Bert, Vinny, Ashrak, MOD:

The four of you meet each other Geo's orbitunscathed, Grizzelblak hugs a nearby moon. The CAF captain is still onboard Grizzelblak, as is now Kantos. When in position, Grizzelblak says over the radio:

"Folks, we are about 25,000 kilometers from Geo and you can make way to the shuttle to land. It is near mid day on Geo right now. Would you like me to announce our arrival to our would-be employers?"

All of a sudden, one of the survivors of the last raid, the pleasurer, has decided to ask for permission to board the bridge over the radio. Her tone seems quite urgent.

Grizzelblak murmurs in sharp tones in response: "Why can't I see her?"

Dr. White:

The robot dogs dip their heads down and back up. They aren't necessarily salivating, but they seem eager to hear your feedback.

Zilch:

The idea of little drones helping out Zilch peculates while he continues work on the Asteriod's kitchen.

Phara is idly toying with the ship's weapons, pointing them this way and that, taking the very basic precaution of 'don't point it at any other ships yet' approach to her attempt to alleviate boredom. Her helmet is off, sitting next to her, hooked on some of the controls in front of her. Upon hearing the news of their arrival, she stands and stretches, taking her helm under an arm. "I dunno. Could be fun to surprise. Imagine if we catch them in some sorta double-cross deal," she muses, flashing a grin at her incorporeal captain. "Would be a mighty fine excuse to shoot 'em up." Otherwise it'd just be another boring meeting. Unless that projector is there again.

When her suggestion is most certainly shut down, she chuckles, and begins walking towards the cockpit door. "You got it, boss" she'll say simply. Upon reaching the door, she spins in place, about to say something else, but whatever stupid snark she's about to spout is cut off by the request of the pleasurer, along with the Grizzelblak's comment.
Grizzelblak wrote:"Why can't I see her?"
Phara immediately shifts position, helmet jammed into place over her head the same instant her Volcano Rifle jumps up to point at the door, the set of circumstances triggering some weird UWW instinct that managed to stay ingrained in her. She steps to the side of the door, keeping her voice low. "Open it and see what's going on, MOD? Kinda weird with our ship-pal not being able to see them."

White cocks his head as he regards the floating black orb with a mixture of curiosity, rapture, and… hunger? Well, I don’t feel any different. But a cognitive filter? That can’t be good. Who knows what sorts of bias it could introduce. If the Peer Reviewers ever found out, why, even an eloquently-written limitations section wouldn’t get me out of it. Besides, who knows what it even is or what sorts of scientific applications it might have! Screwing up his face into a grin, White nods and says ”Okay, let’s do it! I for one can’t wait to see what sort of fun little otherworldly thing I’ve been carrying along all this time. Is there any way you could get me a specimen for the lab?” He asks hopefully.

JIC: 1d20: [8] = 8 , 1d100: [97] = 97
Perception: 65% (77% in darkness) / 1d100: [33] = 33 (SUCCESS)

Conditions:
Range: 900 feet. Alerts to the presence of powerful life forms who are more than human, such as supernatural creatures, other super beings (including mutants and aliens), Major and Master Psychics, and those imbued with magic. It cannot identify or pinpoint the location of the superhuman life forms but will let the character know they are within his sensing range. Life Sense also warns the character when he is severely injured and his own life is in danger of slipping away. This occurs when the character is down to 20% of his M.D.C. or less, as well as when he has just eaten or been injected with lethal poison/venom. Furthermore, the character can sense when others within range are hurt and dying. In the latter case, the superhuman can actually track the sensation to the injured, dying individual (if a good guy, it is to help find and rescue the person, if a bad guy, it may be to gloat or finish the poor soul off).
,
The character's stomach into a bottomless pit, capable of eating nearly anything and his teeth and jaws are capable of chewing steel bars. The stomach of this person transforms 95% of everything eaten into pure energy, meaning that no mater how much he eats, it is digested or harmlessly dispersed without him getting fat or too full. The character can eat even inorganic, non-foods, like stone, metal, glass, rubber or plastic.

Zilch, frowns in concentration (a truly impressive feat given his lack of discernible eyebrows), and wrestles with salvaged parts. He shoves and heaves various bits into place, his monstrous strength making the task physically easy, but the understanding of where they were supposed to go a delightful surprise. I shouldn't know how to do this, but I do. That weird brain curry hasn't seemed to have worn off yet. I shall have a kitchen soon!

Then comes the real fun: the innards. Zilch, works on connecting a bewildering array of pipes and wires. He salvages a tangled mess from the "Reign of Death," and through trial, error, and more than a little hammering, he tries to put it all together.

Now monster logic may well differ from that of their food (humans). Sure, he may occasionally force a pipe into a completely unrelated socket or twist various wire colours together with total disregard for any discernible logic. But will it work?

