Tyral looks up somewhat bemused by Howe's relation of the potential return based on their having 8 party members, **Wrong side of the equation human, There are 10 lost miners ... The number of Miners recovered is the primary factor for recovery, not number of folk handling retrieval.**

The Wizard offers a glance to Trask for confirmation before nodding his own head, "I believe Trask there already affirmed intent to accept the task. Now what can you tell us about these missing Miners??? Are they all humans? If not, what is that group's makeup? Do they have any magic users with them? ... Is there some symbol? Or badge of Guild-authority? Something we can show to confirm that says 'Approved-Non-Mining-Rescue-Folks'. I have a couple spells that may be used to try and track people, but just sending us in to find 10 unknown Miners is not enough ... Can we get a roster of names, and a sketch for each (or even a few personal items ... boots or whatever)?"

Though the Wizard muses internally, **Miners are generally underground for 7-12 days, the Party is 2 days overdue for return to the surface, and they 'require miners have at least 14 days worth of food'?? ... If there are creatures beneath the ground, that little policy sounds like one that will make all the surface groups ripe for hunting themselves. Not that this lot will want to hear that.**

Barring some basis for not doing so, Tyral reviews the terms [Literacy: Elven 102% // Literacy: Human Eastern 102%] then takes the offered pen signs his name with a flourish.

Before departing down into the Mine, the Wizard will make sure that at least 1 trip back to their Keep is made in order to: 1) give Granas the heads-up on what their proverbial task is, 2) to make sure that Tyral has himself well and comprehensively studied the layout of 1 of the rooms 1 of the rooms is kept clear and empty [Target room for Teleporting], and 3) try to convince Granas to assist with Sustaining the Party before they enter the subterranean darkness (donate sufficient PPE that Tyral can cast Sustain on everyone + Brago (7+1=8*12=96 PPE from Granas??)).

Brago

Brago stretches and yawns a set of teeth capable of dragging down an Elk before rising to put his head up onto the table itself to eyeball the assembled.

Khorv is reassured when they are informed that basic rations will be supplied. Take what you can get. Not a lot of gold to go around, but nice I am also getting paid for this.

He holds a hand up to interrupt while Howe is speaking, “To clarify, ‘remove anything from the mine’ is anything that is guild property, ore, etc, correct? I mean, if we get items from a monster or raider, that is ok.”

When Trask takes the map to look it over Khorv stays close. Guild gave it to me and that is the one value I have to this team. Besides, if we get separated I want to be the one with the map./

Flora glances at her axe. Who gives a snot about a badge? Just show them an axe and look at them real serious. Nothing says 'Approved-Non-Mining-Rescue-Folks' better than a really sharp axe, especially once you start swinging it around! What's a badge got that an axe doesn't? Elves complicate everything. Knowing about any magic users is clever though, gotta know which face to throw the axe into first. HA! Oh wait he's talking about the miners who need saving, not miners who are stupid about giving us trouble.

She thinks back to what the human was saying earlier....
Lord Byron Howe wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:51 pm"Normally, land around Adriana is able to be rented at a cost. However, instead of charging you we have come up with a compromise." He pauses and looks to the dwarf in the center who nods for him to continue.
Forgot his name. What was it again? Lord Cow? Lord Barrow Cow I think. Who cares, he said instead. Instead of rent. INSTEAD. That's what the fluffer said.

And the young pointy eared elf also speaks up.

Flora leans forward, her eyes glinting with a predatory intensity. "We'll find to find these miners, and let's get this straight," she says, her voice direct. "Two things. One: this job is instead of any rent for the keep's land. You said so yourself, "Instead of charging you rent, this compromise". Two: if we find any monsters down there – demons, dragons, whatever – and we snuff them, the loot belongs to the ones who snuffed it. Anyone who wants monster loot, you can come down with us for the fun. Get that in your contract, and deal's on."

She pauses, and her gaze sweeps across the room. She's in no more mood for haggling. "Right," Flora says, her voice in a tone signalling finality. "I'll be outside. Sharpening my axes. You lot work out the fancy words." She turns and strides out of the room.

Outside she listens intently to everything being said in the room. Her hunter's ears are keen indeed.

