mind, that is."
Calvin_Wallace wrote: Fri Jun 20, 2025 10:18 am"Were you there for the last fight? Do you remember the kind of demons you encountered?"
"I was," Rufus nods. "Terrible, chaotic, and all-around gloriously epic in retrospect. The kind of battle bards like to write songs about and play in crowded taverns years later. The kind all of us would likely have not survived, had it not been for some unexpected berserker reinforcements arriving in the nick of time." He rubs his chin. "Brom didn't seem to know who they were or who summoned them, but they were fighting Bonecaster's army, so I'm not going to look a gift berserker in the mouth..." He chuckles. "As for what kind of demons... I remember seeing Alu hound demons, Shedim demons, and some manner of zombie-like undead. There could have been more, but visibility was crap."
Jessie wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 4:59 am”Meeting all done? What’s the next move?”
Rufus grins when Jessie arrives. "Yep, all done. Even got to meet with the All-Father..." And didn't look like we made a good impression with him either... "Sounds like Frittengern Bonecaster's up to no good in the northern reaches. Brom's been directed to investigate, and likely sanction with extreme prejudice. So that means us as well." Though something tells me you already know that. "How about you? Get what you needed done?"

Once she's closer, Rufus leans in and adds in a low voice. "Hey... I want to apologize about causing a scene earlier. I was excited about visiting Asgard. It may not be a big thing for you -- I mean, it's home, right? -- but it's my first time in the land of an actual pantheon. I got carried away at a time when I should have kept my mind on business instead of tourism. And I'm really, really sorry." He sighs. "Seems I'm apologizing a lot lately... and especially to you." He shrugs. "And I appreciate your not smacking me upside the head like I deserve."

He pauses. "Unless you really are about to smack me upside the head like I deserve... are you?" He chuckles, a bit nervously.

Rory pulls three scrolls from her backpack.

"Here's the scrolls I made while we had some time. One is Firequake - remember the spell I used last time we ran inta Bonecaster? It's a nice area effect spell, but doesn't work so well against demons. Well, it should disorient them and stuff, but I'm not sure the fire will do much ta them if Hell is a land of fire. Definitely does a nice job on undead though."

She shrugs.

"I''ve some experience with undead in the past, well, quite a bit, ta be honest, and fire works pretty well on them."

She looks at Jason.

"If we're facing an undead horde, casting this will probably be me first instinct."

She scratches her head.

"Against demons, I'll use Disharmonize." she says, holding up the second scroll. "I've heard demons don't like working with each other, so anything that causes them ta disagree and argue with each other should make them a bit less effective."

She puts the third scroll back in the backpack.

"Once I've used one or both of those, I'll switch ta me rune musket and just shoot at 'em. Unless there's something else ye want me ta do. I can run sensors and do basic comms - and I can speak Demogogian, if that's any use. Might be that understanding what they're bein' ordered ta do might come in handy."

She nods at Jason,

"Whatever ye need, boss, just let me know."

Premature Ragnarok: Prologue
Time and Weather wrote:Location: Asgard, Brukbarrow
Date: July 18th, 4:45 PM
Weather: Outside: High 40°, Low -3°; Clear skies, light winds..
Mission Notes
Nora, borrowing Rufus’ camera, takes to the sky. The day is relatively clear with light winds which does make the flight considerably easier. Once at the height chosen, near the max flight ceiling of her robotic pegasus. Nora begins her slow circle and takes photos of the horizon and anything that looks remotely interesting, which to be perfectly honest isn’t much. The town sits in a large open plain that runs thirty plus miles northward, it’s there that a vast forest springs up, and far beyond that mountains peek out over the horizon.

Meanwhile in the Behemoth, Rufus talks with Jessie, explaining what has happened since she left, as well as apologizing for his behavior. The Valkyrie smiles. ”Don’t worry about it. I was more worried you might tip off to unknown parties why we’re here. As for the Nightwraith, that is disconcerting.” She says, her voice showing concern at the new development.

”Yeah, I got what I needed done. So I’m good to go.” Jessie says.

The group is talking strategy and such as the two have their private conversation. A few minutes later, Nora returns with the pictures. From what anyone can tell, the way to the forest is clear. Once there, the resolution of the camera is only so good. It does appear there are some larger paths into the forest though. A basic route is there, the Templar only need to move forward now.

