The Black Dog of Century Station

A black dog has been said to haunt the rock ridges and gorges of Hanging Hills: for generations ranchers, miners and bandits alike have reported being terrorized by a large, black dog that caused a panic. In the lore of long-haul truckers, in which it is described as a death omen, seeing a black dog with red eyes in your peripheral vision is a sign of a fatal crash being imminent, and that you should pull off immediately.

There are variants of the myth; one is that it is the ghost of a cornered outlaw who committed suicide, while another says it is that of a dog murdered along with its owner, and looks to avenge both of them. reportedly, A local fireman saw it attacking horses. Local police unsuccessfully searched for it, at first they didn't see the black dog. But eventually, a police officer sighted the dog walking along train tracks and shot at it. Apparently, the bullets had no effect on the animal and it walked off, never to be seen again.

"If you meet the Black Dog once, it shall be for joy; if twice, it shall be for sorrow; and the third time shall bring death."

In the Pine Barrens, there is a local legend told by Pine Barren residents describing a ghostly black dog that is said to roam the beaches and pine forests in the area roughly from Absecon Island to Barnegat Bay. Unlike most British or Germanic “black dog” legends, the black dog of the Pine Barrens is generally considered a harmless or even benevolent spirit. According to folklore, pirates on Absecon Island attacked a ship and killed its crew. Among those killed were the cabin boy and his black dog, and the spirit of this black dog supposedly roams the beaches and pines searching for his owner.

CHARACTERS:
  • Black Dog The seven foot tall Black Dog is an imposing figure, resembling a humanoid canine with pitch-black fur, gleaming fangs and glowing red eyes. His form is further obscured by a long, flowing void-black cloak of shadow; its smoke-like tendrils enshroud him and seem to shift and contort, making it difficult to see the vigilante werewolf’s true features. He is armed with long metal claws.
  • Tom (Padfoot) Regan Groom who miraculously survives a bullet to the head on his wedding day, later becomes a quadriplegic filled with endless rage.
  • Maria Gabriel Tom's fiance, who was murdered.

A Hateful Thing
After returning from military service, Tom Regan struggles to find employment, his skills wasted in a society that doesn't appreciate what he has to offer. Frustration and poverty push the brothers to form an unlikely alliance with Igor Miravory, a treacherous Russian gangster, to carry out a daring heist worth millions of dollars.

As Tom plans for his future retirement and the wedding to his fiancée, Maria, he puts all his energy into executing the perfect heist, hoping it will be their ticket to a better life. On their wedding day, love triumphs over the darkness of their past, as Tom finally feels the promise of a brighter future within his grasp.

Tragedy strikes when armed intruders shatter the peaceful atmosphere, taking everyone hostage and shattering the dreams of love and happiness. The Russians, once trusted allies, reveal their true colors, betraying the Regan Brothers, taking the stolen money, and leaving a trail of death in their wake, including Tom's beloved Maria.

Tom's world collapses around him as he faces the barrel of a gun, his fate seemingly sealed, but an unforeseen twist awaits, altering the course of his story. All goes black, as if the universe itself holds its breath, hinting at a twist that defies the expected, leaving Tom suspended in uncertainty.Tom Regan miraculously survives a bullet to the head and spends a year in a coma and then wakes to find that he is a quadriplegic and that everyone he loves has been killed. His rage is endless and transformative and triggers a seizure that nearly kills Tom and then sends him back into a coma.

In the wake of the horrifying events at his wedding and the betrayal of his trusted allies, Tom Regan found himself in a nightmarish existence, confined to a hospital bed, unable to move, while his mind was consumed by endless rage and grief. Little did he know that his shattered life was about to take a supernatural turn, transforming him into a force to be reckoned with.

In the hazy realm between consciousness and the void, Tom Regan found himself pulled deeper into the abyss. The air turned icy, and shadows twisted and contorted, forming grotesque figures that clawed at his very essence. He was dragged into the underworld, a place devoid of light and warmth, where the echoes of lost souls reverberated through the chilling darkness.

