Pertinax watches the radar with continued irritation; he would like to see fewer bogeys. Until then he can only maneuver the Rogue as gracefully possible. And the word graceful is being used very loosely in this context. He has flown some unweildly vehicles in his time in the Tarlok military (native tarlok engineering has all the grace and innovation one would expect from a species that prizes brute strength over everything else), but even by those standards the Rogue is especially cumbersome. And without any explanation, the ship has lost half its auto-defense cannons. He slams the It is as if this accursed ship wants to kill you one way or another - monstrous ghosts or enemy rockets. Pertinax is enjoying all of it.

He slows the ship down and puts it in a gentle curve hoping to let the remaining fighters pass over and exposed to a broadside from Yates.
And then Pertinax sees Trorrie at the other gun station. "Hrm." He lets out a terse grunt as he resets the two disabled auto-guns. It is as much as he will acknowledge making herself useful.

He corrects the ship's course and powers up the thrusters. As the ship starts to drift back he checks on Mungo. "Are you almost done with the collision cannon? Other systems are malfunctioning."

Bryke finds himself and the Ghost in non-space, outside the realms of physics or logic. Outside the view screens a kaleidoscope of shapes and colors. The Ghost at the moment is dead in the water, no power to any systems.
Where am.. there is no thing here- could there be life.. The Promethean speculates, mulling over phase, quantum, temporal, and astro-mechanics mentally.

Fascinated with where he "isn't" but also very concerned by this situation, begins continuity checks to determine the obstruction to the ships power.

Ok, the circuit from This One to power cells and phase generators, begins at the controls...

While touching components he can see, he interfaces with them telemechanically.

All third dimensionally created things take inspiration from creation- one reason why there is 'nothing new under the sun' and therefore, the systems that give "life" to The Ghost - Bryke entreats them as a telemechanic in like manner that a holistic doctor would the systems of a living body.

For example; A body lies instantly lifeless on an operating table. The doctor in viewing, looks briefly at possible external injury, taking quick note of superficial damage and addressing things more severe. The Doctor would hypothesize based on education of organic systems, why does this body have "no power?" What is "power" to this particular body? In humans it is electro-chemical, blood and water, electrical transmission.
OOC Comments
Miraculous really.
Which organs generate these processes? Is the heart pumping, are the lungs filtering, are the brain and nervous system making electro-chemical exchanges, etc. The complete or Hollistic Doctor goes even further.
What starts/quickens the system in general? What tells the heart to pump, the brain to think and do its function, what is the thing that gives a body the go ahead to animate but then one day ceases giving that instruction?
OOC Comments
Interestingly these Doctors get labeled as "alternative", or worse quacks, frauds, fakes, or conspirators yet these are often the ONLY people facilitating "healing" to causes of malfunction in the body and when a regular trained Doctor begins "healing" their patients using things outside of synthetics- they too get labeled "alternative"- humor me, if a mechanic fixes a machine better but differently than a way "the book" says to, are they an "alternative.." mechanic or...? If an electrician... ??
In a car or spaceship it is the turn of a key, push of a button, voice command, aka a spark or connecting of terminals, closing of circuits. This is why The Promethean begins his diagnostics at the console and will trace the signal telemechanically, physically, and telekinetically to the source(s) of "animation" in a phase capable space vessel.

...............................
Contingencies:
If a space walk is needed, first and foremost Bryke will make sure his environmental suit is sealed and the HUD on his helmet is fully functional via Telemechanics. Once that is varified, he will do a series of tests by jettisoning inorganic materials, organic sealed inside inorganic materials, organic inside unsealed materials, organic materials, etc.

He will find a way to tether himself to the ship, and do so before stepping out and then during.
Before stepping out, he will set controls manually to "idle" or whatever the equivalent is to "neutral" or better "park" on a spaceship.

Lastly, before connecting power to the engines (especially if he is outside the ship) he will make sure to have,

A. a firm grip on the hull of the ship somewhere and touching the ship with every other limb
B. Then after that use the free limb/manipulator (gloved hand, boot, helmet) to close any circuit(s), connector any wires, insert or remove a component, or kick or hammer anything into place, etc. (thereby grounding himself, and hopefully phasing along with the ship if it was stuck in "return mode" as soon as power turns on)

Phased bodies: Prometheans are in a permanent state of “phase.” Damage from any M.D. source becomes S.D.C. and any damage from an S.D.C. source is halved.
Phased Teleportation: Prometheans can “step out of phase” and travel at incredible speeds in an intangible state. Concentration takes one melee round and is the only action that can be performed during that round. Range: One mile per level of experience. Chance of Success: 50% +4%/lvl| 83%

Glitch spends another two hours attempting to find how to contact the Meijer Consortium, but nothing he tries seems to come up with a single piece of usable information. It’s almost as if the cyber based criminals are vexing him personally. With nothing to show for it, Glitch leaves and finds himself back at the spot between the shipping containers. With some effort Glitch is able to break the security encryption once more, but is certain that in a short while he will lose it once again as it changes its protocols once more. Over the radio he hears nothing of interest, just the same checks he’s heard before.

What are your Intentions?

The combat contiues to be wantonly chaotic as Pertinax attempts to perform acrobatic flying with a over-engined, over-gunned brick. Mungo frantically tries to fix at least the alarm, while Yates and Trorrie fire lasers and railgun rounds. The point defense guns seem to be doing a bang up job of keeping at least the short ranged missiles from hitting, but Pertinax is struggling to dodge both the ever growing debris field, the asteroids, and the incoming laser fire, as the Rogue is hit a few more times, bringing the force field ever closer to critical. Yates manages to take down one more fighter, While Trorie hits a few shots on the Tug’s force field. It seems the fight is still being rather one-sided, and it also appears that the slaver/pirates know this, they turn tail and micro jump out of the area, leaving the Rogue alone in space. Mungo is finally able to get the alarm shut off, while the inertial dampeners seem to correct themselves somehow.

Mungo pauses and listens. His body waiting intently for the next wave of inertia that it would be forced to react, with effortless poise and grace, to any moment now. That's one of the benefits of being an Octoman. Not a lot of people know that. Not a lot of mass spread out across a - mostly empty - head and eight limbs make it easier to deal with being thrown around inside a ship under attack! Let's not forget that each of the 8 legs has suction cups, like sooooo many suction cuuuuuuuuups! So so many... hmmm, maybe too many? Mungo thinks to himself as he begins to relax. He lets out a deep breath and opens up his comms.

"Is this what victory feels like?" He asks over the team channel, putting on his best 'serious' voice.

He straightens himself out and starts working on getting the ship's systems back to normal.

"Oh, I get it now... Now, I know why I always liked you. You're tough as shit!" He tells the ship as he goes off to get his tools. Mungo will spend his time repairing the ship as needed.

The ship shudders as it passes debris with utter abandon. Pertinax doesn't attempt any evasive maneuvers, instead relying on the auto-cannons and just veering around what he can.On a positive note, this means more of them are dead.

Even more satisfying is the sight of the tug retreating. You do not need them dead. Only gone.

"No," Pertinax replies on the team band. "Victory is absolute submission. One second."

He switches to the band he used to communicate with the pirates earlier: "You were warned. You are not welcome in this star system anymore. If you return, we will hunt you; we will kill you. I repeat, never return to this star system, or you will die." That feels more like victory.

"Shall we head back to the planet?" Pertinax asks on the team band. He checks the radar for the Ghost and then adds, "Bryke, please return to the hangar."

Once the Ghost has docked back on the Rogue, Pertinax will set the coordinates to return to Dextros III.

Glitch takes some time to leave a message inside the local intranet, in what he hopes is a contact with the Meijer Consortium. Whether it plays out or not, only time will tell. Glitch now fully ensconced in his spot continues the tedious watching of the two ships, believed to be owned by a higher ranking meber of the Love Syndicate

Glitch is mildly distracted when the Rogue reappears and sets down on the landing pad it was on before.

