Post

Glitch catalogs every inch of the Rogue, which to an organic may seem like a painstaking and tedious process, but not to the advanced intelligence. Reporting: No current threats found; established a baseline for operations on the ship. I will be able to identify future tampering much more efficiently. Glitch concludes. When Glitch receives the lockdown message regarding routine maintenance, the android's iris zeroes in. Query: What Maintenance? I have seen no authorized technicians. Who throws Thraxus's name onto a Maintenance Order. Glitch questions. Analysis: Croc; Rogues - Survived encounters with Raggedy Man. Thraxus denies us leaving, yet somehow we are no longer at risk. Conclusion: Raggedy Man is a secret employee of Thraxus. Glitch assesses, his new theory growing based on the given situation though Glitch recognizes he has no way to prove or disprove it yet. Glitch takes the time required to cycle through his installed programs, seeing as the ship isn't going anywhere and Glitch has other things to pursue.

Since the ship is locked down, Glitch revisits his project of finding a trustworthy Robotics Technician. My last attempt was a failure; I need to shift how I address organic shopkeepers as to avoid appearing unsavory. If Quince were still here, I would allow him to speak for me. Unfortunate more organics are not like him; they would be almost tolerable. Glitch reasons then finds his fellow Rogues before leaving. "The Rogue is temporarily locked down for Routine Maintenance under order of Thraxus. There is no time table on the report." Glitch states. "I am going to the Open Market on 3-B and will be reachable via radio. Good day." Glitch states, this time turning to leave without waiting to answer a question. Though if Glitch is stopped or someone wants to go with him, the android will begrudgingly wait.

Upon arrival to 3-B, Glitch is going to first look for Robotics and Power Armor locations, specifically ones that appear to be friendly or at least not outright hostile towards A.I.s; though not going into a specific one just yet; Glitch wants options. To anyone Glitch travels with, he will give them a succicnt warning. "Under no circumstances are you to reference or disclose my nature. That will be my decision." Glitch states and does not move or stop staring at whoever went with him until they acknowledge him. Though he has no tone inflection like normal organics, the pause and direct stare from the android should help get the seriousness of his point across. If he traveled alone, he instead searches for a public access computer terminal to search local stores.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

A Glitch in the System

With Glitch on his own the trip down to Level Three is relatively peaceful, and definitely quiet. The Level has it's usual bustle with both local folk and transient populations moving about. It's easy to guess which is which. As Glitch looks for a public info kiosk, he can see street venders hawking wares, food, and other rather mundane services. In the distance the larger business loom. After a short wait behind a few tourists hogging up one of the terminals, Glitch moves forward and begins his search. It's a little hard to get his specific search parameters, as most of the places do not mention their views on Artificial Intelligences. Glitch's experience tells him that most of the places based out of the CCW are right out, while the others are likely impartial, or at least not hostile.

Several minor franchises of the bigger companies are represented here, all save Naruni, who reasonably keep their products far from the Splugorth situated on level three. Most of the shops are in the area known as Wonder World, with the niche boutique style ones being on Center Street, Glitch can expect to pay out of the nose for anything in those particular shops, though he is certain any information about him would be sold to corporate overlords and such. Around the back end of the market are the less reputable, but still reputable enough to be on the upper levels, facilities. Three such locations come to his attention.

The first is a Ocano Robotics; A robotics workshop. It's online statement says they service Robots and Power Armors, as well as drones. The second is Vanlith Electronics, a electronics workshop. It's online statement notes it works on cyberware and bionics, as well as minor repairs on robotics systems. The third is Solari's, a technologist's workshop. The online statement says that anything technological is welcome.

Everything else on the list is generally not what Glitch is looking for, at least on level three.

Post

Glitch studies each of his three selections and whatever information is available about them on the terminal. Update Database: Ocano-3B.PWC; Robotics and Drone workshop; viable choice. Vanlith-3B.PWC; Minor Robotics, primarily cybernetics and bionics; doubtful. Solari-3B.PWC; A technologists workshop welcoming anything technological; Primary Choice. Glitch sets his optics on Solari's. Guile: Will act as a combat cyborg upon initial introduction and gauge their disposition. Ideally the location is empty and out of the way. Glitch logs and begins making his way towards Solari's.

Glitch will make a point to walk past both Ocano Robotics and Vanlith Electronics, even if it takes him longer or he has to double back, just to scope out the exterior of both and gauge their cliental. Intention: Will need to establish one of these two as back-up location should Solari-3B.PWC fail. Likely Candidate is Ocano-3B.PWC. Glitch will note anything important and record his walk past both locations before arriving at Solari's.