Let's have the air scouts cover the air till we get to the forest edge. Once we're there, we need to get scouts on the ground.

Looking at the pictures again, Calvin ponders a bit...

I guess we just take the biggest path into the forest and hope it doesn't die out? Aerial scouts as overwatch will be useless once Carney is under tree cover. We might then want to deploy the hovertank to cover our rear guard, and perhaps an additional scout on foot just inside the tree cover, maybe about 300 yards ahead of us just in case.

Gathering around the food, Calvin quickly eyes the spread. Thanking the cook and anyone else who helped prepared to meal, Calvin imbibes quickly, cleans up after himself quickly. Taking heed that Jason wants to leave in the morning, he ducks out just outside Carney, does a quick martial arts practice and heads back to his room. Unless he is on night sentry duty, he will check his equipment just one more time, and then lights out.

---

The next morning, Calvin wakes up just before dawn. He gets dressed and equipped, then carries his equipment bag to the co-pilot seat. Then he heads to the mess and makes himself a cup of coffee. Once everyone is ready to go, Calvin will check comms with whoever is on scout duty before they depart.

As they get underway, Calvin will work the sensor suite and keep the team apprised for anything interesting coming their way.

breakfast was straight forward and something better than her usual cooking of something simple and usually reheated or cold left overs. after some basics took to managing kit. due to flying she ensured and checked the kit and weapons were tied or clipped to her suit. She was keeping to herself for the most part like she did in the CS forces for prep the night before. It was part of the 7 P's (Proper planning and Preparation prevent P*ss Poor performance).

she considered a plasma weapon, but thought better of it. they would be better suited for defending the behemoth. besides Teres's soldiers instinct told her to take weapons she was familiar with. Few things it seemed most things were not electrical resistant and if they were she had other means to injure them so it would be bows and energy pistols. Once her kit was set up she packed it on the hover cycle for quick retrieval if she had to ditch.

"Barton here. going airborne she calls out as she lifts off. The psi-druid looks over the night prowler's kit she did last night and decides it should work. May have to adjust how I pack for flying. Some emergency supplies, Night vision goggles with batteries, Medkit, Toolkit, flares x4, food and water. Looks good This should be a good test. she ponders. once flying gets to 40 feet

Scout duty, Some things never change. She thinks as she flew ahead of the behemoth keeping an eye out for anything of interest. hmm need an emergency chute or flight system for the rider. perhaps get the mages to add a fly spell and a physical chute for back up. Something to ask Rory and Rufus about. this idea sounds like something they would have fun with. Teres thinks as she keeps her eye out for danger and other things that may be of use or indicate threats.

Instead of any gold or magic from old one eye I should parley for a house and a means to get to and from Asgard. It would be worth more to me than simple trinkets. there was a certain feel to this place. Better to stay focused on the job. the Druid thinks as she looks and grins.

Once Rufus finishes bringing Jesse up to speed. He speaks up.
"I'm glad you were able to finish so quickly. Since this is your home plane, I'd like your input on anything we need to be aware of. For tomorrow, we will start heading north, keeping to one of the widest paths through that forest. Are there any creatures or locals we should be on the lookout for? I don't want to inadvertently trespass onto someone's territory. Also, do you know of any groups in the north we should warn or who might be able to assist if we encounter a large force like the Nightwraith had before?" Jason listens carefully to anything Jesse has to add to work it into the OPS plan.

Now, who top send out first scouting. We need to get used to working with Doctor Nora. The hoverbike might have a 4 hour flight duration, but that's far too long for anyone to be in the saddle. With their speed, it makes no sense for them to stay in the air continually. The Behemoth maxes out at 64kph running. Through the forest we will probably do only 45 or so. No real point to have the scouts go out more than about 90 klicks.

Coming to a decision, Jason says, "Nora and Teres, I would like you two to take the first scouting run in the morning. The idea will be to sweep the area 45 degrees to either side of our course out to 90 kilometers. Note anything of interest; villages, groups of creatures or people, obstacles in our path, that sort of thing. You will be getting out of radio range periodically, so be extra cautious. Do not engage anything. If you see a threat, return to radio range immediately and report it, otherwise return after the sweep to report and get some rest. An hour after you get back, the next two scouts will go out. The scouts will trade off partners, so that everyone gets used to each other."