In the nothingness of wherever the Ghost jumped, Bryke attempts to discern what the issue is, so that he can return to his own place of existence. Bryke is quick to notice that the Phase Technology built into the Ghost doesn’t seem to come up when he links his mind to the machine, but this is known to him, a security feature put in by Promethean’s much more powerful than he. So Bryke has to focus on what he can see, and it doesn’t make sense even then. It seems to take hours, maybe even days for Bryke to pull open panels and trace electricals hoping to find an answer, hope dwindles as time continues to pass it seems, or is it passing, Bryke can’t tell in this non-space place he is.

Finally after what seems forever, Bryke thinks he found the culprit, a line junction disconnected from a peculiar device that his Telemechanics have no info on. Bryke reconnects it and for a brief nauseating moment something happens, The Ghost reappears in real space. It takes Bryke a few moments to see that whatever happened in the battle, it is now over with space debris floating about. The Rogue slowly moves nearby relatively. Just as Bryke is prepared to take the controls of the Ghost, a pop fizz sound can be heard and the Ghost dies once more, leaving it now dead in realspace at least.

Meanwhile onboard the Rogue, the team is making sense of their victory, as hollow as it seems. Pertinax sends a radio message towards the fleeing tug, whether that got it is suspect, given that they jumped to FTL to flee. Mungo takes a few minutes to run some diagnostics, and is able to get the point defense guns back on line, while Trorrie notes what she learned by trial and error, emphasis on the error. Pertinax seeing the Ghost appear back on the sensors, and radios Bryke to come back, but doesn’t get a response. It appears the Ghost is dead in the water. Once the Rogue is closer, communication via personal radios is possible, and the situation is confirmed. It takes some effort, some messing with the Rogue’s gravity generator, and a bit of brute force effort by Bryke on the outside of the ship, but the Ghost is finally stowed away.

With nothing left to do, the Rogues make their way back to Dextros II and the Misandri Valley Mining Facility.

The Rogue has little difficulty making its way back to the mining facility, getting permission to land and set down on the pad they were at before. If anything has changed at the facility, it’s unknowable to the team at the time.

Bryke? The little ship that disappeared? It shown up again? She thinks at the sound of Bryke, and the the craft he disappeared in, coming back into view and on the screens.

He's dead? She then thinks upon finding out the Ghost is basically currently a dead weight in space and can only wonder for a moment. The little vessel is dead but not Bryke?

"Cala- Mungo." Trorrie catches herself as she turns her attention away from getting Bryke out of space and gives some of it to Mungo, whom she saw clearly knows anything on the topic she needs to know. "Could you show me some of the standard means of repairing the ship?"

When she does see the Promethean again she asks him, "What happened?"

When not being tutored by the sentient cephalopod, Trorrie sits in the lounge and reads, moving to be closer to the sound of voices should she finds herself by herself there.

Now that Karthac Brooson has fled the start system, and his pirate henchmen are dead, Pertinax sets a course for Dextros III. All things considered, he is quite pleased with himself. Another successful mission. Your target has been properly scared out of the Love Syndicate's territory. And did so without any excessive or unnecessary violence. Sure, the Rogue's collision cannon has hobbled the ship, but he still manages to get it back to the Misandri Valley with little difficulty.

After getting the Rogue docked, Pertinax sees if he can download the ship's records from the battle, proof that the mission was accomplished. Then he heads off the ship. If anyone asks where he is going, he says, "I need to report back to the madam at the Velvet Glove about our mission. I will return with payment and intel."

If anyone offers to accompany him, he brushes them off coldly: "It would be better if I went alone. No need to draw more attention on us by showing up in force."

He heads back to the brothel with his hood up and his head down. He activates his telepathy (-4 I.S.P.) to scan the people around him in case anyone is in fact following him. At the entrance of the Velvet Glove, he hands over his weapons, saying, "I need to speak with your boss."

If they insist that he pays the entrance fee, he begrudgingly pulls out his UTC card and transfers the credits. Their boss better compensate you for this.

He sits at the bar and waits for the madam, if she's not seated their already. He orders a small lager and nurses it for a moment, waiting for the madam to speak first. When she asks him how things went he lets out a cruel sneer.

"Karthac Brooson has been given ample warning that he is no longer welcome in this start system. His allies are dead, his fighters are space flotsam, and he has fled." If the madam sounds skeptical, he shows her the flight logs on his HPC. "It was not an elegant fight," he admits as she reviews the data, "but you can see that we sent a clear and powerful message. Now about payment."

Glitch observes the Rogue as it descends, then observes the others on the docks to see if they react to the Rogue in anything beyond a passing look. Observation: Spontaneous reaction is a known organic weakness. The need to look and know what made a sound is strong for them. A new ship arriving, something any organic might look at once if nothing more than to see if they recognize the ship. Then, if their eyes linger, or their movements shift, they give themselves away. Glitch records internally, rapidly scanning any movement from bystanders on the dock.

Glitch will give the Rogue some time after landing before he exfils from his perch and makes his way back to the Rogue. Glitch observes any visible on the Ghost with mild discontent as the intelligence boards the ship. Observation: It would seem the Ghost was impacted several times. Did they fly it into a meteor storm? Glitch considers, trying to understand organic logic. Glitch will observe Pertinax disembark and head back towards his new fixer as the intelligence boards the Rogue.

"Was your mission a success?" Glitch will ask any remaining members onboard the Rogue.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

With the Rogue grounded, Mungo makes his way to the overcrowded Cargo Bay and moves to look at the Ghost. Trorrie follows along.
Trorrie wrote:"Cala- Mungo... Could you show me some of the standard means of repairing the ship?"
Mungo is already clambering upon the hull of the smaller converted fighter turned shuttle. ”You got a few years for an apprenticeship, under the tutelage of someone who would whip you with a Neural Whip if you did anything wrong?” Mungo says, his voice surprisingly cheery. ”What I know of starship mechanics is hard earned, and when the last fellow thought he could bypass hard work with psionics went off the deep end, I was there to fix it that time too.” Mungo says, in a sort of sing song voice. ”Bryke, what the heck my dude… you’re supposed to dodge the asteroids.” Mungo says as he crawls inside to see if he can figure out what is wrong.

Pertinax downloads the flight logs and gun cam footage, grimacing at what he sees, before preparing to leave the Rogue, stopping in the Cargo bay he finds Mungo, Bryke, and Trorrie looking at the Ghost.
Pertinax wrote:"I need to report back to the madam at the Velvet Glove about our mission. I will return with payment and intel."
”Have fun, bring me back something nice.” Mungo says as he looks at a trail of wires from an exposed panel.

With no one saying anything about him leaving, Pertinax departs the ship for the Red Light District. A short while later Glitch sort of appears back on ship, no one noticing his actual arrival.

Glitch wrote:"Was your mission a success?"
”More or less. Target fucked off to parts unknown, which was all the employer wanted. Bryke tried to play kissy face with an asteroid and now the Ghost is jacked.” Mungo says, his voice still very chipper for whatever reason.

Meanwhile Pertinax makes his way into the Red Light District and heads directly to the Velvet Glove. At the door one of the well dressed bouncers looks at the Tarlok.
Pertinax wrote:"I need to speak with your boss."
The doorman puts a finger to his ear. ”The mercenary is back… Yes ma’am.” The doorman says over his earbud. ”Please go ahead, she’s in the lounge.” The doorman says, opening the door for Pertinax. Pertinax notices several guests being ushered out of the lounge to places deeper in the brothel, sitting at the bar, sipping something from a crystalline glass. ”That was fast, I do love efficient people.” She says, her voice smooth like honey. She gestures for Pertinax to take a seat, and motions for the bartender, an alien with many eyestalks for a head. ”A drink for my guest.” She coos. The bartender quickly begins to pour two drinks, one a short glass with a honey colored whiskey in it, and the other a tall iced glass of some colorless liquor.
Pertinax wrote:"Karthac Brooson has been given ample warning that he is no longer welcome in this start system. His allies are dead, his fighters are space flotsam, and he has fled. It was not an elegant fight, but you can see that we sent a clear and powerful message. Now about payment."
The madam takes the HPC and watches the gun cam footage for a few seconds. She smirks and hands the HPC back. ”Seems like you’ve done as we have discussed. So payment indeed.” She says, picking up a small handbag, and quickly pulling out a card. ”A quarter million, like we discussed.” She says sliding the UTC Card towards Pertinax. ”And the information. Your easiest route to what I assume is your target is Schwartz Holdings, he has the most physical links to them. I will let you ask me three questions, and will try to answer them to the best of my abilities.” She says, her tone is smooth and calm.