Amidst the dismal landscape, Tom was confronted by nine raging rivers, each one more treacherous than the last. The Styx, black and turbulent, demanded his courage. The Acheron, cold and unforgiving, claimed his resolve. The Lethe, shrouded in mist, sought his memories. With every step, he was forced to make sacrifices – pieces of his body and fragments of his soul – to appease the sinister currents that threatened to consume him.
After navigating the perilous rivers, Tom emerged at the end of his arduous journey, battered and broken, yet strangely resilient. There, in the heart of the underworld, he encountered three awe-inspiring figures – the Erinyes Morrigan. These goddesses, beautiful yet terrifying, stood tall and unyielding, their eyes gleaming with an otherworldly wisdom that seemed to pierce Tom's very soul.

Naked and formidable, the Erinyes Morrigan exuded an aura of raw power and ancient knowledge. They were the embodiment of vengeance and retribution, forces of nature that could both inspire fear and command respect. Their voices echoed like distant thunder, reverberating through the desolate underworld.

"You have faced the trials of the rivers," spoke one of the goddesses, her voice like the rumbling of distant thunderstorms. "You have sacrificed pieces of yourself, body, and soul. You have proven your resilience."

Another goddess, her eyes ablaze with an inner fire, continued, "We are the keepers of justice, the enforcers of cosmic balance. We have been watching, and we have seen your heart, Tom Regan. You are a warrior, not just in body, but in spirit."

The third goddess, her gaze as sharp as a blade, stepped forward. "We offer you a choice, mortal. Return to the world of the living, armed with the strength and fury of the underworld. Embrace the darkness within you, and let it fuel your purpose. Seek justice for those wronged, and let your enemies tremble at your wrath."

In that ethereal moment, Tom felt a surge of determination coursing through him. He accepted the goddesses' offer, embracing the shadows that clung to him. With newfound strength and an unyielding resolve, he returned from the depths of the underworld, ready to face the challenges that awaited him in the world of the living.

Little did he know that the encounter with the Erinyes Morrigan would shape his destiny, marking the beginning of his transformation into the vengeful force known as Black Dog – a beacon of justice, forged in the fires of the underworld, and destined to bring retribution to those who deserved it.

During his years in a coma, a mysterious entity emerged from the depths of Tom's subconscious – the vengeful spirit known as Black Dog. This spectral being, cloaked in darkness, possessed extraordinary powers and a thirst for justice. Unbeknownst to the world, Tom's consciousness had merged with the supernatural force, granting him the ability to transcend his physical limitations and exact revenge on those who had wronged him. Years later criminals around the city are found brutally killed at a series of gruesome crime scenes. Sightings of a dog-shaped, or werewolf shaped, shadow figure are associated with the murders.

As Black Dog, Tom embarked on a merciless crusade against the criminals who had shattered his life. His presence was marked by a series of gruesome murders, leaving the city's underworld in a state of terror. The mere mention of his name sent shivers down the spines of even the most hardened criminals, as they whispered tales of a dog-shaped shadow that emerged from the darkness, leaving behind a trail of blood and fear.

Finally the gangsters who betrayed Tom Regan at his wedding and any who might have profited from the betrayal attended an event at the nightclub they owned and had based their operations out of. They were visited by Black Dog, a werewolf cloaked in shadow, and violently killed. Little remains of them, but what does is splattered all over the interior of their establishment. Police and CSI are baffled.

Detectives and investigators struggled to make sense of the carnage, unaware that the elusive Black Dog was, in fact, Tom Regan himself, now endowed with supernatural abilities that defied explanation. The city became a battleground, a place where the line between reality and myth blurred, and where justice took on a new, terrifying form.

Much later random reports lead investigators to connect sightings of Black Dog to the hospital that currently cares for the still comatose Tom Regan. It is discovered that Black Dog and Tom Regan are the same being in two different bodies. The consciousness of Tom leaves his crippled body and in a feat of superhuman psychic fury manifests the body of Black Dog.

Tom Regan/Black Dog are then leveraged into service as a member of the Omega superhuman organization, dedicated to harnessing and controlling superhuman abilities, took notice of Black Dog's actions. Recognizing his unique powers, they reached out to him, offering a chance to channel his wrath and newfound abilities for a higher purpose – to protect the innocent and bring down those who lurked in the shadows.