Glitch will first scan the location and it's surroundings, seeing it's foot traffic and the threat level of the area before entering. When Glitch enters, he will not immediately go to the clerk and instead walk the isles of the location slowly, looking at various product that may be on display. Analysis: Will the technician engage me first, or remain preoccupied until I approach them? Glitch doesn't have any expectation one way or another.

If he is approached, or Glitch ends up going to the technician, he will attempt to be personable. "Ah, hello. I'm new-ish around here and looking for a reliable robotics technician that isn't owned by one of the corporations. I've found I enjoy the care the smaller operations provide more." Glitch attempts to explain, running his hand across some minor scuffing on his arm.

A Glitch in the System

Glitch having done the basic search moves to do some more pysical legwork, approaching where the terminal says Solari's is. Nestled in the back row, sandwiched between a twenty-four hour
An eatery based around the vending machine concept.
and a clothing store. As far as traffic goes, none of the places seem very busy, with only mild foot traffic. Almost everyone Glitch sees walking around is unarmed and unarmored, which is pretty common on the upper levels. The storefront for Solari's, a plain brick building with a singular door and no windows, has a simple metal sign, with the name in Trade four, and to Glitch's surprise binary.

Glitch satisfied that it isn't some elaborate trap or other hazardous place, decides to enter. The shop is dimly lit, and cluttered with shelves of various technological devices. While there is a counter, it seems unmanned when Glitch walks in. A minute or two into Glitch's perusal of the bric-a-brac on the shelves reveals the first moving thing. A small drone like contraption, cased inside a human skull. A large ocular lens in one eye socket and a glowing red light in the other. It flits into the aisle Glitch is currently in, stops for a moment, and buzzes away towards the back.

Noises can be heard in the back room as something stirs. Another minute passes until Glitch senses someone else in the room with him. The figure is shrouded in a red hooded robe with white trim. If they were human, it is hard to tell with the amount of cybernetic and bionic enhancements they have. These are not the streamlined upgrades of most cyborgs, leaving the figure a gross mockery of humanoid, with puckered pallid flesh edging optical implants, and a grill-like speaker replacing it's mouth. It's limbs look like bare bones augmetics, but Glitch is certain that they're likely much more than they appear. Several of the skull drones follow the figure as it moves to the counter, prehensile mechanical tendrils occasionally snaking out from it's robe to move an item on a shelf as it passes by.

The figure doesn't approach Glitch, but seems to have made itself available to him.
Glitch wrote:"Ah, hello. I'm new-ish around here and looking for a reliable robotics technician that isn't owned by one of the corporations. I've found I enjoy the care the smaller operations provide more."
The being nods. In a very digitized voice it speaks up. "Welcome to Solari's, I am Solari Sigma-2B. I believe my shop meets all of your given parameters, but I assume you have more questions first. What may Solari do for you?" Solari says.

Glitch is unsure if his ruse is working or not, but it doesn't seem like Solari would care either way.

If the artificial intelligence could be pleased, it was upon the sight of Solari's and the welcoming message in Binary. Log: The display of Binary suggests they accent non-organic patrons. Glitch logs, suddenly finding himself feeling oddly more welcomed. He enters. When the floating skull drone appears in the isle with Glitch then promptly leaving, Glitch tilts his head and zeroes in on it with his iris while it leaves. Observation: Interesting; a drone encased in a humanoid skull? If the artificial intelligence could smile, he would be; the most creepily intrigued smile one could imagine, though his visor remains opaque. His attention is drawn to the noises in the back as he observes the hooded figure enter from the backroom. Glitch wastes no time approaching, still trying to maintain the guise of a cyborg.
Solari wrote:"Welcome to Solari's, I am Solari Sigma-2B. I believe my shop meets all of your given parameters, but I assume you have more questions first. What may Solari do for you?"
Analysis: Humanoid; heavily modified; still remnants of organic structure though heavily replaced with cyberware and bionics. Identifies as Sigma-2B; does this indicate a Sigma-2A? A Creator? Something like myself? Resignation: No point in continuing the guise; must establish if this unit is an ally or not. Glitch begins the process of analyzing this Solari Sigma-SB as it speaks to him and coming to the snap decision to drop his guise.

"You may address me as Glitch. I seek two things." Glitch begins, his previous demeaner dramatically changed and far more artificial. "First; A safe location that will modify and repair an artificial combat chassis, among other tools, without fear of discrimination." Glitch states. Pausing only long enough for the first parameter to be understood before moving to the second. "Second; a skilled programmer capable of creating new skill packages for a negotiated price or trade." Glitch pauses. "If you cannot provide the second parameter, it is acceptable so long as the first parameter is met. Is this within your capabilities?" Glitch finishes. While Glitch waits for Solari's answers, he initiates the backup process of escaping the location should hostilities erupt.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

Az Rael sits alone in his room sulking and frustrated. How could something so old remain such a secret. Someone somewhere has to have answers. We need a way to neutralize this thing the next time we encounter it. He settles on the fact that he has exhausted his attempts to find incidents from the past, creatures that may resemble him or any lore that might help the rogues.