Mungo is in an awfully good mood? Narcotic substance or discreet object in salacious places?

Interrupting his own train of thoughts he chimes in defensively.

"Hey, This One could not avoid the asteroids- they just appeared out of nowhere..." Noticeably flustered. "It thinks that they may have been sent by some benevolent entity to thwart its ascent onto the planet-" His embellishment noticeable, coming off almost as if he were not even trying to fool anyone, however, indeed the alien is. "Hey, when the sensors are back online we can look and see that the things were NOT there and then in an instant they WERE there... it's all either some weird coincidence or part of some conspiracy!" He says leaning into the lie, but internally fighting the embarassment of his mistake at the flight controls.

"No one has even asked where This One has been?! Did you all even notice The Promethean was gone?! Its been centuries that I was trapped in that weird dimension where time did not exist. I joined a group and went on several adventures just trying to get back here to you guys and this time period..." He is now uncomfortable and making up stories to feel better about the situation hoping no one paid attention to this last part, because he has no further information to support the whole 'gone for centuries' thing, and quickly redirects trying to steer the chatting elsewhere- anywhere.

Do we have a dedicated engineer? Do we need one? Is This One the nearest thing to an engineer we have aboard? Surely Glitch could be an engineer right? Or even Mungo??

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but an arrogant tarlok walks into a bar. Except this time, the tarlok isn't looking for a fight. He sits at the bar and gives a courteous nod to the woman sitting at the corner. This too is odd, after all he is showing deference to a woman of all things, and, even worse, an alien woman. Then again, dear reader, we know that Pertinax does not operate like a normal dreadmaster, especially since leaving the military. He understands, on some level that he pretends to not acknowledge, that he must collaborate with aliens, maybe even treat them like equals.

And the madam shows him proper deference, even if only because she's being professional, in both senses of the word.
Madam wrote:"That was fast, I do love efficient people."
"No rest for the wicked, as they say," Pertinax smiles cruelly.
Madam wrote:"A drink for my guest."
"Much appreciated." Pertinax graciously picks up the glass of whiskey and tips it towards her to toast. Once the glasses clink, he knocks the glass back in one gulp and then puts the it back on the bar. He then glances at the bartender and asks for another, "Small lager, please."
Madam wrote:"Seems like you’ve done as we have discussed. So payment indeed. A quarter million, like we discussed."
Pertinax holds out his own credstick to accept payment. With that settled he zips it back in the inner pocket of his hoodie. The credits are nice, but he is more interested in the other part of the payment.
Madam wrote:"And the information. Your easiest route to what I assume is your target is Schwartz Holdings, he has the most physical links to them."
He politely sips his drinks as he takes in this tidbit. Interesting. You would have assumed that his closest ties would be with his own in the Albrect Family. It takes a moment for him to recall what he knows bout Schwartz, something involving spaceships. Well, if your target is hidden off world, he might need a steady supply of custom parts for his ship, or space station, or wherever he is ensconced.
Madam wrote:"I will let you ask me three questions, and will try to answer them to the best of my abilities."
Pertinax takes another long sip and thinks carefully about what he is about to say. He wants to get as much information as possible from her as possible. His arrogant little chest sac patters skips a beat as it slows to a steady crawl. The dreadmaster is back in his element and he focuses to get back into spy-mode.

"I would like to know more about Schwartz Holdings," Pertinax says, his tone hushed and respectful. "Who do you know in their power structure, and what are there weaknesses? I want to know the easiest way to infiltrate their organization."

The second question: "Tell me what you know about my employer. For example, is he trustworthy?" He doesn't say Vin Meric's name. This is a game of discretion, and important details are implied but never stated aloud for any prying ears.

Finally, "Why are you offering this information? Presumably you want us to succeed in our mission, so what do you gain from it all?" Again, he never actually says the name Don Fermin. Letting what the two of them know hang in the air.

Pertinax listens to each answer, nodding. Once the Madam has said her piece, he finishes his drink in one long and slow sip. "Thank you for that information. And the drinks." He stands up and then slowly walks to the exit.

Suddenly, he stops and turns back. "This goes beyond our deal," Pertinax says in a forced tone that is either embarrassed or annoyed by what he is about to say next. "but could I ask for a souvenir? It is a custom among my team. It can be a cheap totchke (he struggles to say the word, despite the tarlok language largely consisting of harsh click-like sounds), a glass from the bar, or even a scarf in the lost and found." Regardless of whether or not he gets the souvenir he gives the madam one final nod, "It has been a pleasure."

Mungo simply continues working on the ships. Fixing what he can and making a list of stuff that he needs to buy. Well, if it’s available out there. We’ll see. All he does on the Ghost is run some diagnostic routines. He knows better than to mess around with phase tech.

He is happy for Pert to go off and meet his source of info. It’s his contact and it’s nice not to have them skulking around as he does, all the time, constantly. I wonder if he ever gets tired of it?

”Hey, Glitch. Anyrhing interesting happen with those ships?” When he sees Glitch he asks if the ships they noticed are still there.

I will begin an investigation into both while we wait for Pertinax to return." Glitch states. Initiate process... Program upload... Glitch tilts and zooms in on Trorrie then Mungo before answering. "Uneventful; I forcibly breached their communications however it operates on a cyclical refresh every few minutes so continuous monitoring was impractical. There was zero movement outside of security forces and dock personnel. I also deposited a code fragment for the Meijer Consortium. Should they see it, and be interested in my offer, they may be contacting me at some point. If we end up not needing them, it is no issue, there is no incrementing information to be discovered in the data packet." Glitch explains to those still on the Rogue.

Once Glitch finishes his explanation, he looks to Mungo, Trorrie and Bryke. "I am going to begin my inspection of the ship now. Please refrain from disturbing me until I have completed my diagnostics. I will not be conducting any hands on repairs or recommendations until I fully assess both ships." Glitch states and will then leave them to their own devices and start with the Bridge. Glitch will not do anything that further grounds the ship until completing a visual and electronical diagnostic of the problems.

Bryke tells a story about what happened to him and seems genuinely concerned that no one seemed to care that he was gone, but deep down, The Promethean is pretty sure they didn’t even notice, because to them, it seemed like nothing. Trorrie takes a life story about Mungo’s past as an insult, before asking Bryke what happened, while also explaining that she did technically ask, in a roundabout manner, before turning the same question to Glitch. Mungo is pretty sure that whatever is wrong with the Ghost, requires a degree in Quantum-Phase Integration Mechanics and tools that exist in several states of matter at the same time. Glitch also goes into diagnostic mode, but whatever is wrong with the Ghost is generally unknowable as it is effectively dead, so no systems are working to run diagnostics on, and the Rogue seems like it was when it left, it’s problems still many and numerous, and likely deeply dangerous when provoked. Glitch does manage to tell the group that nothing really happened since they left.

The Rogue is by all means fine, nothing needs fixed that any topical search can find.
The Ghost is without power and it is something Phase related that is causing the problem, meaning only someone skilled in building Phase devices can fix it. ((While Bryke is knowledgeable of Phase powers, he is not skilled in Phase Tech, nor is any player character ever going to be aloud.))