He hums happily to himself, and is convinced that eventually, by the sheer volume of connections, everything would somehow… work. Hopefully most Reavers will be out of explosion range when he turns it all on.
OMM-nom-nom-nom...
M.D.C.: 440/581
Hyperactive metabolism M.D.C.: 45/45
Assuming Zilch ate at least 100lbs of food in the last hour

Nightvision: Can see perfectly in ordinary, magical and his own unnatural darkness. Range: 900 feet (274 m) in normal darkness; 45 feet (13.7 m) in his own, unnatural, darkness.

Ashrak is pleased to a punch when MOD agrees to support his newly thought up passion project. Ahh, excellent! I wonder what the being of light will think of a black hole bomb. Mmm, definitely will need to keep this secret. I suspect it'd be... discouraged by the governments at large. Ashrak considers through a twisted grin. When he runs into Vinney he playfully records and shakes a tentacle. "Radio's are so impersonal! I like being able to look others in the eye" Ashrak says in a playfully horrifying tone.

Ashrak coils towards the intercom then back towards MOD aboard the Grizzleback and twists in distaste. "What? No, no. Let us arrive fashionably, right at their front door step. It will be a display of authority, plus, are not our movements safer the fewer who know in this precarious situation" Ashrak says playfully before waving his fangarms and sighing. "I like Vinney's idea! Yes, we should have fun with this." Ashrak exclaims playfully.
Grizz wrote:"Why can't I see her?"
Ashrak coils around in confusion. "Mm, can you see me? Or hear me? Maybe it is something like that?" Ashrak considers with a wry grin.

Skill Stuff
Hours to make physical shell 1d4: [1] = 1
Limited mind reading (68%) 1d100<68: [2*] = 1

With an uneventful flight towards Geo, MOD uses the time to shuffle through eir music library. Inspired by Vinny's noise on the Roid, ey surfs through different planets' versions of hardcore. Oddly calmed by the heavy riffs, hard beats, and shouted vocals, M starts to put together a physical shell. Easier to deal with corporeals when they think you're one of them. Once that's done, ey joins the others on the bridge.
Grizzelblak wrote:"Folks, we are about 25,000 kilometers from Geo and you can make way to the shuttle to land. It is near mid day on Geo right now. Would you like me to announce our arrival to our would-be employers?"
"Notify the spaceport that we'll be sending a shuttle down," MOD replies. "Standard protocol et cetera sirrah sirrah, whatever that be. Don't need to notify Ortiz that we're around."
Phara Vin wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 2:50 pm"I dunno. Could be fun to surprise. Imagine if we catch them in some sorta double-cross deal. Would be a mighty fine excuse to shoot 'em up."
"Heh," MOD is amused by the idea but, "I like the spirit. But we're just doing some shopping. Easier to keep a low profile, neh?"

"Fun is getting to listen all 12 hours of DJ Splyncatha the Teenage DJ's newest mixtape without interruption," MOD replies sharply. "We make a big fuxing entrance, then Ortiz is going to have someone watch out every fuxing move. Do you want Ortiz to look up how much explosives you're buying? I mean, maybe she's already doing that, but let's just do our shopping in peace."

And sure enough, asking for things to be easy invokes another crisis. The pleasurer requests entrance on the bridge.
Grizzelblak wrote:"Why can't I see her?"
"Huh, not sure," MOD's voice trails off. "Like she doesn't appear on your cameras? Or you can't sense her at all?" No time to ponder that, tho. Gotta decide what to do in the immediate.
Phara Vin wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 2:50 pm"Open it and see what's going on, MOD? Kinda weird with our ship-pal not being able to see them."
"Yeah," ey nods. "Vin, keep your hand on your weapon, just in case this is a hijacking. Grizz open the door."

Once the pleasurer walks in, MOD scans them carefully, seeing if they don't appear on certain parts of the spectrum or give off an odd heat signature. Ey even even reads their surface thoughts. "What can we do for you?" MOD asks politely.

Bert sits in the chair that constitutes engineering, but given there's nothing for him to do, he's half asleep and day dreaming of future projects. Still need to sit down and build the holo-helm for the Altess lady who not only paid him, but... Bert chuckles to himself at the pleasant, and naughty memory. I guess at Geo, I can grab some more parts... and a few cases of booze... it's hard to be sober around these wackos. Bert thinks morosely.

When the call about the CAF officer wanting to meet in the cockpit comes through, Bert is paying little attention, even going so far to not really here what else is going on, as he continues to relax. I hope we can land soon. Bert thinks.
They call me The Machine.

Dr. White opens his eyes to see a mass of silvery tentacles retracting from his head. Looking up, he sees the black orb gyrating, as if fighting the encroachment of the silver tentacles. In the place of the dogs was a large blob of liquid metal with parts of the dogs legs still visible. As the tentacles tighten, the black orb shakes more and more violently. The room is much warmer than he remembered. Looking over to his patients, the Seljuk transforms into a crystalline being while holding out his palm, where as the pleasurer is shrieking in fright. Screaming "Kill It! Kill it!", she suddenly disappears. The door way of the laboratory opens briefly, and then closes behind it

The Seljuk turns to Dr. White and asks "Do I shoot the black thing or the metal bits?"