Zeph Looks on as the finer details are hammered out with the contract. Only children would require such detailed accounting. And only in dealing with children would it be needed to go into such exacting detail. Such a shame. I'm sure one day they'll learn. Interesting thought though. What would they have done if we had returned with spoils not listed in the contract? Would they have made a fuss like a child or would they have been mature about it and allowed us to keep the spoils of our victories over adversity. Zeph watches Flora depart the meeting, Lots of fire in that one. She speaks her mind no matter the situation. Good trait to have. Zeph does speak to Flora as she's leaving, "Don't sharpen them too much. They'll become brittle." Zeph does forget himself and speaks in his native tongue when addressing Flora.

Wilderness Survival 1d100: [39] = 39 /65% (Estimate how long the miners would be able to extend their supplies in a survival situation)

Zeph really doesn't have much more to add to the meeting. He remains near the back as the meeting continues. He does take the time to look over any maps provided. Zeph does mull over some of the information to himself in the back, "Hmm...14 days of rations. Meaning today is the last of their rations if they did nothing to stretch their supplies. With a cave in or other type of incident they would be able to extend their supplies to at least 18 to 20 days depending on when they realized the need to ration. Fresh water would be the most important. Food is easily stretched. Water is something we all need. We should pack extra on this trip. I wonder if magic could help in that regard. Wish I had more experience with it. Oh well. At least they seem to be using natural caves and caverns. Nice to see a mining outfit work with nature as much as they can." Zeph, talking to himself speaks in his native Wolfen...so it really sounds like he's grunting and growling at the back of the room while he has a thoughtful look on his face.

The Wolfen hadn't cared much nor been able to read the lack of scavenge rights until it was brought up by someone else and is interested in how that is answered once it is brought up. "I'm sure you vouldn't miss anyfing that the dvellers have on dem if we muss take dem out."

"I always have water." He reassures Zephyr when the question of water is raised, "And we have a means of meat."

Trask listens to Lord Howe do his damned best to answer all the questions tossed in his general direction. Trask spares a glance at Tyral once, but goes back to watching the guild officer speak.
Lord Howe wrote:"This is a drafted contract with the stated rates and expectations. Signing it also means you understand you are not to duplicate the map or remove anything from the Mine except the miners and their equipment."

Trask takes the proffered paperwork and looks it over. While Lord Howe continues to talk.
Lord Howe wrote:"2,000g per month for your location without any mining rights."
Trask chuckles. "Not an unreasonable amount, this job covers that in perpetuity, correct?" Trask ask for clarification.
Khorv wrote:“To clarify, ‘remove anything from the mine’ is anything that is guild property, ore, etc, correct? I mean, if we get items from a monster or raider, that is ok.”
Good question. Trask thinks.
Lord Howe wrote:"So, do we have an agreement? We would like this matter resolved as quickly as possible so would like an answer before you leave."
As long as those two points are covered in this contract, I do not see an issue with it." Trask say, looking to the others to see if anyone has any reservations or additions. If not, and the Contract is as asked, Trask signs his name to it, if not he waits for revisions or explanations as to why not.

Daskyn doesn’t have a visible reaction to the closed off minds of the dwarves at the table. Hmm, curious. It is most likely they each have some sort of item preventing their mind from being read. And the human doesn’t have one, so he is not their equal. They use him to interact with other humans and elves, and he doesn’t seem happy about it. Internal strife? Daskyn considers quietly as the conversation continues.

Daskyn will study the map as he listens in, running his fingers across the edges as if gauging the quality of the scroll. Hmm, if we aren’t allowed to copy this it means it is important. It could have some strong impressions on it. Daskyn considers but stops, waiting before reading the object. Not here. When I have a few minutes to focus. Daskyn states in his head.

Daskyn listens to the questions from the others, momentarily glad to be in such a large group doing most of the talking. They have good questions Daskyn ponders, looking between Tyral and the new elf, Khorv. After the final questions are asked, Daskyn nods in agreement to Trask. “I have nothing to add and will likely accept once the answers are given.” Daskyn says in the eastern human tongue.