He takes some time to review his armor and make sure it is in good working order. With his night suit destroyed he considers finding an armory to buy a new one and maybe some new weapons as well. He makes his way to the ships interface with Center's network and searches for possible locations he could procure armor and weapons. He is less concerned about anonymity as he doesn't anticipate buying anything that would cause alarm. Once he finds a place that looks like a good potential, he heads that way.

A tarlok walks into a bar on level 12 - this isn't the set up to a joke, or if it is it is not a particularly funny one, because every bartender knows that tarloks (even ones not named Pertinax) are unpleasant patrons - and sits at a discrete corner. It is not a particularly reputable establishment, but it is not the the worst place to drink on this level. Heck, by certain (less discriminating) standards this place could pass for nice. They do serve nice beers. It has waitresses. Degenerates, but better than automatons. When one walks up to his table the tarlok simply says, "I would like to see the boss."

The waitress gives him a cold look. He's not the first patron to immediately ask to see the bar's owner. But usually they will order a drink or even some fried food. They will have some sort of pretense for being here; they will not be pricks about it. Pertinax doesn't need a pretense. In fact he better have a good excuse for even showing his miserable face in this bar after the last time he was here.

The dursok owner strides to the table flanked by two security drones. He looks down at the Pertinax. The twerp. The only reason he looks so imperious is because you are seated. Stand up and let us see how tough he seems, even with security. Pertinax doesn't let the owner say a word, holding up a credstick. "50,000 UTC. That should cover my debts plus interest."

If Solari Sigma 2-B is surprised by Glitch's ruse, it doesn't show. As a matter of fact, Glitch notices that any and all scans in Solari's direction come up as a blank spot, as if he is a void in the universe. A unusual noise emits from Solari's speaker grill, a sort of static-like staccato, it takes Glitch a few seconds to realize that Solari is chuckling. "I believe we can make arrangements for all of your requests. Again I query, what can Solari do for you?" The man machine hybrid says once more.

Az Rael, or Alex as he is known to his friends... companions... associ... Az Rael is not sure what the true nature of his relationships with the Rogues is, and a lot of this has to do with the often times paradoxical nature of himself. He is a chameleon of sorts and this leaves him without close personal attachments. The cruel nature of his upbringing. Alex ruminates on the recent events, but the very thought of it, causes a mild headache, so the Sunaj Shadow Assassin decides to look for a new spare suit of light armor and maybe new weapons, a practical endeavor.

Using the ships access to Center's Ultra-net, Alex peruses where to go to buy armor, and finds the answer muddy at best. By his estimate there are over a thousand purveyors of armor in Center alone. Add to that the idea of weapons, a vague and broad topic, the number jumps exponentially. The search is long and tedious when one doesn't have a clear goal in mind, this is complicated by sophisticated and very annoying pop-ups by the largest weapons manufacturer in the Three Galaxies, Naruni Enterprises. Alex can tell that he could just throw a dart on either Level Three or Level Four and likely would hit a place that sells weapons.

Pertinax

The former Tarlok Dreadmaster known as Pertinax, finds himself back down on Level Twelve, trying to make amends, or at the very least tying up loose ends. Pertinax has been here before, and has done a disservice to the place. A few things seem different, but not out of place in the bar. The furniture has mostly been replaced with seemingly sturdier built goods, and a mountain of a humanoid sits quiet vigil near the bar's main entrance.

When Pertinax makes his request of the Waitress, she sighs and walks away. She doesn't even get back to the bar before the Slug-like Dursok comes out from the back. Pertinax can see the mountain of a bouncer shift at the bosses arrival.
Pertinax wrote:"50,000 UTC. That should cover my debts plus interest."
The Dursok's brow furrows. "Oh, is that so?" The alien says in a lowborn drawl. "I don't think it is... I think money to you means nothing so just handing it out doesn't show me you've learned anything." The Alien says.

POST

Alex decides to just take a trip down to level three feeling a walk and some window shopping would do him some good. His hope, the distraction could help him let go of recent events. The thought of Raggedy man watching him plagues his mind and he finds himself watching everything around him. He could be watching right now. Recording me. Or considering a way to toy with me even now.

Shadows in the alley seem to move and catch his eye constantly as he makes his way to his shopping destination.

Once on level three he walks around window shopping for what might be available. If he sees something that piques his interest and availability, he will stop to discuss pricing with the shop. If not he will continue shopping, admiring the wares and trying to let go of the feeling of being watched.