People on the bridge:

The door to the bridge opens, revealing the pleasurer from the Rain of Death transport, clad in only a medical gown. She is obviously distressed, holding her head in pain. She proclaims loudly:

"THERE IS A PSYCHIC MONSTER ONBOARD IN THE LAB AND IT WILL EAT EVERYTHING IF WE DON'T KILL IT!!!!"

Ashrak winces at the shrieking call from the Pleasurer and scowls. "I thought pleasurers were supposed to be fun to be around." Ashrak curses under his breathe before looking towards MOD then back to the Pleasurer. "Please, Myrtle. I am no where near the lab and Zilch is right here too." Ashrak purrs playfully before rolling his eyes. "Ugh, always something with you bipedals." Ashrak mutters as he starts floating towards the lab from the bridge. "Fine, fine! Let's go. Zilch, wanna eat whatever it is before it eats us? I'll make more explosive cookies." Ashrak coos as he floats on, beckoning MOD, Zilch and whomever else is on the bridge to follow him to the Lab. He pauses and looks at the Pleasurer he's named Myrtle. "Oh, you're coming too pookums. Maybe Vinney or Bert can stay on the Bridge." Ashrak suggests, ushering Myrtle along with him.

On approach to the Lab, Ashrak readies himself by activating a couple psionic abilities to augment him for whatever is happening in the Good Doctor's lab. Mm, a psionic monster might like to manipulate the psionics of others. Yes, First I will make myself immune to such effects, then mask my aura. I imagine my mind's eye might be helpful too. Ashrak coos internally, activating his Mind's Eye, Mask Psionics and Immunity to Bio-Manipulation. Those who follow Ashrak will also see a rather large and ethereal blade seem to extend from his coiled tail so it hangs over Ashrak's right shoulder like a stinger. When Ashrak gets to the lab, he will knock on the door before opening it while one of his tentacles recovers his Beamer. "Oh, good Doctor, we heard there was a monster in the lab, I presume they didn't mean you?" Ashrak calls through the door before opening it. If/when Ashrak sees the monster, the tentacle alien with blink and try to I.D. the monster in the moments before the fight. "Mm, beautiful. Surely we can be friends." Ashrak coos towards the silvery tentacles and black orb. Ashrak will stay behind Zilch when and if combat breaks out.

If/When combat breaks out, the first thing Ashrak tries is to reach out and force it to lose consciousness with Death Grip. If that fails, Ashrak tries to turn off the orb thing with Electrokinesis. If neither of those work, Ashrak unloads with his Phase Beamer.

Bert looks to the screaming woman. Never a simple day. Bert says as he grabs his helmet and puts it on. The comforting array of tactical sensor information flashes to life as The Machine takes over. The Machine is already grabbing his pistol and rushing to the Medbay to deal with whatever monstrosity Dr. White has birthed. "The Machine is inbound." The Machine radios as he either leads or follows Ashrak. Once the beastie is in sight The Machine wastes no time and just starts shooting at it.

"Oh for fux sake," MOD mutters. Refrain of the day, neh? "Go do some violent things to the threat in the med bay." MOD waves as Ashrak floats off. Ey then looks over to Vinny, "I suppose you want to shoot stuff too, neh?"

Once the other Reavers has dashed off ey is standing alone on the bridge. "Grizz, hold of contacting Geo until we got things secure here." Ey waits, idly for a good five seconds, glancing all around the bridge. Then finally ey says, "Grizz, you're good with the bridge unattended, neh?"

Presuming that Grizz says yes, MOD dashes down the hallway shouting with eir augmented voice, "WAIT FOR ME!"

Phara Vin barks a short laugh at the pleasurer's frantic exclamation, lowering her weapon ever so slightly. "Have we ever had a ship we didn't have to eradicate an invader from less than a month after getting it?" Despite her normally less-than-patient nature, some old soldier-y instinct in her holds her back as she glances to MOD as the others run off immediately. Give it a tic to at least make sure this isn't some sorta ploy by her.

The Atlantean grins widely, and gives a dangerous chuckle. "Always." Once given permission to run off, she does so, turning briefly to the one who warned them. "What's this thing look like?" she asks quickly. Then once she's got her answer, "Don't mess with shit on the bridge," she says in way of thanks for the warning. At least she gives a slight nod as some form as real thanks. With that, she dashes off as fast as she can reasonably get away. with in the ship.

As she runs, she pops off her helmet to touch a hand to her temple, the tattoo of a chained up brain glowing (-25 P.P.E.), only briefly visible before she jams the power armor's helmet back on, readying her rifle and her armor's vibro-sword. Skidding to a halt in front of the medical bay, she pushes in and levels her Volcano Rifle at the first thing she deems a threat, before shifting it to the horrific 'psychic monster.' Zilch pauses in his tracks, his googly eyes swiveling towards the distressed figure. "Oh sure," he mutters, a hint of annoyance in his voice, "just because it's a monster it needs to be killed." He looks the pleasurer up and down dubiously. "If anyone is going to eat everything here, it'll be me, thank you very much."