Meanwhile in the Brothel known as The Velvet Glove, Pertinax sits at a small bar with the Madam of the house, prepared to ask his three questions.
Pertinax wrote:"I would like to know more about Schwartz Holdings, Who do you know in their power structure, and what are there weaknesses? I want to know the easiest way to infiltrate their organization."
She sips her drink. ”Gurtz Murgenchilde. She’s their leader, originally a two bit thief who stole speeders and such, and eventually became the head of one of the largest black markets for spaceships. Her group is involved in many things involving ships, including starship duels, racing, and definitely theft, resale, and disassembly of starships. I think her second in command is a Promethean named Grax or something like that. As for how to infiltrate them, I wouldn’t have a clue, I would suppose you could either start from the bottom and work your way up. If you just want to muscle her for info, then I would have some unique ship that would interest her personally. Other than that, I don’t know much about the minutia of her organization.” The Madam says, pausing for Pertinax’s next question.
Pertinax wrote:"Tell me what you know about my employer. For example, is he trustworthy?"
The Madam shrugs. ”No idea, I have no clue who’s hired you.” The woman says with a genuine puzzlement. ”I only figured out what you were up to due to some context clues and a knowledge of what is actually happening in this corner of the galaxy. It’s not unknown that some folk are gunning for the boss, so when someone comes sniffing around that doesn’t seem to belong, it gets noticed.” The Madam says, her face still pleasant and her voice seductive.
Pertinax wrote:"Why are you offering this information? Presumably you want us to succeed in our mission, so what do you gain from it all?"
”No one likes to be under the thumb of others. Plus it causes me no concern when a rival is targeted. In the end if you succeed I gain a little freedom, if you fail, I lose nothing.” The woman says, her voice slightly dispassionate. ”Well that was three, that means our business is concluded.” The Madam says.
Pertinax wrote:"This goes beyond our deal, but could I ask for a souvenir? It is a custom among my team. It can be a cheap totchke, a glass from the bar, or even a scarf in the lost and found."
The Madam shrugs. ”Sure keep the glass.” She says.
Pertinax wrote:"It has been a pleasure."
”For sure, safe travels.” The Madam says as Pertinax makes his leave.
By the time Pertinax returns it is very late and most everyone, save Glitch, is tired from a very long day.

The madam at the Velvet Glove gives Pertinax plenty to contemplate and a nifty little shot glass. He toys with it between his two fingers as he walks back to the Rogue. Once on board, he sees that everyone else is asleep. Do you think they debriefed the auto-man before going to their quarters? Regardless, you will need to call a team meeting first thing in the morning.

And that is what he does. He wakes up 7:00 am sharp, and the first thing he does is get on the team comms and sends a message, "Meeting in the lounge in one hour."

He then goes about the rest of his routine as usual. He makes his bed, puts on a fresh set of pants, checks his weapons, and then heads to the mess hall to make the morning coffee. He doesn't actually like coffee all that much, in fact he hardly notices that the brew tastes better since replacing the shot up old coffee machine. He finishes his first cup and pours a refill before going to the lounge to wait for the others.

When Mungo walks in, he pulls holds up the shot glass and then offers it, "I brought you back something nice."

Once everyone is assembled he begins by stating, "I went to the Velvet Glove to collect our payment: 250,000 UTC and information on our target. I propose that we put credits to the team fund. I suspect that repairs to both ships will be costly." Pertinax pauses to see if there any objections.

If anyone does raise the subject, he simply glares at the person until they stop speaking and look away.

Then he moves on to the more important matter, the intelligence, "Speaking of ship repairs, the Madam suggested that we investigate Schwartz Holdings next. Apparently, our target has direct, in-person, contact with this group. If we are able infiltrate them, then we may be able to find where he is hiding. Or better yet, we may get lucky and encounter him at one of their shops."

"The good news is that we have an easy in with Schwartz Holdings," Pertinax continues. "They primarily deal in exotic, often stolen, ships and parts. We can approach them either buying or selling. We could go in offering to sell the Ghost as is, even damaged it would fetch a decent price."

Assuming that Bryke immediately bristles at the idea, Pertinax reassures him, "Do not worry. We would only use that as a pretense to engage with Schwartz. We do not actually have to go through with the sale."

"Then again," Pertinax offers the alternative, "we could go to them looking to buy parts." Pertinax glances over at Mungo, "What do you think you would need to get the collision cannon back to fully operational? And the Ghost?" Looking back at the others, he says, "See, it would be perfectly reasonable for us to do business with Schwartz Holdings. We simply have to act like we are NOT contract killers."

Learning that the Rogue itself is, for all intents and purposes, perfectly fine and the Ghost is currently beyond their comprehension to repair, Trorrie goes and makes herself a light bowl noodle soup, psionics used as a third hand, before leaving for her room to eat it and eventually fall asleep. A book levitates at reading height as she has her noodles and even after and her arms are crossed, comfortably situated in bed until she actually passes out.

Pertinax's voice only a few or even a couple hours later is met with a grumble and something easily grabbed with minimal movement is thrown in the direction of the intercom before not moving again for another fifteen minutes.

Very useful information. not much to question, and we can ditch the lemon. She thinks as she listens to what Pertinax has to say about his trip to the brothel last night.

"But we're a delivery service?" She chimes in, very much playing into the the suggestion they don't get paid to kill.

"Thanks. That is very kind of you." Then he looks directly at Pert. "Which is precisely why I'm completely baffled why you would do something like this... What gives, hmmmm?"

The Promethean, settling internally to being back "home" with The Rogues, ruminates. For the young little giant it is on one hand good to know that next to nothing has changed and all is business as usual, but in another line of thinking Bryke is a bit "butthurt" that no one seemed to notice his absence...

Ahhh what does it matter these three's lifespan will have long ended before mine- barring violence- in the whole scope of things, little matters about that right now. Would like to know for myself where that place was and if a return trip is a definite possibility... could have discovered my own personal dimension...

His thoughts trail to scientific breakthroughs and the idea of winning a Center-equivalent to the Nobel, or some other accolade. In the end though he moves to his quarters, immediately uses a cleanse spell on his person. He takes inventory, cleans, and organizes his weapons and gear uses cleanse again and moves to his personal place of rest.

The Promethean doesn't really sleep generally, whether a product of being a particularly self-sustained supernatural being, or whatever his chemical makeup is, he instead meditates throughout most every night he is not awake and roaming.

This is why when Pertinax's "business" interruption makes its way to his personal comms, Bryke is, very briefly, startled at the timing of it.

0600 Pert? Really?? We are not military and you are not there any longer... I think... hmmm is he still- nahh no way.

"Will do." Bryke sounds off on comms as if he were standing in formation in some past life will do?!?!? ahhh what the fu- no there is definitely a better way to- He stumbles back onto comms on his end as if he were trying to grab the previous words out of the device, dead space on the other end of about five seconds is what comes through though, "Received" he says darkly, attempting to create a self-perceived fictitious "radio" persona.

..................................
When Bryke arrives in the meeting room he stretches his arms and fake yawns obnoxious, loud and long, staring at Pertinax then looking around briefly and back at Pert. Mouth slightly open, teeth showing, left cheek and left eye scrunched a little together, he is wearing an expression that he thinks speaks, "Why man?? Why so early?!!"

For all that though, Bryke listens without interruption, until the Ghost is mentioned.

Bryke responds exactly as Pertinax predicted, and is noticeably uncomfortable- having no 'poker face' - yet he listens intently until his turn to offer speech.

"This One agrees, and what you offer is a good cover and "in"" Bryke does air quotes, "However, in truth, "throwing in the shower water" (towel) on The Ghost is not a good idea This One thinks. The vessel, while in serious need of repair that even I can not fix is unique and useful enough that to part with it would... 'border on the imbecilic'. It should be able to be fixed back home in Center."

Sarcastic observation: Of course they have to break the singular piece of advanced technology beyond even my own understanding. I must advance my own understanding as well, this form is already too limited. Glitch considers, holding out the mechanical hands of the android body in a brief moment of awareness.