Once they are done with the Mining Guild and leaving, Daskyn will turn towards the others. “I have some psionics that should help them if they are without water and food.” Daskyn says and once they are back at their keep, Daskyn will comment now being out of earshot of the Mining Guild. “It felt as though Lord Howe was displeased with his position within the Mining Guild. Maybe some power struggles. Just… something I felt. Now, I am going to meditate with that map and see if it has any impressions worth our time before we head down into the Mine. We should leave today if we want to help them, yes?” Daskyn asks. Once that is settled, he will take a seat someone where he won’t be kicked and Object Read the map. Lord Howe hears the next round of questions and appears to take them all in order in his head, demonstrating a sharp memory as he answers the questions. "The missing crew was lead by Piotin Aeducan and consisted of four Dwarves, four Humans, an Elf and an Eandroth. The elf is an earth warlock from the local chapter. Upon signing the contract and accepting the task, we will provide each of you with this

. It will identify you as an agent of the Mining Guild Council."
Howe states, pausing for the pin to be taken. "Unfortunately we do not know who may have met this crew. We can provide a sketch of Piotin, but he is the only one we interacted with during registration. This is quite common, we only deal with the foremen of a crew. We can provide a list of names from the lease." Howe states and will provide a list of

How turns to Flora and Khorv. "If you are attacked, you have rights to the aggressors equipment. Anything from the Mine itself is off limits. If you are attacked by a different mining group, please let us know. We would pay additional for their mining equipment and bodies to be returned." Howe states and then nods to Flora. "Accepting and successfully completing this contract will substitute twelve months worth of rent for your Keep. It will not cover any mining rights, but will qualify it for militia support." Howe explains. Zephyr listens in to the conversation and estimates that, if they rationed from day 1, they could comfortably double their time down there. It depends on when they became missing and if they even still have their supplies that will matter most. Howe turns to the Wolfen a little slower than he did towards the others and shakes his head slowly. "Regrettably, no. They do live somewhere in the stacks, but the residential location for mining crews is only registered by foreman. I can tell you where this crew's stack was and you can check for items with scents on it." Howe offers in liue of being able to provide something.
Lord Howe will nod. "The stacks is the residential location of Adrianna, more commonly called the Adriana Stacks or stacks for short. It is a collection of stone structures large enough to house up to twelve people a piece. Designed to allow mining crews a staging area. This area sees a lot of transients and wanderers; we don't track them all." Howe will explain.

Howe turns back to Tyral and nods. "That is all we need your party to retrieve, yes. It would be more costly for us to run a recovery operation. Hiring sellswords is cheaper in this instance, and you happen to be the only known group in the city." Howe adds then turns to Asher. "There are no organized charities or orphanages in Adriana. If you wish to donate to something, you can donate to our Recovery Fund so that in the future, we can support stranded or endangered miners more efficiently." Howe states.

With the series of questions answered to relative satisfaction, Trask takes the contract and signs it for the team (There is room for everyone to sign, but it is not required.) Howe offers a half-bow in appreciation as everyone then departs the Mining Guild. Though time is of the essence, there are some things that can be accomplished before going into the Mine.

When everyone returns to the Keep, Granas greets them. "Sounds like an intriguing time. I will remain here unless you think there is a need for two wizards below." Granas comments, looking to Tyral. Back at the Warfarer's Keep the little barbarian gnome paces impatiently.

Why bother looking going back into the city? That sounds boring.

"Let's get to these mines," she almost growls, her voice rough and impatient. "Let's just go. Treasure—I mean, miners—aren't going to find themselves."

Flora's mind buzzes with a mix of impatience and morbid curiosity. Four dwarves, she wonders at it. Dwarves don't get lost in tunnels. What could have stopped them all? She considers the makeup of the crew. I can see a pointy-eared elf getting turned around in an underground maze, but dwarves? That is just… wrong. And an elf in a dwarven mining crew? That is even weirder. Times have changed, she muses, remembering her home time when elves and dwarves would sooner cleave each other in two than work together. And then there is this "Eandroth" thing.

She has no idea what that was. "What's an Eandroth?" she asks aloud.

Her thoughts quickly turned to the miners' fate. "So what do you think happened to them really? Trapped, maybe?" she muses, tapping her axe against her thigh. "Or dead. Captured by some beast? Gas could have done it. Or lava. Lava's pretty thorough." She grins, her eyes gleaming. It's been so long since I've done anything, I ... can't wait to see this.

She gets imaginative, thinking of bigger and badder horrors. "Maybe they were eaten by giant worms! Or turned into stone by some curse! Or maybe they found a portal to another dimension and got turned inside out!" She chuckles, her voice filled with a strange, chipper enthusiasm. "This is going to be fun!"

A serious hazard is going to be at issue. An attack on an Earth Warlock while underground will be something substantial.**

When Howe mentions 'the Stacks' as potential residence for the lost Mining company, Tyral asks further, receives clarification and nods then reaches down to pat Brago at the shoulder. En route back to their Keep, Tyral and Brago will detour to look for the Barracks/Stack of Piotin Aeducan and company (he is glad to offer up 20-40 gold as needed to grease proverbial wheels).