As the other Reavers, spurred by the pleasurer's alarm, rush off towards the lab, weapons drawn, Zilch rolls his googly eyes dramatically. "Fine!" he exclaims with a frustrated huff.

With a sudden burst of shadow energy, he propels himself through the corridors, a blue, furry blur. He bursts into his room, snatches his cosmic stabby thing – and the cleaver-like weapon hums faintly in his grasp – and then he's off, flying rapidly towards the lab, ready to defend his title as the sole devourer of all things edible (and some inedible) aboard.

White blinks furiously and shakes the cobwebs clear of his mind as the silvery tentacles withdraw the whatever it is from his mind. Well that was different. Oooo, it’s fighting back somehow! He will stare, rapt, for a few seconds before the pleasurer’s freakout startles him back to reality. He observes nonchalantly as she leaves, then turns back to the Seljuk as he realizes that the fellow is addressing him. White pauses then, genuinely torn, before he sighs and says in a resigned tone ”Oh, shoot the black thing. Just be careful your line of fire is clear of lab equipment- I’m pretty sure guns won’t do much against that thing.” Regardless White continues to ponder the situation even as the others start filing in in response to the pleasurer’s alarm. ”Oh, hi everybody! My new nanite friends pulled that out of my mind. Truly fascinating stuff don’t you think? I wish we could preserve it for study, but it’d probably be too difficult to stop it from breaking loose. Have at it if you like!” White, for his part, doesn’t move to attack. If all of the others’ conventional attacks pass through it, White will try imprisoning the psychic monster (and, if necessary, the nanite-tentacles with which it is grappling) in a telekinetic force field. Otherwise, he’ll just steel himself and try to get a glimpse of its surface thoughts (or failing that, emotions). If only to confirm the pleasurer’s statement. Physically White will just play defensive until he can figure out what they’re dealing with.

Post by Nurse Ratchet »

Ashrak arrives first, fully buffed.

Action 1:
The Orb flickers quickly, shooting a tentacle at the general direction of Ashrak, only to be carefully parried away.
Ashrak tries to apply his psionic powers to it, but just as he is insivisble to it, it seems almost impervious to his mind based attacks. (0)
Bert arrives next and shoots the orb with the Fire Shard Pistol. The first shot hits it dead center and it momentarily flinches. (-11)
Dr. White sees Bert's attack hit true and decides not to apply the force field. Instead, as he attempts communicate to the black mass, he realizes that the black mass is already hostile to his team mates and moves. Attacking the black sphere with a phase power seems to do relatively nothing to the being as it seems to have profound mental constitution. (0)
Vinny is still out in the hall way activating her Armor of Ithan spell, while Zilch is retrieving his weapon. MOD is on the bridge tending to Grizz and comms. (0)

Action 2:
The black sphere this time tries to blind Ashrak with a psionic, but Ashrak saves easily (using JIC).
Ashrak tries to turn off the orb, but realizes that the orb is entirely organic. (0)
Bert Shoots the orb and it absorbs the damage, shuddering this time a bit. (-12)
Dr. White decides to dodge out of the way, hiding behind some furniture. (0)
Meanwhile, Vinny hurls herself at the black orb and slashes it. The physical attack passes through without doing any damage. (0)
Zilch finally arrives at the mouth of the lab. Meanwhile MOD is still deliberating with Grizz on what to say to Geo. (0)

Action 3:
The black sphere now sees multiple targets and tries to possess Zilch. It latches onto Zilch but Zilch fights it off. (Zilch suffers -4 to strike/parry/dodge this round and loses two actions while suffering a loud dull headache)
Ashrak fires his phase beamer at the thing and boy do all of you hear a psychic shriek of pain (except for Zilch, who is closed to psionics)
Bert fires his fire shard pistol and hits it dead in the center. (-15)
Dr. White's attempts to read its surface thoughts can only extract a mixture of fear, rage and pain. Nothing cogent can be discerned, as the thing is fighting for its life.
Vinny's continual slashes yield nothing as it passes through without doing any damage. ( 0 )
MOD is still missing. (0)
Zilch angrily wacks this thing in the center. (-55)

Action 4:
The black sphere is morphing its shape and growing bigger. It's doubled in size and generated a small force field around it.
Ashrak fires his phase beamer and the force field shrinks visibly. (-18)
Bert shoots the orb again and the force field all but disappears. (-12)
Dr. White's attempts to read its surface thoughts yields a state of panic. Deciding to stay ephemerial means it cannot cast its forcefields, but if it becomes a solid being in this dimension it will not be able to attempt possess anything or anyone.
Vinny finally unfurls her volcano rifle and shoots it at the sphere. This strike blows the force field entirely away.
Zilch takes another swing at this thing (-53).