Items he would be interested in
  • NE-CW20 Camouflage Variable Armor
  • NE-CS1 Cermalyte Black Nightsuit
  • Out of Phase Field
  • GR-15AR Assault Rifle
  • PB-85 Blast Rifle
  • NE-101 "Popper" Mercenary Multi-Rifle
Possible hobby
From Az Rael's background... During the mission something went sideways, Az Rael missed a secondary target in the room. This target ended up getting the drop on Az and during the struggle his mother was critically wounded. In a rage Az Rael ended up killing both of the targets before they could complete their interrogation. Rhea sent Az Rael to retrieve a talisman left in their transportation outside. As soon as he got 20 ft from the building it exploded. There is no proof but to this day he believes his mother completed the ultimate sacrifice and activated her explosion tattoo.

What if the mother is alive... What if he catches a glimpse of her along the way, triggering him to use his downtime to try to find out if she survived?

I am proposing this as it would include some work on your end too.

Pertinax scowls at the dursok bookie. As if sluggo here has any right to claim a moral high ground. When have you ever met a loanshark that ever saw an interaction as being anything more than transactional?
Dursok bookie wrote:"Oh, is that so? I don't think it is... I think money to you means nothing so just handing it out doesn't show me you've learned anything."
"I value the talisman more than I value the credits," Pertinax replies, "just as I imagine you value order in your establishment more than my continued patronage. Lesson learned. Now if I can have my talisman back I will promptly fux off and we will never see each other again unless one of us thoroughly angers the wrong mobster."

He holds out his hand expecting his talisman back.

Alex wanders the streets of Level Three first, as most of what he is looking for can be found on this level. Compared to the lower levels he's been frequenting as of late, the upper levels are clean, brightly lit, and generally devoid of what most would consider dangers. This doesn't stop the Sunaj Shadow Assassin from jumping at literal shadows. It doesn't take long for Alex to find what he thinks he needs. If/when he finishes his purchases on level three, Alex will need to make his way down to level four to hit all of the Naruni outlets.

The Dursok doesn't make a move to do anything Pertinax expects, he just shifts the chair opposite of Pertinax aside and takes it's place. "You mercenaries think just because we live in the refuse, that we don't understand the societal niceties of those on the upper levels. You came into my place and decided to throw a fit, breaking my things, you had to leave that trinket as collateral. Now you come in here acting like you're in charge demanding I take what scraps you have to offer, and give you back the item. Not even an apology." The Dursok says surprisingly calmly.

"I think you're gonna have to do a bit more than just step in here and make demands to get it back... And before you think you're gonna go on another rampage, I will tell you the trinket isn't in the building, so you'll never get it back that way. I think to get it back you're gonna need to do some manual labor for me. Oh you're still gonna pay me as well, but that's just the price of doing business." The Dursok says, surprisingly he doesn't seem to show the usual emotions that someone in power would, to Pertinax it triggers a deep seated memory of his youth, and teachers he had before the military took him.

"I will have you work the bar for one week, eight hours a night. I think you'll learn to keep that temper in check when you're responsible for the location." The Dursok says, pausing to hear what Pertinax has to say.

Alex finds some items of interest on the 3rd level and finalizes his purchases. He gives the clerk the location of the rogue for delivery as he suspects that Center's security would not appreciate him carrying the items home. After wards he makes his way down to level 4 to see if he can find anything else. Az Rael is presently surprised by the selection of items Naruni has to offer and makes a few purchases there as well.

After settling up with the clerks and making sure all the deliveries are secured, he decides to find a place to sit for a minute and just enjoy the day. A cup of coffee maybe, it isn't often life offers me the time to relax. Taking the opportunity, He looks for a place that offers outside seating so he can do a bit of people watching.

If Glitch cared to express outright satisfaction with the discussion so far, he'd be smiling at Sigma-2B. Initiate study of Sigma-2B: Seek to confirm if unit is actually an intelligence or not. Log all interaction for discussion with Ultrix. Glitch processes swiftly before responding. "I have two goals with my visit today. First; There are several physical modifications to this chassis I wish to pursue. To start, integrating an external forcefield emitter internally to run off the internal power supply." Glitch states, holding out his forcefield. "Other projects we can discuss during future meetings. I would supply parts as able, credits as able, and services as able in payment." Glitch explains, putting the forcefield back.

Glitch begins, allowing Sigma to consider and respond before continuing. "Second; if it is within your means, I aim to allow you to canabilize various skill packages I provide or purchase from you to create new, more focused packages for my efforts. We would begin with the restructuring of the Military Communication Packages; Basic and Specialized; and create the Advanced package." Glitch finishes. Pausing briefly before adding. "I recognize this may not be accomplishable in one visit." He adds, his two initial requests laid on the table, he would see how Sigma reacted.