When Pertinax issues the call for a meeting in one hour, Glitch wraps up whatever the intelligence was doing and silently strides towards the conference room and waits there silently for people to arrive. Pertinax is pleasantly surprised to see Mungo already in the lounge waiting for the meeting, at least until he notices that Mungo is in fact sleeping there. You would think that he would have slept in his quarters. Perhaps he has been working hard on repairing the ships. He is incredibly competent with the ships. So he wakes up the octoman to give him the shot glass he took from the Velvet Glove.
Mungo wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 8:02 am"Thanks. That is very kind of you. Which is precisely why I'm completely baffled why you would do something like this... What gives, hmmmm?"
"You asked me to bring you back something nice," Pertinax replies. Realizing that doesn't really explain 'why', he tells a half truth. "I was able to renegotiate our deal with the madam at the Velvet Glove. I plied her for more information about our target, and she offered this glass as a memento."

You still have it. It being an instinctive knack for subterfuge and deceit. While it does no good to lie to his own teammates, he is having too much fun as an assassin. And it is an innocent lie, one that does no harm. Besides, he doesn't even truthfully know why he asked for the glass. Thankfully, before Pertinax can reflect on this unprovoked act of comradery and why he's concealing it, Bryke walks in.
Bryke wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 8:11 am"Why man?? Why so early?!!"
"We are on mission," Pertinax replies coldly. "This is not a pleasure trip. (Although you are enjoying yourself quite a bit.) If you still think we are here to find prostitutes, then you can stay on this degenerate planet while I take care of business." there's a chippyness to Pertinax's tone. There always is, but this time it's different, almost poetic cadence as he if he is fondly remembering a past life, one where berating dreadlor was part of the daily routine*. "We might return to pick you up on our way back to Center."

On that note Pertinax then begins the briefing. He is not surprised that Bryke wants to keep the Ghost, and nods his head as the Promethean makes his case.

"I understand your concerns," Pertinax says, "the Ghost is a very sophisticated ship. However, it is not easy or cheap to repair. Are you sure that we can find someone on Center who knows how to repair it? For that matter, can the Ghost be repaired at all?"
Mungo wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 8:02 am"We might as well sell it. I think the think is borked beyond completely borked."
Pertinax nods again, accepting Mungo's authority on the matter. "Very well, we should be prepared to sell the Ghost if we can get a reasonable price for it." Seeing Bryke about to object, he adds, "We can make inquiries about looking for repairs, that will provide us cover while we are hunting for our target. See, it would be perfectly reasonable for us to do business with Schwartz Holdings. We simply have to act like we are NOT contract killers.**"

"I am always mentally prepared," Pertinax replies with a sneer. "If I was not, I would have died on a backwater planet even more anonymous than this one decades ago. How do you want to approach Schawrtz Holdings when we arrive?"
Glitch wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 9:07 am"Provided we can find an access point to their physical locations, I can infiltrate more effectively and remain undetected while others infiltrate more directly to engage them in business, as you say."
"Reasonable" Pertinax says with curt approval. "You should go with Bryke and Mungo to see about repairing or selling the Ghost. That should provide you with the opportunity to get into their systems." He pauses and thinks about what he will do. "I want to make a few personal inquiries while we are visiting the asteroid belt. Hopefully that will provide us more clues on our target."

Concluding the briefing, Pertinax says, "If no one has any remaining business on this planet, I would like to leave in the next three hours."

* "Do you realize how many dead comrades blood is on your besotted king fingers?" You are screaming over the sound of fire alarms that refuse to stop even after the last of the smoke has gutted out.
Even if the alarms had stopped you would still be running through every insult you have ever . One dreadlor decided to slacken his patrol of your bases perimeter, and this allowed an guerilla to stash a bomb inside a hover RV. And now 30 tarlok soldiers are dead, including 5 of your own dreadlor. Both you and the guilty guard feel the dull ache of losing members of your squadron.
But you are not yelling because of the lingering psionic pain. And you don't to tell your dreadlor how bad his mistake was; he knows. You are screaming because it is what you do as a tarlok officer. At the slightest sign of weakness from your own soldiers, you are trained to unleash blind fury.
Nostalgia often forgets how you really felt at the moment.

"I think you guys are really overthinking this 'Contract Killers' thing a tad. Why bother with a complicated facade? We are simply people who are offloading a ship that we think is worth a pretty penny. It's beat to shit, so its likely we took it by violence. It will likely be a no-questions-asked sort of thing. They won't ask how we got it. If they did, they would likely accept the flimsiest of explanations. It's not like we are going to ask how they got the money that they will offer for the ship... All we have to do is NOT mention that we are looking to off someone at the top of the hierarchy." Mungo offers his opinion. Why do some of these guys have such an erection for subterfuge? We are simply shitheads who want to sell a stolen ship to other shitheads. He can feel his state of general annoyance rising.

Mungo stares and then squints hard at Pertinax. He looks like he is definitely not buying whatever it is that Pert is trying to sell.

"No. No. Apart from the bit about you pling her for more info, because of course you did, I don't think any of that happened in real life. Why do you feel the need to lie? It's getting weird man... Did I actually ask you to bring back something nice? Damn, I have my faults but I don't know if I'm that mentally challenged. Asking a Tarlok to bring back something 'nice' is high-level stupidity.... I've read some of your so-called classic literature. If that qualifies as good.... well, I dunno" Mungo trails off. Eventually, he waves a tentacle, shrugs and tries to move on.

"Organic forms ... weakness..." Mungo mutters under his breath.

"Funny thing about us organics is that they start to take jibes and loaded criticisms personally after a while. However, dear machine brother, you probably have that information stored away in your files somewhere." He uses four tentacles to massage his temples as if he has a headache. "Hang on, does that mean that you have no organic parts at all? You know, obviously, because if you did have some, then you would not be so completely superior to the rest of us filthy organics."
He asks Glitch, his voice dripping with so much sarcasm that he might have to conjure up a towel to wipe it off.

"So, you have no bio back ups? No eyeball Mark I, etc?"

"In that case, what happens if I do this?"

Then he pauses. Mungo, old boy, are you sure this is a good idea?... He he, nope not really... Then, he casts Frequency Jamming(-15 p.p.e, BoM pg 112) on Glitch, just to see what happens.

Pertinax calls an early morning meeting, which receives a variety of colorful commentary. Once the group is gathered, Pertinax tells the team what info he gathered, Before proposing a basic plan, to which everyone seems to have something to say about it. While most think offering the now dead Ghost as a bargaining chip is a good idea, with Bryke being the sole detractor. Glitch has some colorful commentary, effectively insulting everyone he works with. Pertinax tries to reason with Bryke, who doesn’t immediately respond, before turning his attention to Glitch’s accusations of being weak to deception. Mungo doesn’t seem to take too kindly to the jabs, and decides to make his displeasure known. Mungo quickly casts a spell, and Glitch suddenly finds himself cut off from all sensory input, even more to the case he’s unable to speak out, not that he would know, as he can’t hear anything anyways. Around three minutes pass before Glitch’s senses return, though he isn't truly sure how long has passed. During which, Pertinax sets a three hour deadline to leave for the system's outer asteroid belt.

I was the one who had Mungo ask Pertinax to bring him back something nice as he left, a flippant throw away line… ~Consumer

When Mungo casts his magic and Glitch is suddenly cut off from all sensory input, the intelligence simply stands there and activates one of the technological faces on his screen expressing his displeasure at Mungo's actions. Glitch stands there silently for three minutes without moving, when his sensory systems resync, he speaks. "I merely pointed out a flaw we need to be aware of and account for. Pertinax accounted for it. You instead decided to show you can cripple me. Does it make you feel powerful? Can you protect your mind as Pertinax can? This is why magic should not be in the hands of organics." Glitch states coldly. As they do return, Glitch's iris refocuses and he runs a brief scan on his systems before looking to Mungo and Bryke.

"I am fully aware of my own limitations and am actively taking steps to remedy them. Until then, I must rely that my associates will not exploit or disclose them. Now, shall we go see about selling the Ghost to initiate this plan?" Glitch questions, though the android does not wait for an answer as it moves. "I will need you two to engage them in sales conversation while I attempt to infiltrate their systems." Glitch states, the no-nonsense android already past the display. Observation: A display of an inferiority complex to take direct insult to a commonly know flaw of the organic mind. Susceptibility to influence. I must watch what I say around that one to avoid future outbursts. Glitch adds a note to Mungo's file.