The black orb is now audibly yelping vocally.

Action 5:
The black Orb moves to a different side of the room, trying to hide behind the transformed Seljuk. It casts the force field again.
The Seljuk wakes from his stupor and dives towards the exit of the door.
Ashrak fires his phase beamer and the force field shrinks visibly. (-15)
Bert shoots the orb again and the force field all but disappears. (-15)
Dr. White's attempts to read its surface thoughts yields a state of panic. It is in full on panic. It's forcefield is already reduced by half.
As Vinny lowers her rifle, Zilch comes in and shatters the force field with one blow, knocking the orb to the ground (-80 MDC)

Action 6:
The black orb tries to escape the lab room, following the seljuk. However, the nanites have finally figured out how to mesh into a physical form again. Silver tentacles dash out, wrapping the black orb as it tries to flee. The seljuk turns around and starts shooting at the orb with energy beams from its hands. Bert is out of actions but Ashrak keeps on firing, as Vinny and Zilch move in for physical attacks. All the hits connect as the orb is entangled and unable to dodge. The Orb is starting to get dimmer.

Action 7:
The black orb thrashes about as the tentacles around it grow thicker while it grows weaker. Ashrak fires one more round, as does Vinny. Both shots connect and the Zilch comes in with the coup de grace, puncturing the orb with the naginata.

What remains of the orb is pulled into the silver nanites. The silver nanites retreat out of the lab and retract itself back into its aquarium. As it pulls the black org into its mass, the black orb tries to flee once more, but its flails amount to little more than ripples in the dense silver liquid. Dr. White feels the evil presence slowly getting snuffed out by a vice, both psychically and physically. He is relieved to find that he is giddy from the spectacle and felt no sense of empathy towards the pain of a sentient being.

MOD finally arrives at the end of the fight. The lab has a few weapons burns but no equipment seems to be damaged. It was also miraculous that none of the Reavers missed their shots today. However, there remains the Seljuk and Pleasurer, and they are seeking asylum as they are modified specimens of weaponry that are to be demoed by representatives of Mungus to warlords. Rather than strike out on their own with no equipment and no funds, they would rather cool their feet and work their keep on the Asteriod.

At this point, Grizzelblak announces that they can be at Geo in the next hour. She asks everyone to come back to the bridge to strap in so she can cast the right spell and be on their way.

What are you intentions?

What an imposter! I'm the dark scary one, not this little black ball!

Zilch snarls, a primal sound tearing from his throat, and the room darkens subtly as an unconscious wave of his darkness power washes over the lighting. He brings his cosmic naginata down with mighty force, and the brutal thrust ends the fight.

He watches curiously as the remains of the black orb is swiftly drawn into the mass of silver nanites, which then retreat into their aquarium.

As the fight concludes Zilch notices MOD floating in. With the threat gone, Zilch switches to his usual chirpy demeanor, turns to the orb of energy. "Oh, MOD!" he exclaims cordially, gesturing with his cosmic naginata towards the dissipating darkness. "Just a weird dark orbish thing. All splattered now." He tilts his head, his googly eyes wide with curiosity left and right.

JiC 1d20: [13] = 13 / 1d100: [85] = 85

Stuff
Physical shell: Marriot Oberton Damon (the Mod)

MOD is the last one into Doctor White's lab. The scene is, in its own way, just as gruesome as when the Doctor was cooking up parts of the Oracle for the rest of the crew. The carnage is more restrained, less splatter all over the walls, but the violence implied in the mess is just as intense. And there's the little black orb being dragged away by nanites; it has a sinister aura that reminds MOD of the Roid's original owner. Yeah, we're not going to think about that guy any more than we need to.

"Oh, for fux sake," ey mutters scanning the lab. "It's dead, neh? Whatever the fux that thing was it's dead dead? What the fux was that thing anyway?"

Ey listens to whatever explanation with astonishment. "Srsly? Never a dull moment with us, neh?"

Ey shrugs and is ready to move back to the bridge, "Grizz said that we're approaching Geo. Let's get ready to go planetside."

After he says this, the pleasurer and seljuk say that they want to stay with the Reavers. MOD is confused, as ey had lost track of who exactly they had rescued from the slavers, let alone who wanted to return to Geo. "Wait, really? You don't wanna go planetside with us then?" MOD asks. After they confirm this, ey follows up, "So why the fux are you on board the ship then?"

Ey listens to their explanation, nodding as ey can understand their situation. Ey was a test subject for the Naruni and respects their need to lay low. "I guess that makes you members of the Void Reavers then. You'll be staff/residents of the Roid. Your job will be to mind the place - protect it from invaders while we're on mission and help us with its general upkeep. If you're ok with that, Bert can get you set up when we get back to base. Sound peachy?"

How did we end up with a permanent staff for the Roid? I just can't stop picking up strays, neh? I'm really shitty at being anti-social. I'll need to do something about that later, like listen Death Gripes until I scare off everyone.