Solari Sigma-2B takes the proffered Force Field in one of his clawed hands. A few moments of examination later, Solari sets it down. "Force field integration is possible, and to be honest routine. This project should only take me an hour." Solari says, Glitch can sense the disappointment in the technicians tone.

"Going to need more specifics, the nature of automaton programming is really limited to data storage, so if you are expecting a super package I do believe you will be disappointed." Solari says as his mechanical tendrils move of their own accord, pulling data wafers off of shelves.

GM Note: I am not sure what modifications you are trying to make for the program package, so I would like a rundown of what you would like to happen. No guarantees it will, but it gives me something to work with.

Force Field Integration will run Glitch 35,000 credits. ~Consumer

A lonely shadow
Az Rael

Az Rael finished shopping finds a small coffee shop off the main thoroughfare. A few more credits later, Az Rael has a cup of steaming hot coffee in front of him. The street is certainly quieter than the main run, but not devoid of foot/motor traffic. Az Rael spends some time watching the people walking by, lost in thought. It's at some point during this musing that Az Rael notices a data disk sitting next to his coffee, something that wasn't there the last time he took a sip. A quick look around reveals nothing out of place, but still the evidence is clear someone or something left the disk there.

GM Note: I will get the items added to your sheet soon. ~Consumer

Paranoia immediately sweeps through Alex's body as he tenses up. What the hell?! he wonders to himself. His face pales as the blood drains and his face goes blank of any emotion. Standing quickly, he scans in all directions again. How is that even possible? Alex steps out a bit in each direction trying his best to see if anything looks out of place.

Settling on the fact he completely missed this disk being delivered he sits down again looking at the disk confused and concerned. Raggedy man? A bomb? The cause? Having so many clandestine versions of himself leaves him clueless and wondering if he should even touch the damn thing.

If they wanted me dead, I imagine I would be. Didn't even see them leave this. Wouldn't have seen the knife. Alex reaches out causally sliding the disk off the table. I could be instructions. Alex chastises himself, Dammit, making such a scene. A cleanly delivered message like that. What is wrong with me?

Alex slips the disk into his pocket and take another look around to see if he has actually caused a scene. He finishes his coffee and drops a tip on the table then gets up and leaves. This could be urgent. He decides to make his way back to the Rogue to see what is on the disk sooner than later. I guess my shopping spree is over.

Once he is back at the ship, Alex makes his way to his room. He closes and locks the door. Taking out his computer he puts the disk into the computer to see what is on it. Let's see if I have new instructions.

Glitch doesn't make any motion towards acknowledging Sigma's potential disappointment initially. "Excellent. Depending upon the success of said routine operation, my requests will become more complex." Glitch states, not hiding his intended meaning. Log: Sigma-2B appears to be a competent technician, bored with simple requests and seeking more complicated ones. This has potential however also increases the risk; I will gauge this unit's ability based on the shield install. Glitch notes. "I authorize the shield installation procedure and will pay upon completion, unless a down payment is required." Glitch offers.
Sigma wrote:"Going to need more specifics, the nature of automaton programming is really limited to data storage, so if you are expecting a super package I do believe you will be disappointed."
Glitch offers a swift and short disapproving nod. "Negative; I do not want to have a bloated package, that decreases performance and increases lagg during operations. I want to take these two packages, comb out skills that are redundant or unnecessary for my line of work from both packages, take what is left and create a focused, unique package. See my designs. " Glitch explains and then will offer to upload a designed Advanced Package and will allow Sigma time to examine it.

"Fine," Pertinax snaps, in what he (and literally no on else) considers a conciliatory tone, "I am sorry if anyone was offended by my drunken antics. My attempts at playful mischief were mistaken for overt hostility, and the ensuing property damage was unfortunate. I do not want your 'legitimate' business to be disrupted, so I will pay for my part of said property damage with interest. Now let us end our transaction; now can I have my talisman back?"
Dursok bookie wrote:"I think you're gonna have to do a bit more than just step in here and make demands to get it back... Oh you're still gonna pay me as well, but that's just the price of doing business."
He is even more stubborn than Croc. Pertinax grunts in mild frustration. But from that he has an (minor) epiphany; like Croc, the dursok's criminal fiefdom depended on him keeping order. Pert's playful mischief was a serious challenge to that order. Unless you are planning on replacing him, you should just give him what he wants already. That is how you ended up doing odd jobs for Croc, and now you have an almost cordial relationship with him.

"You are right," Pertinax says in a sour, some might even say remorseful, tone. "I have disrespected you and your establishment. Tell me how I can make this right."
Dursok bookie wrote:"I will have you work the bar for one week, eight hours a night. I think you'll learn to keep that temper in check when you're responsible for the location."
That is all? You know plenty about serving alcohol, after all, you thoroughly study every alien that has tended bar for you*. You will be the dreadmaster of this bar! Pertinax sits up stiffly and looks at the dursok. He says in a very serious voice, "Very well, I will operate your establishment with the order of one of my military units. When do you want me to start? Right now, or would you like me to return tomorrow?"