If he is able to locate a residence for anyone from the Roster of Names, then Tyral will go to the 3-4 of the homes and see about locating: 1) an article of clothing (boots/socks/something), 2) an image (drawing/sketch). **Better to have more than 1 source for potential tracing in case we find they have been split up.**

From there though, the Wizard heads home and checks in with Granas. He does not seek to have the other fellow come along as the Human seems quite happy studying operation of the Keep, and Tyral would not mind puzzling it out himself, but he figures he should go with Trask and the others. In preparation Tyral and Granas will cast Sustain on each willing Party Member(s) and Brago before they all head down into the Mine.

OOC: All, you can add this to each member's Post Conditions: Sustain [10 Days (No Need for Food/Water/Air, 2 hrs Sleep/Night)]

"This spell should let us maximize travel and catch up quicker. It will also stretch what rations we have or need to bring, as ... for a week or so, none of us should need Food or Water. Some sleep will still be needed, but it is a big time saver around camp ... Sorry Brago, no more morning flights to kill birds in the Sky for a while."

Once Daskyn returns from his psychic-sojourn, the Wizard hefts his dimensional bags over 1 shoulder and his staff to affirm he and Brago are ready to depart.

Khorv watches as Daskyn pockets the map and Tyral takes everything else. Going to need to get at least the map back. The only good I am to this team right now is as the ‘official’ guild representative.
Tyral wrote: En route back to their Keep, Tyral and Brago will detour to look for the Barracks/Stack of Piotin Aeducan and company (he is glad to offer up 20-40 gold as needed to grease proverbial wheels).
As the elderly elf turns to head towards the stacks Khorv turns to go with. ”If it is ok with you, my boarding room is in the stacks as well. I can pick up the rest of my gear as we pass through, then follow you to your keep.”

In the Stacks Khorv stays with Tyral and has his elder stay outside the boarding house where he has a room as he picks up his few belongings and checks out. ”Ok. I’m all set. Lead on.”

Khorv expresses his appreciation for both the time with Tyral and the spell. He still loads his full rations into his bag before telling the elf he is ready as well. Great it adds 10 days, but if we end up stuck….

When Daskyn returns to the group Khorv holds out his hand for the map. Attempting a sheepish expression, ”Sorry, the guild said I needed to hold onto the map. Their only copy and such…”

The Wolfen stops himself from just leaving for the stacks as he realizes he does not exactly know where that is and hears more information he might find useful. He goes speaks up for clarification of where he wants to go in the pursuit of a scent he can follow. Once they're ready, he heads for the stacks with those going or alone and hopes he doesn't have to deal with too much reading and bracing himself for the treatment he has more or less come to expect from the smaller, less furry people of this part of the world. He looks at Khorv, mostly understanding what the elf said but doesn't openly remark on anything. And you don't know where the miners stay?

"Vhy vould they only have one copy? He asks Khorv when he says there is only one copy. "I understand the miners vould have one, but vhy is there only one other copy?

(Rolls Carry Over)

Khorv places a friendly hand on the wolfen's shoulder, feeling the soft fur beneath his fingers. Memories of the hounds Airey kept in her living chambers. You cannot pet him...unless he says it is ok.

"Well my tall friend, I don't really know. All I do know is they told the group we can't copy it, it is the only one we get, and they want it returned." Having barely resisted the urge to move his fingers in the fur Khorv removes his hand and shrugs. "I'm just trying to do what they told me when they assigned me to your group."

Zeph continues to listen as the language seems to change from elven to northern. Shit. Now I'm only picking up every like tenth word. And I'm sure it's not right. Well at least one of them is still speaking elven...oh nope there he goes, back into Eastern. I did not think the humans would have variations in their dialects, how do any of them understand the other? Maybe this is what cause them to war amongst themselves so much. Such variations must inevitably lead to misunderstandings.

Zeph signs the contract when its his turn. Nothing more then a scribble on the paper. He then presses the pin into the collar of his shirt visible under his armor. Interesting. I wonder what the spell was that Tyral cast on everyone was?

As they begin moving, Zeph speaks up as he falls in behind everyone, "Excuse me. I just want to say that I do not speak Eastern, so I missed more then half of the conversation back there. I do not want to rehash it, I think I understood enough, but I have a favor to ask. May we speak in Elven from now on? The only human tongue I know is Northern."

Zeph easily keeps pace with the group, despite his smaller stature, as they head out.