Not to self, we need some true long range radios for the scouts. Damn poor planning on my part. After dinner, Jason hangs around the lounge, smoking his evening cigar in case anyone wants to speak with him before heading to bed.

In the morning, Jason has breakfast with the others and checks to see if there are any last minute changes. If not, he shows Nora and Teres the proposed route for the morning on the photos. He sends them off with, "Stay safe, and watch each other's backs." He then heads to the cockpit and starts the Behemoth north.

If there are no objections, Jason will have Rufus and Jesse be the second group of scouts, then Calvin and Nora, etc.

Rufus wrote:Realizing Nora's told her horse to identify everyone as friendly, Rufus clears his throat.
At Rufus' transformation, Nora blinks, her earlier theory of him being Wolfen racing back to her after a moment. To be honest, I forgot that you were a D-Bee at all, she thinks to herself, choosing not to say that exactly out loud, instead saying, "Partial credit for being in the right neighborhood though, yes?" She giggles, and steps to the side as Rufus addresses her horse.

Sterope stares unblinking at the kankoran, the 'bot not registering the transformation verbally. Instead, the flash of magic got her to raise one of her foreclaws, the sharp metal scraping briefly against the floor of the Behemoth as she lowers it slowly. "My speech protocols allow me to speak with anyone who wishes, and those on Lady Hall's 'friendly' list have priority access. I will revoke that access, of course, should you prove to be a threat to Lady Hall." Permission granted?
Rufus wrote:Rufus nods as he hands over his camera. "Been taking pictures and notes since we got here; thought I'd get a coffee table book printed of our travels. But I'm nowhere near a trained photographer. Not gonna lie, some aerial landscape shots would be nice if you'd like to take a few."
When Nora returns from her scouting flight, and after she's distributed the photos in the meeting, she returns the camera to Rufus and the spare photos she took. "Did what I could, though I focused on the ground. Afraid I'm not a professional either." She gives the kankoran a small smile.

Dr. Nora nods once. Reasonable scouting. When you have fliers it makes things much easier than fighting the terrain. Shame I won't get to be on the ground long enough to look for interesting samples, though this place seems fairly bland in terms of flora and fauna. She doesn't give up hope of there being some interesting plant or creature for her to look into, though her dreams of an ancient Asgardian ruin have been long since dashed.

Realizing she's lost in thought, Nora focuses her gaze back on the Templars' leader. "Understood," she confirms with a grin.

After the strategy meeting, she holes herself up in the labs to finish her investigation of their contents, then retires to bed for the night.

The next morning, the Cyber-Knight gets up early, before the sun (or equivalent for this plane) has finished peeking over the horizon, for her daily meditation and exercises. Once finished, if she has time for breakfast she will partake quickly, and seek out Teres, speaking with the other woman to organize their scouting routes according to Jason's orders.
Teres wrote:"Barton here. going airborne,"
Once Teres is off the radio, Nora will call in herself, "This is Lady Hall, taking off as well, over." The 'over' is a touch belated, as she only recalls the standard of saying it after nearly clicking off her transponder. She will then follow her route (or routes, should nothing of significance occur to disrupt the schedule) to completion, giving brief reports on her returns.

Premature Ragnarok: Prologue

Mission Notes
The evening passes quickly and quietly. It seems everyone is racing the sun to get up, so as they awaken they find the Behemoth quiet, with even Vlad still asleep in his tiny cubby he’s decided to call home. One of the chairs in the lounge is occupied by a snoring Brom, who looks every day of his likely more than thousand years, a veritable ancient corpse that still somehow breathes.

A short while later Jessie awakens and she rouses Vlad to begin the day’s work.
Jason wrote:"I'm glad you were able to finish so quickly. Since this is your home plane, I'd like your input on anything we need to be aware of. I don't want to inadvertently trespass onto someone's territory. Also, do you know of any groups in the north we should warn or who might be able to assist if we encounter a large force like the Nightwraith had before?"
Jessie gives Jason a look. ”You’ve asked me such a question before, and I told you last time, I know little of the region we’re in. I rarely spent time here as I had tasks that took me away to your home plane more than anywhere else, because those in paradise do not need to be led here. My home is far to the east or far to the west. What is north or south is unknown to me. SO we’re all in the same boat not knowing once again.” Jessie says.