Ey shrugs and heads back to the bridge. Once there, with all the Reavers assembled ey says, "Ok, two questions. First of all, how do we want to go down to Geo? Do we have the shuttle for a discrete landing? Will that hold all the stuff you guys want to buy?"

"Secondly, who is going down to Geo? I mean, aside from us. I thought all the passengers on board were going to settle down there, but these two just told me they're staying. (So now they're part of the team, I guess. Bert you'll need to give them their orientation when we return to the Roid.) So who else are we taking down with us?"

Vinny laughs, lowering her Volcano Rifle as steam wafts out the barrel. "And that's it, hah!" She shoulders the weapon, looking to MOD as ey arrives. And here ey comes, late for the party. Least ey isn't trying to kill me with shuttle piloting this time around.
MOD wrote:"Oh, for fux sake," ey mutters scanning the lab. "It's dead, neh? Whatever the fux that thing was it's dead dead? What the fux was that thing anyway?"
"Oh, very," Vera replies with an unseen grin. "Sword did jack all to it, but this baby," she pats her trusty Volcano Rifle, "Helped clean it up real nice. Oh, and everyone else helped too," she adds. "Thing wasn't all that dangerous. Feels like a waste of a tattoo I used." She doesn't sound very upset, though, as she strolls out of the room. When the Seljuk and the Pleasurer request to stay, Phara eyes MOD for eir reaction before responding, "Sounds good with me too, boss. Maybe I can get one of them to get my room set up so Machine-y can stop being so whiny."

"That wolfen staying on the 'Roid, right?" she asks. At the confirmation, she shrugs. "Might just be a Reaver party, then. I won't complain, don't gotta escort non-combatants or whatever." She gives the Seljuk a grin. "Though you shot up the death-orb thing pretty good." Returning her attention back to MOD, "Anyways, I'm ready to go whenever and not shoot anyone, I guess." She narrows her eyes, considering. "Dibs on killing any talkative projectors, though."

White follows the firefight through the lab, taking care to prioritize his own safety. His eyes are wide and his lips are pursed as he savors the ecstasy of the orb’s fear, blossoming into panic, and finally death (or at least ending). I wonder if that’s what death is like. How exquisite. White is off in his own little world for a few moments after the orb vanishes (is consumed?), but he comes to with a bit of a shake after that. Peering down at the nanites, he approaches them and speaks gently (and telepathically if there is no response to his words), ”Uhm, are… are you all alright in there?” Assuming the answer is not firmly in the negative, White will heave a sigh of relief (and perhaps, slight loss) and say ”Well… I guess that’s that. Funny, I don’t feel that much different. Well, on with the mission, shall we?” With a smile and a light step, White will strut up to the bridge and strap himself into a station.

White coughs awkwardly. ”Well, y’see Cap’n- back when I was a creche Promethean there was this Rift in Center. Bert shrugs at the question. "No idea." Bert says as he makes his way back to the bridge, once again plopping his armored butt into the engineering stations seat. Bert is already preparing to try and nap once more when everyone else makes it back and the questions start flowing.
MOD wrote:"Ok, two questions. First of all, how do we want to go down to Geo? Do we have the shuttle for a discrete landing? Will that hold all the stuff you guys want to buy?"
Bert looks up. "Are we really worried about hiding Grizz... or is she worried about being seen? If not I'd say just land... If there's an issue we can take the shuttle I suppose." Bert says.

"I was planning on going down, I have a shopping list of things to get." Bert starts. Bert looks to the two passengers. Why me? Bert thinks, before opening his mouth. "Sure I'll figure something out, I guess." Bert says looking at them once more.

"Do you two have names, and do you have anything resembling skills that may be useful on a ship or space station?" Bert asks of the two.

Ashrak squeals happily as the the thing is successfully quelled, floating over to it and looking at it. "Hmm, what a waste." Ashrak practically purrs before floating away and following the others as they head down to Geo. Ashrak follows along, listening to MOD as it lays out the conditions for joining the Reavers, nodding along. Yes, yes, I hope they like scrubbing toilets. Ashrak considers mercilessly, all the while only smiling along.
MOD wrote:"Ok, two questions. First of all, how do we want to go down to Geo? Do we have the shuttle for a discrete landing? Will that hold all the stuff you guys want to buy?"
When MOD has the rest of the Reavers circle up with its questioning, Ashrak looks around and nods in agreement to Bert. "I agree with the Machine. Why not let our presence be known? These two deck hands can serve as guards of the ship while we go shopping." Ashrak purrs with a smile.
MOD wrote:"Secondly, who is going down to Geo? I mean, aside from us. I thought all the passengers on board were going to settle down there, but these two just told me they're staying. (So now they're part of the team, I guess. Bert you'll need to give them their orientation when we return to the Roid.) So who else are we taking down with us?
Ashrak nods in agreement. "I am also going and I can get working on a more... cemented opportunity for us. Mm, in fact, on our approach, I have something I want to pitch you, boss-thing. Privately." Ashrak coos as they approach Geo.