The Wizard cocks an eyebrow looking from Trask to Murrischer, then back, **Seriously?? I thought he was quiet, but who comes 1000 miles into the Easten Territory without knowing the language? ... Did Trask know this? Did not see him or the Wolfen translating during the meeting ... He shrugs though and quietly ---in Elven--- responds, "We can speak Elven, assuming we all know it. But Eastern is a tongue you should learn ... Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where people come from and where they are going. Men from all over the world tend to speak primarily in their local language, and coming here without is ... well it is something to work on. I myself am learning Giantese/Troll ... used to know a fellow who like to curse in Troll ... said it gave extra to the meanings. Remember him Brago???"

To which the Wolf responds ---in Elven--, "Ehlric. He was nice when I was pup."

As they walk Tyral ---in Language: Northern Human 97% --- remarks to Zephyr, "I can also speak this, but would be surprised if all could ... and you definitely will find it rare in the Cities this far South unless you are down at some Docks with foreign merchants."

Zeph give a shy smile to Tyral, "Indeed I should. Had I known I would be here I would have made it a priority. Coming from the Northern Wilderness limits the options. The only Human tongue spoke or taught was Northern. Indeed. It was not actually my intention to come here. Being a captive in the magic keep and freed just prior to its arrival here afforded me little choice in the matter. Zeph shrugs.

Zeph smiles at the Wolf as it begins to speak, "A talented familiar. I've seen many Timber Wolves near my home, but this is likely the largest I've seen. You have such a lovely coat too. May I pet you?" He asks the Wolf directly, as he holds out his hand for the wolf to smell. Zeph looks back at Tyral, "Such a loyal friend you have here. I may not know troll, but I can teach you goblin should you wish it." If he lets him Zeph will pet Brago along the back of his head and behind his ears.

Zeph grins as Tyral speaks Northern, "I have noticed it is quite rare for people to speak Northern. I may have been slightly naïve the believe all humans spoke the same language."

Trask's mouth frowns as he hears that, but he stays quiet. So it's really an extra twenty four thousand gold then, not so much in replacement of the rent. We'll have to plan for that eventuality. Trask muses, as the meeting wraps up and the group prepares to leave.

While everyone heads to the Stacks or Keep, Trask heads to the merchant's area to go and purchase a few more sundries. On the trip, the old mercenary muses over the situation, but tries to avoid conjecture. Could be a lot of things, likely fell foul of subterranean creatures, given an Earth Warlock is unlikely to die in a random cave in. We'll see when we get there I suppose. Trask muses.

Once in the shopping district, Trask begins to look for the items he would like to bring with him. While some of what he is looking for is basically trivial, he finds it necessary, while the final item has been one on his list for a while, and would prove very useful on this trip.

Tyral takes the explanation from Zephyr in stride as the little canine indicates he has been a prisoner in the Keep and had not originally chosen to come to Adrianna, **So the Little Wolfe ...
History 86%: 1d100: [12] = 12

With a noncommital shrug the Elf ---in Elven--- remarks to the Kankoran, "Elven is the tongue of scholars. It is known in all lands, but many Men find it to suggest ... pretention, for some reason. So, if you can, the local human tongue is usually safe."

Brago, who outweighs both Tyral and Zephyr turns and pads away ---in Elven--, "Not a pup anymore. Not a Pet."

As they all eventually make their way towards the Mines, Tyral says to Flora, "That is alot of axes. You look like an Axe-ecutioner."

Flora's ears prick up as Zephyr switches from his guttural wolfish yaps to the melodic tones of Elven. She's half-listening, mostly preoccupied with the satisfying heft of her new dwarven throwing axes, but Zephyr's words catch her attention. Captive in the magic keep, he says. That's right. He must have been chained up there too. Was I out cold then? Or did I just forget?

A flicker of unease ripples through her. "I was the first prisoner in the keep, dwarves chained me up in there. I think they're the ones who built it. No idea what owners came and went, I only remember those last two right, the changeling prince and his moon-glow wizard. Invading my head, making me see things that weren't there. Oh that wizard made me think I was free a hundred times, just to see how much I squirmed. I can't remember all of it. I remember him enjoying it." Indeed, her memories are a tangled mess, a tapestry of fractured images and half-formed thoughts.