Vlad serves a simple breakfast of porridge and bacon, while Jason moves on to letting people know what he expects.
Jason wrote:"Nora and Teres, I would like you two to take the first scouting run in the morning. The idea will be to sweep the area 45 degrees to either side of our course out to 90 kilometers. It’s here that Nora and Teres head out into the cold morning. While the pairs take off is unnoteworthy, their flights are riddled with issues. It’s here that the Behemoth starts its slow trek north, plodding across the heath, heather and wild wheat that makes up a good deal of the ground cover of this plain. Scraggly but hardy trees and small copses of bushes dot the plain, with the occasional stone jutting through the earth like a tooth of some forgotten beast. Some of these stones are carved with worn runes who’s message is lost to time.

In the air, Nora quickly loses track of the behemoth and is mildly confused when the terrain doesn’t seem to match what she looked at the afternoon prior. It seems the plain stretches on for far longer than it should. (Failed Nav roll ~Consumer)

Teres on the other hand spots a few things moving among the tall grasses, herds of deer near clusters of bushes. A group of travelers moving towards Brukburrow from the west, several carts pulled by oxen. Teres’ keen eyes even spot what she can only assume are either hunters or just lone travelers, who seem to stop to watch her fly by.

Inside the Behemoth, Jason, Calvin, and Rufus fill up the Cockpit. The going is boring, but the idea of running the Behemoth at full speed is not optimal. The sensor board is quiet, with little to no activity that Calvin doesn’t already know about, he does notice that Nora is basically heading in the wrong direction, moving due east instead of north. Rufus on the comm, hears nothing going on.

Teres makes it over the forest and is shocked at the enormity of the trees, these aren’t gentle giants they are towering monoliths to nature. A combination of massive evergreens and equally massive deciduous trees and other coniferous trees. Her view of the ground below is almost instantly swallowed, unless she makes an effort to follow one of the gaps, which only go so far into the tree line. It’s also here that the ground beneath seems to rise a bit from relatively flat plans and gentle rolling hills to more pronounced inclines and steep ridges hidden beneath the dense tree cover. If there are creatures beneath it, is near impossible to spot them.

Nora finally realizes she’s been going the wrong way for a bit, and finally makes a course correction to theoretically go north west to get back on track.

At near the maximum distance Jason prescribed, Teres notices some smoke softly curling from beneath the canopy, not the smoke of a conflagration, or even a singular camp fire, It appears that a few miles distant from her position that there is a village of some sort nestled beneath the leaves.

Both scouts are making their return when the Behemoth hits the forest’s edge.Without direct control, Carny slows even further as the Behemoth slowly makes its way into the trees (No piloting roll ~Consumer). Calvin notices that the radar suddenly becomes foul with returns as the forest bogs it up, and Rufus still doesn’t hear anything on the radio. Nora and Teres make to land back on the Behemoth, which is harrowing given they have to dodge the dense growth, but both manage to get grounded before the Behemoth gets completely enveloped by the primeval forest.

What are your intentions

Where the hell is Dr. Nora going?... Maybe she'll fix her course later, or she's checking something out...

Just as he was about to wave down Rufus to send a message, he takes a deep breath as Nora changes course.

Welp that fixed itself...

Breathing a little easier, they continue on course for about two hours before arriving at the forest's edge.
Consumer wrote: Both scouts are making their return when the Behemoth hits the forest’s edge.Without direct control, Carny slows even further as the Behemoth slowly makes its way into the trees (No piloting roll ~Consumer). Announcing to Rufus, Calvin says:

"Radar is not gonna cut it in this forest. Let's see what else we have on the sensors..."

Calvin powers down the radar and switches to thermal sensors. It's around 30 odd degrees Fahrenheit outside. Thermals should make things pop nicely...

Calvin first turns on the four multi camera systems on the sensor console. (Read Sensory Equipment: 1d100 < 38%: [14] = 14 )
He then turns on the thermal Imager system. (Read Sensory Equipment: 1d100 < 38%: [14] = 14 )
Last but not least, he turns on the infra red optics. (Read Sensory Equipment: 1d100 < 38%: [24] = 24 )

I'll leave the search light and the radar off for now.

