Re: Logan Hale - Sword Bearer (WIP)
CRACK!
Logan couldn't help but grin a bit as another ball zinged past him and buried itself deep in left field. He turned back to the batter at the plate and served up another fast ball.
CRACK!
The ball came off the bat hard and rose higher and higher until it cleared the center field fence by a good few feet. Ethan Carter was a freak, in the best sense of the word. The kid already had every university in the area after him and he was only in his junior year in high school. The kid was going places. Somehow he know where the ball was going before it even left the pitcher's hand. Every time.
Logan rubbed his knee. It was always worse when it was cold out. Thinking about Ethan brought his own memories flooding back. Logan'd been on his way up when he blew his knee out. Bad luck, they'd said. Now here he was at Lincoln High, teaching shop by day and coaching the kids after school.
"-oach! Coach!" Logan shook his head and turned towards the voice. "C'mon coach!"
Logan smirked. "Alright, Ethan. Last one. Let's see if you can handle the heater!" He wound up, doing his best to keep his motions the same as he threw a change up. Didn't matter though. The kid knew somehow.
CRACK!
Logan watched the ball sail past and clapped his hands together. "Alright, boys! Pack it in."
The players chattered as they made their way through the school halls towards the locker room. It took a few seconds for Logan to realize that Ethan had stopped halfway through the hall.
"Ethan?" Logan began to make his way towards the boy, who'd been staring up at the lights. It was only now that Logan realized they were flickering. The shadows on the wall seemed to move about chaotically even though the team had stopped their movements. That was when all hell broke loose. The shadows ripped themselves from the walls and fell upon the young players. Screams filled the halls as Logan tried to usher them out of the building.
"Everyone run, goddamnit! Go, go!" Grabbing a bat, he took a swing at one of the shadowy figures. The bat splintered across its chest and the creature hurled Logan through the hall, sending him crashing into the glass case containing an antique set of armor that served as the school's mascot. In the mess of glass and cheap armor pieces Logan noticed a blade, glowing ever so slightly. He must have seen that sword clutched in the suit of armor's hand at least a thousand times, but it had never GLOWED before. He dragged himself painfully towards the blade, grasping it in his hand as the shadow creature closed in on Ethan.
Something akin to an electrical discharge coursed through his body and images flashed through his mind. Images of people, warriors battling the dark ... and dying. A single question burned in his mind "Will you wield me?"
"Yes..." Logan choked out. Suddenly he was on his feet between Ethan and the monster. He swung at it and this time, it felt pain. It retreated before him, clearly not expecting resistance, until it faded away. However, when Logan turned back, Ethan had vanished.