Zephyr's presence is a blank spot in that tapestry. She can't recall him at all. They messed with my head good, she thinks, a low growl rumbling in her throat. But I'm fine. I'm fine. She insists internally. Flora remains lost in thought whilst traveling with the others to the mines.
Tyral wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 2:07 pm As they all eventually make their way towards the Mines, Tyral says to Flora, "That is alot of axes. You look like an Axe-ecutioner."
WHAT did he say?

She stops in front of Tyral, for the elf had noticed her impressive collection of axes and even used the word "axes" in his speech.

That makes me... HAPPY! Flora smiles, a rare and fleeting expression that made her look almost… normal.

She looks at her ax-quisite collection. "I do! Isn't it wonderful? Speaking of Axecutions," she declares, her voice jolly, "this is axe-cessive, I know!" She proudly displays her collection of gleaming dwarven throwing axes to the group, each one a quality item and testament to sharp edges and dwarven craftsmanship. Her left eye twitches, and her grin is broad. She looks, indeed, as if she's simultaneously thinking to hug someone whilst contemplating the best way to introduce one of those axes to someone's vital organs.

"A gift," she says to Tyral, her voice gruff but not unkind, and she presses a well-crafted dwarven throwing axe into Tyral's hands. "This is important."

Flora then turns to the rest of the party, her eyes gleaming psychotically. "And for the rest of you," she said, her voice taking on a more playful tone, "something you can trust wherever you go."

With that, she hands each member of the party a beautifully crafted dwarven throwing axe, her eyes lingering on each one as if assessing their potential. Indeed, she scrutinizes exactly how each party member reacts to the gift.
 • Refusal: If someone refuses the axe, Flora's eyes narrow, her voice dropping to a low growl. "Fool," she mutters. "When the shadows close in, and the beasts hunger, you'll find no aid from me. You've turned away a blessing; now face the darkness alone."
 • Lack of Seriousness: If someone treats the axe with flippancy, perhaps making light of its purpose, Flora fixes them with a cold stare. "Laugh now," she says, her voice laced with a chilling certainty. "But ruin awaits those who mock the gifts of fate. When the time comes, the gods will turn their backs, and you'll find yourself abandoned."
 • Skillful Handling: If someone takes the axe and handles it with skill, testing its balance or twirling it with practiced ease, Flora's eyes light up with a spark of approval. "Ah," shes says with a smile gracing her lips. "You have the touch. Great potential lies within you."
 • Hestitation: If someone hesitates, Flora says "No thinking, just swinging. They come for you, split 'em skull to chin. That's it."
No doubt other fates will be predicted for any other reactions. Deep within Flora's violent mind, a barbarian science holds sway. Gnomish brutes of ancient days settled the matter eons ago, and taught this universal truth: axes are more than just weapons; they are symbols of good fortune, a promise of success in one's upcoming future.

Anyone who accepts an axe gets one of these:

Khorv stifles a laugh. At least I am not the only one who wants to pet all the fluffy puppy-like things. Hell, most adults like to be scratched behind the ear…..depending on who is doing the scratching.

Khorv moves closer as Flora begins to hand out the axes. My favorite type of weapon….free.

Khorv ponders Flora for a moment, not sure what to make of her. She is hot headed. At the bar she would be a patron to watch to make trouble. Maybe even end up on the banned list. Best to keep her in good graces so long as she is a help to the bouncer.

Axe in hand Khorv will hesitate before checking the edge and balance. Don’t want to appear as if I am looking a gift horse in the mouth. Satisfied Flora is not offended Khorv begins to check the balance with more of a flourish.

Before he walks away to add his daggers to the exercise, Khorv will address Flora. ”Thank you little warrior. I appreciate the gift.”

That is so heartbreaking. She was tortured. No wonder she is so 'on edge.' How can she trust anyone's intentions after such a long and tumultuous imprisonment? We must try to mend her soul. Show her there is good in people.

He bows his head to Flora. "Thank you." He places the axe in his belt and before Flora leaves he says, "A moment!" to stop her. He reaches for his headband and removes it. Daskyn studies the map and the information it reveals to him. So, magical properties on the map? Perhaps it is protected or something, maybe tracked? And what is that quill being used, perhaps it is magical as well. Daskyn considers, then will go find Granas and Tyral with the map. “This map has some magical properties to it, though I’m not sure what they are, though.” Daskyn says as he moves to hand them the map as Khorv interjects.
Khorv wrote:”Sorry, the guild said I needed to hold onto the map. Their only copy and such…”
Daskyn raises an eyebrow at his fellow elf. I don’t recall hearing anything about that, but I’m not complaining. Daskyn considers and nods to Khorv. “As you wish.” Daskyn says to Khorv and hands him the map. Not that I need the map to remember it/ Daskyn muses.
Flora wrote:"And for the rest of you," she said, her voice taking on a more playful tone, "something you can trust wherever you go."
Daskyn looks at the short and volatile gnome and nods in appreciation. “Thank you for this gift, Flora. This is quite axe-hilarating ” Daskyn offers the gnome and takes the dwarven throwing ax. Good quality axe, guess things as short as dwarves and gnomes need a good throwing weapon to close the distance. Daskyn considers privately to himself, slightly amused.