At this juncture, Calvin takes in the surroundings on the view screens and the hud when he notices both Teres and Dr. Nora have made landing.

I don't love this terrain and the overall lack of visibility. Should the hover tank be deployed to cover our rear?
(The question was asked if it was a polite suggestion.)

I think if Jason goes on the tank, Rufus should drive. Carney didn't seem to care nearly as much what branch or truck she takes off when following verbal instructions. I think some care would need to be involved going forward."

Calvin says to everyone in the cockpit:
"Let's hear from the scouts and then decide on what we're gonna do next?"

Without further ado, Calvin walks back to the lounge area and waits for the scouts to arrive.
Calvin's sheet.

As Teres soaks in the terrain she can almost feel the energy and the aura from the plants. plants this size would need magical support or a very large water supply. Lakes, rainfall and other condensation could be a source. not unlike deserts that absorb all the water they can during the rare or occasional rainfalls. for tree this large the water an nutrient requirements should be massive.

I know I like plains and light to moderate forest, but this kind of forest I could get used to. I wonder if I planted one of these giant trees on earth would get this large? Another good question is do the local animals get equally large? Do you think the rats in this place are gigantic too? ooh, could get giant bees and start a honey business. hmm. We need to get plant samples and check out the local wildlife. and possibly avoid ticking off ants. Though a pet giant spider sounds fun. I would name it 'Webster'. she says over the radio to no one in particular. Once done her scouting run she flies back to the Behemoth to make a full report checking that Nora is alright. but those thoughts are quickly interrupted.

Swear if I survive this adventure I will get Military parachuting and glider training to safely climb those giant trees. the Psi druid thinks

back at the behemoth:
I did see very large evergreens, deciduous trees and other coniferous trees. I would recommend caution around giant trees. pinecones from massive trees and other elements from it could be dangerous for us humanoids to get hit by if they are that big. she says quietly hoping they were. In all likely hood they were not.

"I also spotted herds of deer near clusters of bushes. A group of travelers moving towards Brukburrow from the west, several carts being pulled by oxen. looks like there are hunters or just lone travelers. also saw smoke going up in a spot a few miles or so out that way. Not a single campfire or forest fire from what I saw. Might be a good place to get info on who passed through or is a local menace to avoid or could be Nightwraith's camp. There are rises on the flat areas that were not fully visible. That smoke is a sign of people. Should we get a closer look at it, boss?" she states taking a seat if one is open.

(Rolls Held Over)

(OOC: Please excuse any semblance of over reach, I just want to get this moving the right way before posting deadline tomorrow)

Calvin takes the scouting report of Teres in.
Teres wrote: I did see very large evergreens, deciduous trees and other coniferous trees. I would recommend caution around giant trees. pinecones from massive trees and other elements from it could be dangerous for us humanoids to get hit by if they are that big.

Calvin first asks Teres:

"Teres, you don't think it's a single camp fire but more like a settlement? Did you catch some of the terrain under the tree line from your vantage point? Does it get less flat as we get deeper in the forest?"

Calvin then turns to the group:

Calvin says first to Jason:
"Boss, let's deploy the hovertank and have it cover Carney's rear. That way the tank can cover Carney's retreat. It will take a large mass off of Carney's cargo hold and she will be more manoeuvrable in more aggressive terrain. Further more, mini missiles are not the choice of weapons in this terrain. Miss and we could start a fire."

Calvin turns to Rufus:
"I don't have much experience driving robots of this size and Carney seems to be really slow in the trees. With a better pilot, we could keep the pace up and still not risk spooking whatever is living in these trees anymore than we have to. I think you should take the reins here."

Calvin says to the group:
"As the resident monkey, I should probably take overwatch in the forest area. If Rufus can cast the Fly as an Eagle spell on me, that should mitigate against me falling if I miss a hold or misjudge a landing. With the trees this dense, I think I can jump from tree to tree pretty easily and should be able to see well just under the tree cover."

Calvin turns to Rory:
"Do you have sensory equipment training? The sensors are already configured for the current terrain, just keep abreast of the read outs from the camera and infra red scopes. They should tell you if anything is coming up on visual range."

Calvin turns to Prudence:
"Do you mind looking after the radio for us?"