* You walk into at a Tarlok bar in Seeron. Prior to the invasion it had been a quaint little pub that served a local university. Now most of its patrons were now military officers. Occasionally a squad of spurbulls might come in to celebrate confiscating some profitable contraband or arresting a noted Skrayper (dumb name). You sit on a stool at the bar and signal the bartender, a young Seeronian male, over. "Boy, what type of beers do you serve. Give me something bitter and herbal."
And later: "Boy, do you know how to make cocktails? What is one that was popular with the elites of this planet before the invasion? Make me a double, hold the bitters. And swap out the gin for a tarlok vodka, it is a better base for a cocktail. And do not use too much fruit juice or you will muddle the taste of the brandy."
Your questions get more personal: "Boy, has anyone in your family been arrested? Or do they know how to toe the line?"
And that was more polite than the following: "Boy, tell me about the females of your species."
Still drinking: "Boy, another."
But in the end, you reward him for his deference. You take out a small metallic disk from your pocket and hold it up in front of him. "Boy, this is nickel. It is a somewhat valuable metal that can be melted and alloyed for industrial or commercial parts. You can barter this token for some small comforts. Enjoy, you have earned it."

Glitch wrote:"Excellent. Depending upon the success of said routine operation, my requests will become more complex... I authorize the shield installation procedure and will pay upon completion, unless a down payment is required."
Solari beeps in acknowledgement. two of the three skull drones pick up the force field harness and flit off to the back of the store.
Glitch wrote:"Negative; I do not want to have a bloated package, that decreases performance and increases lagg during operations. I want to take these two packages, comb out skills that are redundant or unnecessary for my line of work from both packages, take what is left and create a focused, unique package. See my designs. "
Solari accepts the upload, after running anti-viral software. "Should be possible, It will take me a day or tow dependent upon my current workload. I estimate the cost to be two hundred thousand credits." Solari says.

Whether Glitch accepts or not, Solari exits from behind the counter, when Glitch is perplexed to see that Solari does not have humanoid legs, but a more insectile multi-limbed chassis. The Technologist moves with surprising grace. "Follow me, we will install the force field." Solari says as he leads Glitch to the back which is a rather spacious if cramped workshop filled with a variety of projects, in various stages of completion.

Solari motions for Glitch to lay in a human shaped chair designed for cybernetic work. "I will need to power you down briefly for the final installation, so as to not short out the components." Soalri says matter of factly to Glitch as he begins working on opening up Glitch's torso to begin the installation. True to his word approximately forty minutes into the project, Glitch is put offline, for exactly three minutes, when he comes to, Glitch can see diagnostic programs running across his vision, as far as Glitch can tell all is well.

"The installation is complete, it will take twenty or so minutes for the software to finish it's updates. Your force field has the same problems as an internal component as an external one, overloading it will force it into cool down for twelve standard hours. Though you will not need to exchange e-clips now." Solari says.

"Come to me in a three days and I should have the program completed." Solari says.

A lonely shadow
Az Rael

Az Rael's nerves are now generally frayed, which is an odd experience given the generally secretive nature of his very existence. Az Rael makes his way back to his quarters on the Rogue, to sequester himself away from prying eyes, though he begins to wonder if he is ever truly alone anymore. Shaking the maddening thoughts away for the moment, Az Rael slots the disk into his personal computer. A few moments pass, before a prompt opens up.

Code: Select all

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH? Y/N

Az Rael tentatively pushes the yes, and the screen goes dark for a moment, before a grainy video taken likely by a drone appears. The scene is familiar to Az Rael having seen the clip more times then he's like to admit, it's from the night his mother died, specifically the events that led to her demise. Just like Az Rael expected the scene plays out like it has a hundred times before to him; she enters the building, three minutes pass, and then the building explodes, knocking the drone from the sky.

Code: Select all

THIS ISN'T THE WHOLE TRUTH.
The words are in stark green against a black screen.

A new clip begins playing, there is no sound, but it has a timestamp, two years ago.

A woman hurries along a foreign street, on an unknown world. She turns in to a building, where the camera view changes to what appears to be internal security cameras. It's a shop of some sort, selling mundane goods, available on innumerable worlds. The view follows the woman from several angles as she shops for sundries. It's when she arrives at the counter that Az Rael finally gets a look at her face. While she is a few years older, it is very clearly the image of his mother, alive and seemingly well.

The video cuts out.

The Dursok loanshark nods. "I think tomorrow. I'll partner you up with one of my people to show you the ropes, and we'll go from there. I will take the credits now, and see you tomorrow." The Dursok says.