Reluctantly, Tom Regan, now fused with the vengeful spirit of Black Dog, became an operative of Omega. His transformation from a broken, quadriplegic man into a formidable supernatural entity marked a turning point not only in his own life but also in the battle against crime that raged within the city.

As Tom/Black Dog navigated the treacherous world of superhuman intrigue, he grappled with the duality of his existence – torn between the remnants of his human emotions and the raw, primal instincts of the supernatural being he had become. His journey was a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, even in the face of unimaginable tragedy and the forces of darkness.

In the depths of his soul, the echoes of his past lingered, reminding him of the love he had lost and the life that was stolen from him. As he embraced his new identity as Black Dog, he vowed to continue his fight for justice, honoring the memory of his beloved Maria and all those who had suffered at the hands of evil.

And so, the saga of Tom Regan, the man who became a legend, unfolded in the shadows, a tale of redemption, revenge, and the enduring power of the human will – a story that would be whispered in the darkness, a chilling reminder to those who dared to tread the path of wickedness.

Black Shuck
The earliest known report of a black dog was in France in AD 856, when one was said to materialize in a church even though the doors were shut. The church grew dark as it padded up and down the aisle, as if looking for someone. The dog then vanished as suddenly as it had appeared. On mainland Normandy the Rongeur d'Os wanders the streets of Bayeux on winter nights as a phantom dog, gnawing on bones and dragging chains along with it.
"A straunge, and terrible Wunder wrought very late in the parish church of Bungay: a town of no great distance from the citie of Norwich, namely the fourth of this August, in the yeere of our Lord 1577. in a great tempest of violent raine, lightning, and thunder, the like whereof hath been seldom seen. With the appearance of an horrible shaped thing, sensibly perceived of the people then and there assembled. Drawn into a plain method according to the written copy by Abraham Fleming."
Image
"This phantom I have heard many persons in East Norfolk, and even Cambridgeshire, describe as having seen as a black shaggy dog, with fiery eyes and of immense size, and who visits churchyards at midnight."
The Fairy Grim
The Black Dog of Newgate has been said to haunt the Newgate Prison for over 400 years, appearing before executions. According to legend, in 1596 a scholar was sent to the prison for witchcraft, but was killed and eaten by starving prisoners before he was given a trial. The dog was said to appear soon after, and although the terrified men killed their guards and escaped, the beast is said to have hunted them down and killed them wherever they fled. Grim (or Fairy Grim) is the name of a shapeshifting fairy that sometimes took the form of a black dog in the 17th-century pamphlet The Mad Pranks and Merry Jests of Robin Goodfellow.
Tchén al tchinne ("Chained Hound" in Walloon)
A hellish dog bound with a long chain, that was thought to roam in the fields at night. In Germany and the Czech lands it was said that the devil would appear in the form of a large black dog.
Mahākanha
The Mahākanha Jātaka includes a story about a black hound named Mahākanha (Pali; lit. "Great black"). Mahākanha scares unrighteous people toward righteousness so that fewer people will be reborn in hell. His appearance portends the moral degeneration of the human world, when monks and nuns do not behave as they should and humanity has gone astray from ethical livelihood.
Perro Negro
Black dogs with fiery eyes are reported throughout Latin America from Mexico to Argentina under a variety of names including the Perro Negro (Spanish for black dog), Nahual (Mexico), Huay Chivo and Huay Pek (Mexico) – alternatively spelled Uay/Way/Waay Chivo/Pek, Cadejo (Central America), the dog Familiar (Argentina) and the Lobizon (Paraguay and Argentina). They are usually said to be either incarnations of the Devil or a shape-changing sorcerer.

~ If it ain't a mess, it'll do till the mess gets here. Just for once I'd like to see all these things sort of straightened out, with each person getting exactly what he deserves. Revenge is the sweetest morsel that ever was cooked in hell, it's the best we can do for the taken and lost; and, probably goes without saying, if you go in for revenge you should get it done with extreme finality. ~