Calvin turns to Teres and Dr. Nora.
"You two should take point. You could keep Rufus abreast on how the terrain changes and also provide each other support if a retreat is necessary. Since Teres saw where the settlement could be, she should be out front leading the convoy. If you stay 500 yards or so ahead, that should be an ample buffer."

Calvin waits for a response.

Perception: 1d100<86: [28*] = 1
JIC: 1d20: [2] = 2 / 1d100: [37] = 37

Conditions:
- Sustain: 7 days remaining at the start of this post
Sustain allows the recipient of this enchantment to go for days without food, water, or breathable air! The magic keeps their energy level up and removes the need for any outside source of these things. In addition, the recipient only needs two hours sleep per night for the duration of the magic. The individual can survive in almost any environment. However, the character remains vulnerable to other external conditions such as heat, cold, and physical damage, and fatigues from exertion as normal. This spell is a must for serious explorers and dimensional travelers.

Skills:
- Sense Magic in Use: Up to 900’ (274.3 m) away.
- See Magic Energy. Range: 1,000' (305 m)
- Pilot Tanks & APCs 1d100<58: [68] = 0
(it's the closest skill he has to a robot pilot skill, but if he's just telling Carny stuff like "go right," "go left," "go around that tree" I'm hoping it'll at least help a little bit. Better than nothing, anyway...)

- Pilot Tanks & APCs 1d100<58: [14*] = 1 (2nd attempt if allowed, otherwise use JIC roll puh-leeze...)
- Astronomy & Navigation 1d100<87: [24*] = 1 ("WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!")

"Understood," Rufus nods. "I promise I'll do my best to avoid such tipping in the future."

Rufus almost dozes off a couple times during the first stage of the trip. Not because he's tired -- the sustenance spell was still in effect and he had gotten in his couple hours of sleep plus plenty of meditation time to recharge his magical batteries -- but rather because of sheer boredom. As Carny nears the edge of the great forest, however, his interest starts piquing. Whelp, so much for wide open plains... he thinks to himself.

Rufus nods. "Done." He makes a gesture and mutters an incantation. "ইগল হিসাবে উড়ে আসা. Congratulations -- for the next three hours you are once again a creature of the air." He grins. "Just make sure you're not up in the air when the timer expires." ((-25 P.P.E.))

If Jason dismounts in Bonaparte, Rufus slides into the driver's seat. "Alright Carny, let's just go slow and easy. I'll do my best to walk you around the worst parts." Okay... yeah... he grunts to himself. The AI is doing the actual piloting, I've just got to tell him which way to go. Can't be any worse than driving the APC. Right?

He calls out to the scouts (over the radio if need be) "Teres, Nora, did either of you see anything resembling a less densely-wooded path through these woods? Something that might make our way through less of a headache?"

If either of them saw anything along those lines, he'll try to steer Carny in that direction. If not he'll do the best he can directing Carny through the largest gaps he can see.

"It was under the canopy and a few miles out. It is likely a village." she answers.
Rufus wrote: "Teres, Nora, did either of you see anything resembling a less densely-wooded path through these woods? Something that might make our way through less of a headache?"
There is road traffic. So roads and trails could be a possibility. I would not count on as many large trails that fit Carny as we would like. not many Behemoths around here." Teres replied.

"We can try I suppose some the terrain here is larger then Earth and changes far more drastically." she responds, "provided Nora is fine with the plan."

Would be nice to have local to assist but its not like the locals at the village travel a lot. she thinks adjusting the quiver on her back a bit.

Premature Ragnarok: Prologue

Mission Notes
With the group gathered in the lounge, a small mostly one sided meeting happens, with Teres telling what she noticed on her flight, through casual observation. Calvin lays down a plan, and other than Rufus making a note that he doesn’t actually know how to pilot the Behemoth, is generally agreed to. Calvin receives a flight spell, while Jason moves to disembark Bonaparte from the rear landing deck.