Now fifty thousand credits lighter, Pertinax has a mission so to speak.

The next late afternoon, Pertinax arrives to a nearly empty bar. The Dursok sits near the edge of the bar talking to a Wulfen who is behind the bar. The Dursok pauses his conversation, and looks to Pertinax. "Ah here is our newest talent. Miro, meet Pertinax. You'll be showing him the basics before throwing him to the wolves." The Dursok says gesturing to the Wulfen.

The Wulfen nods. "Let's get to work then."

The first three days are a cake walk, we'll continue on day four.

Glitch follows Sigma into the back room and logs the apparatuses that pass for legs on Sigma-2B. Process: Was this unit's body constructed by an organic or its own choice? Efficient to my optics but visually unappealing to organics. Unfortunate fact of chassis upgrades is the need for main drive shut down. Glitch reconciles, partitioning his drive for shut down as Sigma warns Glitch that he will be shut down.
Sigma wrote:"I will need to power you down briefly for the final installation, so as to not short out the components."
Glitch doesn't visually acknowledge it but does respond vocally. "As expected. Provide a sixty second warning prior to shutdown." Glitch states and then is put offline. When Glitch loads back up and the diagnostic shows no issues, he logs the event. Log: Current Diagnostics show Sigma-2B to be correct; forcefield installation complete; offline for 180 seconds. Attempting to recover backup logs of anything the that might have been recorded for review. Conclusion: Shield Operation successful, depending upon the cleanliness of the programming for the skill package; Sigma will become my main repair and upgrade location on Phase World. Glitch concludes.

Az Rael sites on the edge of his bed staring at the blank screen for a good long moment. His mind is flooded by emotions he shouldn't have. Doubt fills his mind first in the form of belief that the video is real, followed by a nagging feeling that things he has held to be facts of life may not be true.

This has to be trickery. Another Raggedy man trap? Alex stands quickly pacing back and forth in his room. My mother is dead. His jaw clenches at the thought as he fights back the urge to cry. She is dead. Has been. This can't be... He turns quickly back to the video and plays it one more time. her? Is it her? Is it possible? He runs through the night in his head over and over. Why would she pretend? Was it her choice?

He stills himself, no. No! That can't be her. Shaking his head he considers, someone is playing game. A nasty cruel, cruel game.

He watches the video a few more times, first looking at the details of the woman's face. It does look so much like her. Then he focusses on the surroundings. He looks for anything that can help identify where the video was taken. When?, he considers for a moment as he realizes that it may not even be recent.

Alex goes into full forensic mode as he reviews the video and the disk itself for any clues. Satisfied when he is done, that he has exhausted every effort, he makes his way to the galley of the ship to make himself a drink and consider what this could mean.

Along the way he runs through the situation silently to himself...

Someone is playing with me. Is it a coincidence or is it tied to our recent failure?

Anyone who has access to my communication with the cause would think my mother is alive. I cannot ask the team for help, it could blow my cover.

But what if... what if it is tied to raggedy man. It could be something useful for all of us.

As he pours whatver whiskey he might find over a single cube of ice he has one last thought that seems to dull his mind.

What if, it is her?

Armor
Talisman of Armor of Ithan (Inactive)

Blue and orange hooded jacket

Weapon
Ripper vibro-knife
Kimarxi hunting knife
HW-19 stun pistol (20/20)

After finishing his business with the bookie for the day, Pertinax heads up to Level 4 and visits the smyther that made his custom loksuit. "The new suit held up on its first use. Took some damage and now needs repairs. Can I bring it by tomorrow? I will also need to purchase some ammunition."

  • Repair 23 M.D.C. to custom loksuit
  • 2 E-clips to replace the ones spent and/or lost during the last fight
  • 6 NE-10G Grenades (DB3 pp. 56)

Dursok bookie wrote:"Ah here is our newest talent. Miro, meet Pertinax. You'll be showing him the basics before throwing him to the wolves."
Pertinax walks up to the bar and stands to the side of he bookie. He thinks his pun is so clever. Unsophisticated degenerate. You will show him true wit with your dreaded mastery of the double and even the triple entendre! He jerks his head in a rough acknowledgement of the bartender and then waits for the bookie to leave. No point in pleasantries. Finish your shifts and then find a classier bar to grace with your patronage.
Miro wrote:"Let's get to work then."
"Your species lives in packs, correct?" Pertinax says as a greeting. "Then you will understand that I am the alpha, the big dawg. Once you have shown me everything I need to know I will be able to run this place single-handedly."