If MOD follows him, Ashrak will lead him to a conference or equivilant planning room on the ship and coil in the air to face him. "Alright you floating ball of brilliance, shine your ray towards this little idea of mine. That needs your support." Ashrak says then will clasp his tentacles together, one pair at a time, across his chest before beginning.

"The Freelance Shipping Redistributors is a most honorable business that offers the most secure and discrete transportation of valued or personal belongings or patrons. For a simple and non-negotiable fee, the FSR guarantees timely and safe delivery no matter the risks. The FSR does require a shipping manifest be submitted and approved before any such transportation is done. This is both to ensure the entirety of your shipment arrives together, and to facility any issues that may arise during transport. The FSR does not keep records of past transports as to not infringe on our patrons' privacy. Please contact us know with what you need delivered and where, and let us help you!" Ashrak says in a performative voice.

Ashrak clears his throat then floats over to MO "Mm, sounds good, right? Good sales pitch, no? Oh, of course you agree. It is but a cover, the mask of a legitimate business to hide an illegitimate one, something to keep the narks from looking too close. A good investment. We have two ships already at our disposal with the right price, and that number will grow as my smuggling influence expands. But we are not slavers, no, no, no. In fact, the opposite. Our specialty is recovering and returning captured slaves of high station back to their home. Also moving special or dangerous goods. You know, the kind of thing the Consortium would go to war over. It is this... vision I want to bring to this corner of the Three Galaxies, and soon, beyond." Ashrak explains to the local black market kingpin.

"I don't mean to step on the toes of any local smugglers we may find. No, no. Instead, I would privatize them. Use the existing manpower of skilled pilots who are always looking for work, and lock them down with increased profits and contract security. Orchestrate the greatest symphony of freelance ships moving the black market goods between sectors, passed enemy lines. From personnel to material to stock, I will see this endeavor expand to every corner of these fair galaxies. And the best part is, establishing ourselves as a legitimate delivery service is so overt, it is covert. Create an entire faux financial report and manifest, have legitimate outlets at various ports serving as a front." Ashrak continues, then his six tentacles coil together.

"So, jefe, what do you think? First impressions? I want to pitch this to the local kingpin..." Ashrak coos at the end of his pitch to MOD.

Regarding what the fux was in Doctor White's head:

Anyway, after that I developed an interest in medicine and decided to become a scientist. Crazy coincidence, huh?"
That's that, neh?" M cocks eir head to the side and looks the Doctor up and down. So a monster in his brain made him... Ey can't even fathom how to finish that thought or wrap eir head around whatever wrapped itself around the Doctor's. "So... does that mean you're not insane anymore? ey asks optimistically. Realizing eir lack of tact, ey corrects, sort of, "Well maybe not insane. But like, do you still want to vivisect two of every corporeal?"

Reading how they should go to Geo:
The Machine wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 6:10 pm"Are we really worried about hiding Grizz... or is she worried about being seen? If not I'd say just land... If there's an issue we can take the shuttle I suppose."
"You know," ey starts, "I kinda assumed that. Maybe I should ask how she feels on the matter."
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"I agree with the Machine. Why not let our presence be known? These two deck hands can serve as guards of the ship while we go shopping."
"Grizz aside," MOD explains, "I want to stay anonymous. The Void Reavers don't have a great reputation: more enemies than friends, several bounties including a 'kill only' order from the Naruni. I don't need to be dragging that into every star system I land on. And besides, how are we supposed to do our quasi-legal business when the officials are tracking our every move?"

Ey then looks up at the ceiling of the bridge and shouts (in eir inside voice), "Yo Grizz. How do you feel about going down to Geo? Yea? Neh?"

Regarding who is going to Geo:
Phara Vin wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 2:40 pm"Anyways, I'm ready to go whenever and not shoot anyone, I guess. Dibs on killing any talkative projectors, though."
"No shooting, maybe killing," M nods. "I'm fine with that. Ortiz prolly will be too."
The Machine wrote: Tue May 06, 2025 6:10 pm"I was planning on going down, I have a shopping list of things to get."
"Sounds good. We can on board the new recruits when we go back on board the Roid."