Daskyn then turns to the others. "I am ready to depart" Daskyn says. After this contract is done, I will be able to afford some additional things. Daskyn considers. He will accept the Sustain magic from Granas

The Wizard grins at Flora before taking a knee to look her in the eye as she offers her warning, "Thank you. I am a bit better with a Knife, but ... sometimes an Axe is needed to show that one means business. I humbly Axe-cept."

While most return to the Keep, Tyral heads to the Shacks with Khorv and Mürrischer. The trio find an elder looking human militia who is able to point Tyral towards Poitin's area with 40g of grease. The shack is of standard size, easily holding twelve people. It is nearly completely cleaned out as most of their equipment went with them into the mine. Neither Khorv nor Mürrischer are able to find anything however Tyral, with a little help from Brago, appear to find a ripped up and discarded shirt. No signs of blood or anything, just worn to tear and discarded. Both Brago and Mürrischer smell dwarf on it, possibly one of the dwarves on Poitin's crew, or Poitin himself.

Trask breaks away to try and find some additional items that might be helpful and much to his surprise, he does find a Container of Much Water. Being sold by the small mage chapter in Adriana that also appears to double as a limited magic shop.

Tyral, Khorv and Mürrischer end up making it back to the Keep about the same time Daskyn is looking for Tyral and Granas for the information gleaned from his mental reading. Granas listens to the information from Daskyn then turns to Tyral. "Interesting, a magical map. I wish I could study it in depth. That said, I can weave a ten day sustain spell over the crew. Everyone would not need food, water or air, and only need limited sleep. Friendly warning though, it does not protect against gases, toxins or other such things that might be involuntarily inhaled." Granas explains and will then cast Sustain on everyone should they accept. Flora also takes a moment to gift everyone with a barbarian luck charm, an axe, and gauge their reactions. Much to Flora's excitement, everyone seems to eagerly take the gift of the dwarven throwing axe.

Zeph has an annoying time keeping up with the Eastern conversation until the kankoran speaks up and most everyone shifts to Elven as their default language. The group spend a few minutes conversing about languages and finishing their prep before everyone except for Granas heads out to the Mine. When they reach Adriana's front gates with their gear, they are escorted by Penington Army (previous referred to as the Militia) to ensure they aren't bothered by other mining crews or vagabonds.

The entry to the Mine is behind a large, secured stone gate that is only openable by magic. Tyral and a few others spot another warlock doing the work and moving the stone walls so that the crew can walk into the mine entry. They find a stone gondola-like lift that descends into darkness below. The lift is controlled by a switch, once everyone is on board, someone flips the switch and the stone gondola begins a slow descent. It takes several minutes and easily fifty feet down before the gondola comes to a stop in a relatively large circular room. There are two immediate entry's that can be seen, one pathway leading towards a series of tunnels, one that leads down another level into the mountain. There are large carts and rails on the ground to help facilitate the movement of heavier equipment between levels.

The group knows their target is on sub-level 4, some hundred plus feet beneath them. The map however only seems to show one level. The map shows a good deal of the level they are on, but does highlight several dead ends and other passages that lead down. There are also highlighted sections that denote mining activity of other crews. The interior of the Mine feels confined with stale air, torches appear lit ever fifty or so feet down any given shaft. Even at the bottom of the main shaft, it feels as though the caverns already provide a eerie silence only broken by the flickering of torchlight.

What are you doing?

Prior to leaving, Zeph kneels down and accepts the axe from Flora, "What a wonderful gift. That you for this."

Zeph shifts uncomfortably as they descend. I'm not a fan of these enclosed spaces. It's going to make the use of my ranged weapons limited. Also I already miss the open sky. Soot and stale air. Well maintained. Here we go. Should I move up front or stay back. Maybe the second or third in line.