The travel forward is slow going, as Carny slowly picks its way through the primeval forest. Calvin finds that while he can leap from tree to tree, it’s not as easy to maneuver the right way when some of the trunks he has to circumnavigate are twenty feet across and covered in hundreds of branches. The variation of trees is odd compared to earth forests, more the sheer variety versus the fact that all three tree types exist in the same forest. The canopy seems to hold an average height of a little over sixty feet from the forest floor, which is thick in loam, leafy decay and other such plants that thrive in dark environments. The terrain continuously seems to change in elevation, with ridges and ravines riddling the area. Occasionally there is an opening to the sky above, usually due to a particularly wide and steep ravine. If there are animals, they seem to give the Behemoth a rather wide berth, possibly mistaking it for some manner of giant, or at the very least a large predator. The travel is complicated by the fact that Teres only saw the signs of the village from above, and navigating beneath the canopy is showing its own difficulties.

Meanwhile aboard the Behemoth, Brom naps in a comfy chair, while Jessie stands in the doorway of the cockpit looking out the main viewscreen. Vlad continues the endless task of housekeeping. Kelly has spent the entire time in her bunk, dealing with some sort of malady, While Rory sits in the comms seat and watches the dials. Carny not really having a voice beeps occasionally when the terrain seems difficult, which leaves Rufus to seek out another route.

Mild difficulties aside, a few hours later, Calvin finally spys a small village in the gloom of the dark forest floor. A dozen wooden building surrounded by a wall of timber, likely to keep out predators. The folk that he can see outside their abodes seem aware something big is moving in the forest, but don’t seem to have set up any defenses at the moment, as they continue to cautiously go about their daily tasks..

Rory emerges from her room with her kit on when the Behemoth slows down, and makes her way to where Jason and Calvin are.
She has her backpack slung over her shoulder, with the vibroaxe inside. She looks at jason and shrugs.

"If I'm doin' anything inside, havin' an axe at me side just gets in the way. Better it be in there, but clsoe enough ta get to when I need 'er."

Rory nods.

"Aye, that I can. I'm nae an expert, mind, but I can run the sensors, and radio ye if I spot anything."

She giggles and drops her eyes.

"Oh man, this brings back memories."

She lifts her eyes again and addresses Jason.

"Last time I were operating sensors on a mission was when we were travelling from, well, me home, ta where I were hoping ta find blueprints fer a flying machine they built back before civilization fell. We got jumped by CS forces, and crashed. Let's hope that don't happen again. Given that this vehicle don't fly, I figure I'm pretty safe from that one, at least."

She makes her way to the sensor station and, after making sure nobody has a problem with it, makes herself at home, carefully stashing her backpack where she can grab it in an emergency. She runs a preliminary scan to familiarize herself with the systems, and checks the communications system to confirm she knows the operating protocols.

"Ready."

Rory.

Nora is generally quiet during the meeting, clearly a touch embarrassed at her less than stellar scouting abilities, though she goes along with what's suggested, though the slow going makes scouting a repetitive task, and she doesn't return with much new information.

Once the small village is in view, Nora smiles. Finally, something other than forest. Even I can't study the same trees over and over again without getting bored. As if the doctor hadn't surreptitiously gathered samples anyways, spending a fair amount of time adjusting things in one of the labs to better suit her tastes.

But now, she gets herself ready for an excursion, giving her armor a quick polish, making sure everything is in order, and telling Sterope to stay on the Behemoth for the time being. Once she's done a bit of prep, rather than going overboard she finds Jason if a meeting isn't called. "Should we go and greet the locals? They could have more information on what's going on, narrow our search a little. If not, it's at least a break from travel."

Calvin reports his findings back on radio:
"I see a settlement! It's about 50 yards or so away. There are about a dozen wooden buildings surrounded by a wooden wall. The wall is about 12-15 feet tall that seems to be used to keep out predators. I see a gate but it's closed. The locals seem to be aware that something is big is tracking through the forest, but they aren't acting too spooked. They haven't ran to their weapons yet, but they seem to be a bit more cautious."

"Based on the noise of her movements, I am currently at your X O'Clock. I tried to stay about 500 yards away. I'm gonna just do some rudimentary observations around the settlement and will report back my findings. You guys figure out what to do next and let me know."

Calvin turns on a few charms to stay out of sight. Staying in the shadows, he turns on Invisibility Simple and then keeps a low profile (Prowl: 1d100 < 63%: [8] = 8 ). Then he starts to inspect the settlement a bit more carefully, looking for evidence of past patrols and places of ambush.

(Tracking: Human 1d100 < 63%: [34] = 34 )

He then waits on the open channel and hopes to hear a response from the rest of his team.