Glitch will then do what needs to be done to get the information on the Ghost into a datapad or the like for the purposes of providing basic information to a seller before waiting for Mungo and Bryke to depart. While waiting, Glitch goes over the display from Mungo in his logs, trying to ascertain as much information as possible. Carefully recreating the scene from fragmented data right before his sensors were completely shot. A weakness Mungo demonstrated Glitch hadn't fully considered yet. The threat of magic was a known one, but for such a simple wave of a hand to cripple him was new. Observation: An interesting development; perhaps there is some credence to the usefulness of organic traits. Not being fully technological, nor organic but a combination of both. Synthetic blending of both would allow for the unreadable and powerful mind of an intelligence embodied by the bio-synthetic body. More research must be done into this; perhaps Sigma would enjoy the challenge. Glitch considers. A new path on his evolutionary step slowly taking shape.

Mungo watches Glitch the Statue as he waits. At first he is rather amused, however slowly but surely he starts to wonder if he did the right thing.

"I'm not sure that spell is working as planned. I actually don't know if it would have any affect on dear machine brother or not. He's not doing much is he? You see, I've never cast that spell on such a complex "machine". I hope I haven't broken him for good.

That happened once. I cast this spell on an... appropriate object... that, I assume, never worked right afterwards. Every time I passed through that particular checkpoint again techs were always working on it. Then the item was marked out of order and eventually it was replaced."
Mungo says to the crew. His tentacles fidgeting about in a way that the others seldom see, as he considers the grim fate of machines that don't function properly.

"Well gosh! You seem back to your old self in no time. While I enjoyed the brief respite from such bangers as 'This is why magic should not be in the hands of organics", I am happy to see you hale and hearty and in fine form."

"Righto then. Lets get on this job them. No time like the present." He say as he claps a pair a tentacles together. He heads off to his quarters to get ready for the outbound trip. He is very relieved that Glitch seems fine.

Pertinax, not interested in the squabbling heads to his quarters to prepare for the trip, while Mungo and Glitch continue to banter, whether it’s insults or just conversation is really up to the listener at this point, which other than the two of them is Bryke and Trorrie, who have stayed quiet since the major part of the conversation. The group splits up to take care of their various wants and needs. With Bryke, Trorrie, and Mungo also heading back to their respective quarters to prepare for the trip. Glitch makes his way to the cramped cargo bay to try and get some info about the Ghost, which has to all be done from memory, and isn’t much as the Android has not had a lot of interaction with the Promethean made vehicle. What he does know is it is modified from an actual fighter to carry more personnel at the cost of firepower, any other statistics are just unavailable to Glitch at the moment. Glitch also considers how easily Mungo crippled him, even temporarily, and tries to piece together info, but all he really notes is that once the spell, which only took a second or two to manifest, happened, he was instantly cut off from sensory data, even his chronograph failed. Glitch considers organic technological fusion, but it doesn’t seem very feasible or practical in the end.

A few hours pass, before the crew mounts up and goes through the generic task of getting permission and flight instructions to leave Misandri Station. Everything goes smoothly, and the Rogue is given permissions to leave the station and a flight course to the nearest lagrange point. The course is easily plotted, and the ship makes way towards the area of the third belt, known as Spacer’s Run. It takes the ship approximately seven hours to get in range of the area, and from a general sensor sweep, the crew can see that the area consists of approximately two dozen asteroid facilities and a few small space stations. The traffic in the area is surprisingly dense with a variety of ships, from humble bulk haulers and small gunships up to a seemingly repurposed Golgan picket ship. Also scattered among the stations are buoys with holographic billboards offering a variety of goods and services from a variety of business in the area. Every so often one seems to have practical information with radio channels to access traffic control and such.

See, it would be perfectly reasonable for us to do business with Schwartz Holdings. We simply have to act like we are NOT contract killers.**"
It amazes me that any of these aliens consider The Ghost to be something that they can weigh in on. They were not there when The Rogues earned the ship. They were not part of the combat involved to win our lives, let alone the spoils. And none of them even knew of The Rogues as a troupe- maybe one of them is on a first name basis with our former benefactor- anything is possible in this megaverse. Truly I do not have an attachment to The Ghost save the facts that This One is the only one that was there when it was accquired, so for them to be speaking of it as though they have a say really disturbs my mental... the audacity of aliens these days. Where are the honorable ones?

"-Nevertheless This One now thinks selling The Ghost may be the best thing if and only if we cannot repair it, or the cost of doing so is too high. This One will double check The Ghost via a "Telemechanic diag." and see what can be done- to respond to one of your inquiries directly Pertinax, if it cannot be fixed on Center, it cannot be repaired any where- prices may vary though so if it is too high to fix- it could or could not be, then selling The Ghost makes sense for each of you here who have no sentimental attachment to the vessel. Nor were any of you here to earn it when they did." The Promethean says interrupting his thoughts and adding a touch of spice at the end.

...............................
In the three hours rendezvous time Bryke uses Telemechanics to diagnosis the ship, and places things that need repair onto a data stick and presents it to the group when they are all back in conference on the flight deck to leave. En-route he covers the things he found necessary to keep the ship aloft and phasing, first and in general, and then cosmetic(s) last (briefly).

He does some research and cross referencing with Mungo and/or Glitch on space flight systems in order to have strong talking points for the "sale" of the ship as well as a good decision on keeping it or not.

Pilot: Small spacecraft (90%) 1d100: [3] = 3 - Navigate and dock at asteroid

Once everyone is ready, Pertinax gets into the pilot's seat and sets a course for the third asteroid belt, not to the fourth. He does not fly to the second, except only to pass it on the way to the third. (The fifth one is just right out.) The flight is long and uneventful, allowing Pertinax to go into an almost trance-like state as he let's the ship's auto-pilot do most of the work for the next seven hours. He is at ease, letting the mission details run through his head and considering what his next actions are. He considers selling the Ghost; Bryke's objections to selling it pose a challenge. It is nice to have a fighter at your disposal during a sortie. But its upkeep is difficult and expensive. Because it is rare specialized tech, as the Promethean pointed out. So specialized we might not be able to repair it. He comes to no conclusion on the matter, and decides to see what they find out from the mechanics working for the Meijer Consortium.

When the increase in traffic along with the signs that line the major flight lanes Pertinax snaps to attention and starts to more actively fly the ship. He weaves around the other ships muttering relatively benign threats to their pilots under his breath. You are making great time. He practices the art of unseeing on the billboards, barely registering their presence unless it is providing useful information, which they do not, save for the ones recommending which radio bands to listen for traffic reports.

The idle patter is both irritating and soothing. Much like unseeing, he tunes out most of the chatter to nattering background noise, only perking up when he hears a report of a collision nearby or an alert of excessive traffic at a certain vector. He also listens for any ads for shops that specialize in exoctic spaceships and technology. When he identifies one that is as likely to fix the Ghost as anyone else in this asteroid belt.

Once he has a sense of where to go, he flies sets a course to that port. As he approaches, he radios the tower asking for permission to dock. "This is Pertinax, pilot of the Rogue looking for permission to land."

If asked to state his business, he honestly answers, "We are looking to either repair or sell a small space craft. Need someone in phasetech if you have one."

He pays any docking fees and then follows the port authorities instructions for bringing the Rogue in. It handles like an obstinate and intoxicated large mammal. If you've ever parallel parked a Cadillac or Buick, you have a sense of how elegant Pertinax's flying is.

The range of different kinds of ships catches his attention. Interesting selection of ships out there... Is that a Golgan warship? A little one, but even so...

"Very well! Where do you think the best place is for us to start?" He asks the others on the bridge.