Land Navigation- 1d100: [74] = 74 /52%

Ok. That maps makes no sense. I hate being underground.

As they exit the elevator, Zeph will tug his bow from his shoulder. Zeph will move to the second or third position in the group back enough for the melee fighters to have room, but close enough to have good eyes on targets with his bow. "I recommend we retrace the steps of the previous group. I will take up the second or third place to provide fire support should we need it. There are too many conflicting smells to allow me to track anything via scent."

As they descend into the deep starless darkness and silence, Tyral gets a sinking feeling that is not from the descending platform. Should they get to a point where Torches are not as present and darkness begins to become ubiquitous, Tyral draws his flaming knife to shed some light, "We need to make our way down to a 4th Sublevel ... Khorv, do you have a path chosen from the Map? Trask? I can do a Light spell if we need, but as a base-line ... this knife will give off light and will not burn out ... "

If no path has been chosen, Tyral will try to figure it out based on his evaluation of the Map, but assuming it will probably be the ramp descending downwards ...

Khorv doesn’t like the feeling of this. Too confining, not enough space for movement. ”Unfortunately I have not. They gave me charge of the map just before you got there and others on your team have had it most of the time since then. I do know we should be good on the upper, more travelled levels.”

Khorv looks about the team attempting to fully assess them for the situation and what may come.

”That makes sense bowman. The order we travel in may depend on if we think stealth is most important or strength. I can fight up close, but I fight best with space to maneuver.”

Khorv will take whatever position the team deems best, though he would prefer to be teamed in the rear to make sure nothing sneaks up on them.

Flora's eyes adjust instantly to the gloom, the dim light barely registering as a hindrance. Her gnomish heritage kicks in, a primal sense of direction and spatial awareness stirring within her. Cave systems are nothing new to her; her tribe, like many gnomes, has always sought refuge in the cool, dark depths of the earth. The stale air and the eerie silence of the mine are merely background noise, and doesn't disturb her in the slightest.

She watches Tyral's flaming knife with a flicker of interest. Flaming axes, she muses, her gaze lingering on the flickering blade. Do those exist? The thought sparks a primal excitement within her. A flaming axe... now that would be something special.

"I'm up front," Flora declares, her voice rough and decisive, "where I can see the whites of their eyes!"

And so she steps forward, taking point as the group begins to move. Her enormous axe rests casually over her shoulder, and she silently hopes she'll get a chance to use it soon. The darkness beyond holds no fear for her.

Now where's the treasure and some skull's to split open?

Delighted to find the container, Trask makes his way to the Merchant's Guild bank to withdraw the necessary coin for the purchase, and heads back to get the item. Purchases in tow, Trask makes his way back to the Wandering Keep, and works his provisions and gear into something manageable to ruck for two weeks with. Trask also takes the time to key one of his Rift Cards with the main hall of the Keep, for quick return home.

Flora's appearance, causes Trask to pause in packing to look at the small Gnome.
Flora wrote:"A gift, This is important."
Trask takes the axe in his gnarled hands, turns it around a few times. "Good Balance, Dwarven?" Trask says as he slips the axe in his belt.
Flora wrote:"Ah," shes says with a smile gracing her lips. "You have the touch. Great potential lies within you."
Trask smiles and nodes before going back to his packing. When Trask is finished, he'll get the Sustain Enchantment from Granas and follow it up with a question. "Could you make sure Garrick and my horse get fed while I am gone?' Trask asks.

Once the group is in the tunnels, Trask follows along behind Flora (Second Position) trying to follow the map to at least the last point of contact. Two days in... a long trek underground. Trask thinks.

Though it takes a little time and it' not necessarily him that finds something that surely has to be a viable scent to track down the missing miners, the Wolfen does eventually get one and does his best to memorize it before heading out to the mine itself. He even takes the offered gifted axe when it is offered.

Once in the mine and should the mine not be to well suited for his size he grumbles briefly to himself about but endures.

"What? i'm not sure stealth or strength alone is necessary, much as I love a good hunt. And if this is an active mine, snooping about could just get us attacked in general." He gives his opinion on how they go through the mine. "If they're working, snooping about might make them think we're just thieves. Like my kind doesn't have enough to worry about already...

"But who do you think the better shot?" He looks at Zephyr, hoping for at least a little friendly banter with the Kankoran. "I think the better shot should be toward the back.

He smirks as flora proudly and excitedly sets herself at the front of the group to get the fight first.

"I'm not saying no to stealth. Just be mindful workers are present."