And then Ashrak makes his business proposal. MOD listens with a healthy dose of skepticism. There's a catch here. He only gets this excited when he's doing something underhanded and destructive. But ey can't disagree with any part of the business. It's hyperbolic for sure, but ey expects that from Ashrak. Ey just doesn't know what the catch is.
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"Mm, sounds good, right? Good sales pitch, no?"
"I dunno..." ey says stalling to commit.
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"Oh, of course you agree. It is but a cover, the mask of a legitimate business to hide an illegitimate one... returning captured slaves of high station back to their home."
MOD almost blushes. "Now that sounds like a fun and profitable fun use of our time."
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"Also moving special or dangerous goods. You know, the kind of thing the Consortium would go to war over. It is this... vision I want to bring to this corner of the Three Galaxies, and soon, beyond."
Of course, that's the catch. MOD nods. "So you want to horn in on the local underworld racket here..."
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"I don't mean to step on the toes of any local smugglers we may find. No, no. Instead, I would... have legitimate outlets at various ports serving as a front."
The moment that Ashrak starts to explain the convoluted series of fronts he wants to establish he has lost MOD. Ey's a simple phantom that has absolute zero ambitions beyond following Carly Slay on tour. But that was before ey ended up with the Reavers, taking over the group, setting up shop in the Roid, and all the other fuxing responsibilities in eir life. Ey is about to shut down the whole thing when Ashrak finally asks, but then...
Ashrak wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 10:36 pm"So, jefe, what do you think? First impressions? I want to pitch this to the local kingpin..."
"Local kingpin?" MOD asks, trying to sort this all out. "I mean, if this is a business deal between you and some other scumbag, yeah, sounds like a reasonable pitch. Totally. But just remember, the Void Reavers are not a front for your burgeoning criminal empire, neh? If you ever try to turn us into your employees I'll snuff you out faster than the last two captains of the Reavers. I'm not going to be left holding the bag while you're getting rich. That being said, you find us some lucrative jobs and can get some side hussle going, I won't object."

Grizz pipes up.

"Going Planetside? I haven't been on a planet in almost five years! When we land, do I have to stay at the space port? Can we go explore the planet later?"

"Alright alright, could we at least explore the planet after you are done running your errands? I haven't bathed in the sea in soooo long...."

Grizz sets a course to Geo, this time plotting to land herself at the space port. The trip takes a few hours. Grizz makes no effort at concealment, but none of the other ships within sensor range seem to take any interest in her.

Once she lands on the space port however, the attention of every sentient in the vicinity pans to her. Nobody has seen anything quite like her.

Ortiz hails the crew as VR are getting ready to depart. Meanwhile, the CAF Officer cooperates fully as MOD and co travel to the office complex at the space port to meet Ortiz. The remaining two of the crew stay behind.

Based on information previously obtained, Ashrak has the comm channel of a local open radio band that the local black market representative is known to listen on. The person he wishes to contact is Grek. He is described to be human in appearance with a jaded and superior attitude. He is rumoured to have a finer taste for the finer things.

Grizz bids you all farewell. Those that have decided to depart the ship have made your way inside of Ortiz's office.

Ortiz looks upon the CAF trooper and then eyes MOD a side eye:

"Hrmn... I didn't know the Consortium took an interest in these parts. No matter. I will arrange for her safe transport back to her world. Let me see if there is a reward for her recovery..."

"Hrmn... It seems like Captain Hendriksson here is worth 80k credits. Here you go folks. Don't spend it all at once."

Ortiz waits for an update per the bounties and investigations tasked to VR, but if the crew are less than forthcoming, they will be ushered outside the office where the rest of the errands can be conducted.

What are your intentions?

Who says pirates need to be scary. Our actions can be scary while our name provides a false of security. OH! How about Cackling Corsairs?!" Ashrak ponders playfully and fully expecting his first idea to be ignored or shot down with brutal speed. Not always so fun, are they? Ashrak considers internally.
MOD wrote:"I mean, if this is a business deal between you and some other scumbag, yeah, sounds like a reasonable pitch.
Ashrak waves off MOD's threat with an apathetic wave of a tentacle as he giggles with glee. "Employees, never! You are all esteemed partners. And yes, I do want a slice of the local black market to belong to us. It is an excellent way to move credits, profit, information. I might ask others presence for certain... engagements for both security and negotiation tactics, but my plan is so much larger than us doing the work." Ashrak explains with a smile. "Your names needn't be known, your connection an enigma. Falsify one if you wish. And, as an added cherry of your support, dear captain, I will provide you with veto rights over any contract you deem too... questionable. Does that sound fair?" Ashrak coos towards MOD with a twisted smirk. Maybe Ashrak is trying to appear playful... eye of the beholder.

Once on Geo, Ashrak will take stock on what he knows about this potential contact. A bipedal who enjoys finer things. What does that mean to him? Slaves? Food? These bipedals are so odd looking things to boot. Ashrak considers. Ashrak will consider two routes to find Grek. Either Ashrak will determine how best to drop a subtle comment over the radio channel, or investigate some of the finer establishments. Ugh, one takes far more time than the other. I suppose I will see if I can't drop a line... Hmm, maybe I can have the band do it for me. Ashrak considers with twisted grin, mentally stretching his mind to influence some drugged out musician. Ashrak will inform MOD and the others of his plans over their radio. "I need to find this Grek. Oh Captain, can you pirate broadcast on any standing radio channel? I know a channel he listens too. Perhaps you can subtly mention "Grek" "Contract" and... hmm. what's one of the better restaurants frequented by bipedals here? That place." Ashrak asks MOD.
Ash, your friendly, local, floating, tentacle monster