She only slightly changes her mind about how quickly the Ghost is sold. Something of its kind surely can do wonders when it's properly functioning and not behave as it done when Broke took it out against the little slaver ship that stood no chance, but she doubted they would be getting it repaired any time soon. What are the odds they'd find a Promethean mechanic in this part of the three galaxies anyway? She even decides to let the Promethean on the Rogue when the Ghost is properly a lemon without outwardly saying as such.

From the end of the brief to arrival in the third astroid belt and definitely not the fifth, Trorrie goes back to sleep, door cracked so as to properly hear foot steps or see the cast of someone passing by if and when she awoke. Once in the astroid belt, the Draconid would look at the billboards, ships, and debris that makes up an asteroid belt with wonder and maybe a little bit of I get a good opportunity, I'm getting some. or Oooh, I hope we have time to check out the hovercycles and rocket bikes.

When asked where a good place to start she answers with, "We could start in the docks, that's tended to do something for us. And there's probably plenty of locals and businesses that could point us to Schwarts Holdings."

Once Glitch's diagnositics of the Ghost are complete and his concept running into an error, Glitch returns to the Bridge as Pertinax is flying through the asteroid belt. Glitch remains quiet and allows Pertinax to concentrate, there is even a chance the Tarlok doesn't know Glitch is standing behind him. During the flight, Glitch will cycle his Undercover Program in place of his Pilot program and his Mechanical for his Demolitions program. Glitch watches Pertinax pilot and answer the radio in such silent focus it actually impresses the intelligence. Practical Observation: Interesting, he is capable of focusing with a remarkable precision. I will gauge his reaction to my presence. Glitch considers as he runs the scenario to consider how Pertinax will react. As Pertinax lands, Glitch will take a brief moment and test his installed phase field to insure it still functions.

After Petinax radios the tower, Glitch waits for the message to be completed and any answer to be had before speaking. "Concise. If they value business that will attract attention. I was unable to learn much about the Ghost during my diagnostic, any proper selling of it's abilities will rely on Bryke and Mungo." Glitch states to Pertinax before turning to exit the bridge and prepare to find the information they need.

Glitch will wait silently for Mungo and Bryke. When Bryke appears, Glitch will disclose whatever information he was able to glean from the Ghost. "Unfortunately, it's technology is beyond mine so I cannot determine more. It will be up to you both to get the best deal. I will conduct surveillance while you conduct business." Glitch says, turning his head towards Mungo. When they are ready to depart, Glitch leaves with them and will case the location as discretely as possible.

Bryke spends a bit of the trip using Telemechanics to determine what needs fixed, but finds his efforts stymied by the nature of the ship’s Phase Tech origin, which is resistant/outright immune to the psychic power. This is why Phase Tech is not as valued by the galaxy at large for its difficulties in repair/modification without being a Phase Tech Expert. All Bryke can truly rely on is skill in starship repair, which is not a skill in his repertoire.

Mungo spends the trip relaxing, which is rather normal for short hops like this, that FTL is not an option. The Octoman finds himself refreshed and relaxed when the Rogue nears the area known as Spacer’s Run.

Trorrie also decides to take a nap, and finds herself rested when the ship arrives.

Glitch, not having much to do but some self adjustment, stands quietly in the cockpit with Pertinax as he flies.

As the Rogue is now in view of the spectacle of the pirate port, the radio comes alive with radio traffic. Some encrypted, most open and varied. It takes Pertinax a few long moments of channel surfing to find what appears to be a control channel.
Pertinax wrote:"This is Pertinax, pilot of the Rogue looking for permission to land."
”Copy Rogue. Please hold position for just a moment.” The voice on the other end says, before what can only be described as a serious and pointed scan comes directed at the Rogue. Several seconds pass before the radio comes to life once more.

”Please head to coordinates 098.72.9175, then await a fleet tender to pick you up for transport to whichever station you’re in need of. Welcome to Spacer’s Run.” The voice says before cutting out.

The coordinates seem to be a high anchor point where a lot of ships are congregated, a proverbial parking lot. Once parked, the group can see several ferries moving about, gathering or depositing crews on a variety of ships.

"Roger that," Pertinax replies. He punches the coordinates into the ship's navigation and then let's auto-pilot do most of the work. Although it is slower going the traffic is lighter, which doesn't irritate Pertinax. While he likes to/compulsively needs to make good time, he flies slow near ports and follows the coordinates given. There's a social contract, and Pertinax keeps his end of the bargain so long as no one slows him down in the wider shipping lanes.

Once to port, he calls the others together. "It's late. We should wait until tomorrow to find a mechanic to work or buy the Ghost. I am going out for a drink."

That is not an invitation, and he heads off the ship without looking to see who follows. He follows the general flow of traffic to the main commercial area of the spaceport. Once there he looks for one of the following in order of priority: 1) a mechanic's bar where people who work on the docks go to unwind afterwards; 2) a dive bar that looks like the type of place where people go to stay invisible; 3) a food stand on a crowded street where he can watch pedestrians go by; or 4) a well-lit and moderately clean cafeteria with cheap food.

Wherever he ends up, he finds a place to sit with his drink/food and watch people. Do you expect to see someone from the Meijer Consortium to just pass by? Or even more ludicrous, to find your target? Pertinax doesn't mind, he simply takes in the crowd and gets a sense for what the spaceport is like. He watches for CCW security, seeing how big of a presence they have around here. He watches how people go about their business - relaxed or closely guarded - and gauges how safe the port is. And of course, he looks to see if the Meijer Consortium makes their presence visible in any way.

She comes out of her room with a stronger yawn than anticipated, tongue lazily sticking out without a thought as she reaches the bridge only to be sucked back in hearing coordinates to dock at. She finds herself talking to herself as she looks up the location as quickly as she heard it said, "Zero-nine-eight; the fuck is that?"

"We need a specific station?" She looks around not sure if they even know where to start thinking if an answer to that question. Find out when I get there I guess.

"The night's young big guy." She chimes to Pertinax saying it is, "The fun just started" She doesn't spend to much extra time aboard the Rogue to venture out for the night.

She would gawk at the ships in the parking lot if that was her thing, but unfortunately for their crews, they are not and the Draconid is trying to focus on finding something probably mostly unrelated. Her interest is caught if she sees a sleek hovercycle or rocket bike though and can only wonder the probability she'll look a little silly approaching the rider without either. Her strong interest in fast bikes of either type is likely helpful in that aspect, that, and the want to collect.

Should she not see bikes to catch her attention, she treats the parking lot for ships like any under maintained, dirty parking lot as swifty as possible. Her vacating the area would potentially take her to where bikers and their mechanics congregate.

Mungo watches Pert and Torrie leave the ship. Hmmm, I think I'd rather head out alone. Feels like Pert is a mood again. Torrie feels like... who knows?

"Have fun out there, don't do anything I wouldn't do." He calls cheerily after them. He leaves the ship a few minutes later. He catches a ferry and asks if this one will take him to a place with bars. They all have bars Mungo. That thing about living in space, even if you don't like to drink, you need to drink out here. Mungo ponders the low-level existential dread of living and working out in a belt like this. A few layers of sheet metal between you and the gaping void leads to a certain level of, more or less constant, thirst for alcohol or similar substances.

Upon reaching his destination, Mungo goes where his senses lead him. He slips into his first-visit-of-a-new-place mode. He just takes it all in without gawking. As usual, he keeps an eye out for any sign of Staphra. Trying to get a read on this place and the people that live and work here. He finds somewhere to get a drink and takes a seat at the bar. He makes idle chit chat with anyone who seems interested. He asks the bartender about whatever they've got playing on the screen.

He is just another spacer taking a few precious moments away from the rest of his crew that he has to spend the full 100% of his time with. Not far from the truth really.

After getting a feel for the place, Mungo heads back to the ship. Apparently, they'll try and find a mechanic tomorrow.

Glitch listens to the radio call then watches as Pertinax enters the coordinates and lets the ship fly on auto-pilot. The intelligence judging the complacency of the organic crewmember in a still silence; one might forget Glitch was even in the room. Observation: This is why most fatalities between starcraft happen at ports. Organic pilots put the ships on auto-pilot. Glitch considers silently. When they arrive at the coordinates, Glitch will silently wait for the ferry and when Pertinax fails to provide a destination, Glitch will speak up.

"We require a station with a starcraft vendor/mechanic, one of the better ones with phasetech if possible. Whichever you think fits the bill, we will go from there." Glitch will inform the Ferry when they arrive to transport them. Glitch will then look to Pertinax. "Aggressively organized for a consortium of pirate stations." Glitch comments to Pertinax.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

General Info wrote:Time/Date: 6:30 PM (Center Standard Time); 10/06/5023 (Center Reckoning)
Location: Corkscrew Galaxy, Spacer’s Run, 3rd Asteroid Belt;, Dextros System.
Weather: Space
Mission Notes
Other Notes:
Several long minutes pass after the Rogue is parked in the high orbit locale, around the cobbled together gunship are a variety of transports, gunships, and just plain cargo craft. Some are drab and barely put together, while others are flamboyant and garish colors with a variety of art on their hulls. Eventually a small drab cargo shuttle approaches the Rogue, it’s the kind of ship larger ships might use to ferry cargo between stations or other ships. Little more than engines, a cargo container, and a separate cockpit.

The crew feels the ship dock with the Rogues airlock and is quickly ready to allow the crew to depart for the stations that make up Spacer’s Run. This does seem to indicate that if the crew finds themselves in trouble, they will have a difficult time fleeing back to the safety of their own ship. The Airlock opens into a rather drab cargo area with a dozen jump seats (folding seats mounted to the wall, common in modern cargo aircraft) along the walls and little else. Once everyone is onboard, the airlock hisses closed and a holo-projection of a grizzled looking Chameleon like alien, with grayish scales, wearing a serviceable looking space suit appears. ”Afternoon folks, names Chip. Where can I take you folks?”

The Rogues speak up, and the ferryman listens. ”Spacecraft sales and mechanics… Well to be fair they’re kind of scattered all about the stations. As for someone specializing in Phasetech, that is about as rare as cosmo-knights out here, so your best bet would be at the main station. Has some of the bigger merchants and mechanics there.” Chip says as he leans out of frame to grab something. Chip reappears with a cigar in his mouth. ”Also has just about everything else a space could want. Shops, bars, gambling dens, brothels, flop houses… you know the necessities.” Chip says with a laugh. ”Last thing we need to discuss is payment. Fifty credits per passenger, slots next to the door.” Chip says, the ferry sitting still, until the payment is made.

”So you folks up to anything fun, or just looking to unwind?” Chip asks as the shuttle disconnects from the Rogue. The Alien keeps up any and all small talk while maneuvering the small shuttle from the anchorage. Only a few minutes later the Galactic Rogues feel the shuttle dock with something. ”Alright folks, we’ve arrived at your destination. If you need transport back or to any of the other stations, we have kiosks near the docking points. Enjoy your time on Spacer’s Run.” Chip says as the airlock opens once more revealing a large hall, clogged with sentient beings from what appears to be all walks of life and aliens from all three of the local galaxies. They range from salt of the earth workers/spacers to flamboyantly dressed nobles or maybe pirates. The noise is just shy of deafening, with hawkers yelling over each other to sell their wares and knick knacks.

Pertinax looks about and finds at least six bars in eyesight, as well as a dozen food stalls scattered around this main area. Two of the six bars seem more popular, from what the Tarlok can see, one boasts live dancers, while the other seems to also have gambling. As for CCW presence, if there is one, which is unlikely, they are well undercover. Entering one of the four bars as the likely place where one might find the kind of folk he’s looking for, especially aiming for one that seems quieter than the others, Pertinax finds it crowded and very lively, but compared to the others, relatively quiet. The only security is local folk in a generalized uniform for the establishment. The clientele seems pretty varied, with what may amount to half local, half transient.

Trorrie looks for mechanics or Bikers, which seems more and more unlikely as there doesn’t seem to be any ground vehicles in use on the station, but she is unable to discern what any of the folk she’s eyeing professions or inclinations may be (Failed Perception). So randomly picking, Trorrie heads into a bar, and finds the place packed with spacers, drinking and talking.

Mungo also randomly picks one of the bars and makes his way in, if anyone finds the octoman strange, they certainly don’t show it. The crowd is lively and the drinks pour freely, while folk enjoy libations and other more illicit substances.

Glitch finds the place full of ‘uggh’ organics doing whatever their chaos fueled brains feel like. But true to his word, Glitch does see several shops boasting starship sales. Though none seem to openly advertise their wares from the bright neon signs on their facades.

This place is effectively Space Tortuga or Nassau during the age of piracy, with a bit of Las Vegas for flavor.

Once on the Rogue is properly parked, Pertinax finally gets out of the pilot's seat and relaxes. Or something like that. He packs his things (including his 'non-violent' weapons) and heads to the ferry. He does not like that they having such limited access to the ship. You will not be able to make a fast retreat. Try not to provoke anyone while you are here. The cheerful ferry pilot does little to ease Pertinax. Maybe it's the too on the nose name.

Pertinax takes out the team credstick and pays for everyone to reach the station.
Chip (dumb name) wrote:"So you folks up to anything fun, or just looking to unwind?"
"Unwind," Pertinax replies curtly. He isn't interested in sharing pleasantries, instead focused purely on the mission. He considers whether or not they will find Don Formin, highly unlikely. But the Schwartz Holdings will bring them closer to their target. Yes, he is because he likes to buy spaceships and custom parts for them. But he has to do something to pass his time here. And that's when Pertinax realizes that this chipper reptile might be useful. "Any good gambling around here?" he asks. "Does anyone race spaceships? Or are there any fights? Cards? I will even settle for a decent dice game."

A c. Pertinax asks about bloodsports because t And the other two are for cover.
Chip (dumb name) wrote:"Alright folks, we’ve arrived at your destination. If you need transport back or to any of the other stations, we have kiosks near the docking points. Enjoy your time on Spacer’s Run."
"That is good to know," Pertinax says as he steps off the ferry. Once the Rogues are alone, he brings them into a huddle. In a low whisper he suggests a plan for the night. (It is more or less what he would have said in the last post, but with some curial edits.)

"It is late, and I doubt we will find anyone who will want to work or buy the Ghost. I propose we go and explore the station and see what we can learn about Schwartz Holdings. I plan on spending the night on the station; the ferry recommended some cheap places to sleep. Is anyone planning on returning to the ship?" Pertinax takes note of who is staying on the station and who plans on going back. "Very well. We can coordinate via radio in the morning. Now I am going to get a drink."

That is not really an invitation to the team, and he disappears into the crowd of the station. He finds a quiet bar and observes the people passing by over a few lite beers. There is nothing particularly interesting going on. While Schwartz Holdings is operating here, they don't appear to be in charge; kleptocracy this is not. If the bar has a food menu Pertinax orders something to absorb the alcohol, like ribs or wings. If not he will pay his tab and then find something to eat on the street.

After eating Pertinax goes to look for the places Chip recommended for gambling. His main interest is spaceship racing, and if there is a place to go, that's where Pertinax will go first. After all, a criminal kingpin with a soft spot for rockets would naturally be drawn to the races. He places a small bet (100 UTC) on the ship with the most aggressive name. Then he sits back and observes who is gambling. He also watches the pits, if those are visible, and identifies the mechanics. He wants to identify someone he can talk about the Ghost with.

If there are no races, he will look for some bloodsport. There's nothing more wholesome to a tarlok than watching two sentient beings beat each other senseless. Similar to the races, Pertinax will place a small bet on the fighter that looks most like a bloodless killer. He will still look out for any mechanics that he might want to talk to in the morning, but they're not going to be as visible here. He grabs one more drink and then calls it a night. The other two options, cards and dice, were just a ploy and he doesn't actually looking for either. In the end, he finds the most anonymous flophouse, and pays for a night.