And to his credit, Pertinax isn't a terrible bartender. In fact, one could say that he is perfectly serviceable. There isn't any art to pouring out a pint of lukewarm lager or popping open a couple of bottles of ale, but Pert does it efficiently. And while his shots are stingy, no one is complaining about not getting their money's worth. That being said, his cocktails are insipid, even for drinks that simply require adding hard liquor to a mixer; they lack a certain joie de vivre. Perhaps it is a reflection of Pertinax's worldview as a dour alcoholic: booze is a basic necessity, and so it is served with all the fanfare of tap water.

Regardless, Miro finds that aside from his cold arrogance, Pertinax is a consummate professional behind the bar. If asked to get hand Miro something, Pertinax complies promptly. When Miro needs Pertinax to get more supplies from the basement, the tarlok does so with a smile. Does that smirk suggest a sense of superiority because tarloks are bigger and stronger than wulfen? Of course, but he doesn't say anything overtly speciest. In fact, he doesn't say much at all, simply relaying information as needed.

By the third day, Pertinax is so confident in himself that he starts to use his telepathy to predict what drinks patrons need. This doesn't mean he is more charming or that his cocktails suddenly taste better. Service just becomes more efficient as he has the right bottle of beer on hand when someone asks or is already pouring citrus pulp into the blender when someone asks for a sonic screwdriver. One does not need to think too much about air to breath; likewise, the degenerate drunks at the bar do not need to think too much about where their next dose comes from. At the end of the last day, Pertinax gives Miro a polite nod and heads back to the Rogue. You are halfway to freedom.

The Promethean finds himself doing a few odds and ends during his time away from mission(s) or group stuff in general:

He checks out a few of Center's non-fatal boxing events- the "to the death" matches hitting too close to home, so he steers clear of anything like that. He spends a lot of time at the tower looking for and researching spells while setting up game plans and a definitive to-do list for (tinkering) inventions.

I think I need to make a private company to sell some Techno-Wizard ideas and gadget'd gadgety gadgets, he chuckles to himself at the mental wordplay before mumbling the phrase to himself. He does some shopping (mall posts to come) visiting his favorite places- one especially known for its collection of Heavy Mega Damage weapons. Then for all his running around he ends up going some place where he can be building(tinkering).

I need to develop an assistant and a portable shop... these things will probably be the first on my list of things to-do.

A Glitch in the System
Glitch

Glitch leaves Solari's after promising to return in three days time. The Android makes a day of shopping, moving between the various venders required to acquire the items that they're looking for. This takes Glitch from level three, to level four, and even back up to level two. If anyone or anything thought something was amiss with Glitch, they didn't express it. Glitch is certain that in the end credits motivated them to not care to look to hard at the customer.

The next few days are uneventful, allowing Glitch to take up his generally creepy past time of observing people for far too long. On the directed third day, Glitch makes way to Solari's once more.

10 NE-10G Fragmentation Grenades
10 NE-10G High Explosive Grenades
5 E-Clips
2 Flight Suits
2 Black Hoodies (zip up)
2 Cowls
Phase Sword
Phase Beamer

Total: 111,400 credits (Is this price acceptable?)

Forgery (Examine the video for signs of it being doctored.)
Computer Operation (Examine the metadata in the file to see when it was last modified and or copied. Examine the disk for any other files or recently deleted data.)
Intelligence (Try to identify anything in the video that might give him a clue as to where the video was taken.)

Az Rael in private begins to have what feels like a massive anxiety attack. A revelation to his past he thought closed. Az Rael begins to pour over the film more than a few times trying to eek out more information. As far as Az Rael can tell the videos are authentic, not doctored in anyway. Using some more advanced computer techniques, Az Rael is able to access the video's metadata, but finds it is encrypted, and needs to be cracked to be able to be read, a roadblock to his skills. As for visual clues in the video as to where it may be from, the location is very generic, and hard to read.

The stress built to a crescendo, forces Az Rael to take a break, and pour himself a drink from the ships stores.

Pertinax

Pertinax wastes no time and makes his way to the armorer who worked on his suit previously.
Pertinax wrote:"The new suit held up on its first use. Took some damage and now needs repairs. Can I bring it by tomorrow? I will also need to purchase some ammunition."
The armorer nods. "Yeah I got some space that I could do a patch job. As for ammo, you're gonna have to look elsewhere, I only do repairs and modifications." The man says.

This leaves Pertinax to source his shopping elsewhere, but given he's in the Naruni trade center, it's not very hard.

The next day, after being greeted by Miro, the Space Wulfen bartender, Pertinax tries to do his usual brand of conversation.
Pertinax wrote:"Your species lives in packs, correct?.. Then you will understand that I am the alpha, the big dawg. Once you have shown me everything I need to know I will be able to run this place single-handedly."
Miro shakes his head. "No we don't, and I doubt it, but feel free to show me differently." Miro says.

The next three days of work are long and surprisingly boring all things considered, Pertinax is guessing that it is the slow part of the week. Miro has little trouble showing Pertinax the ropes, but Pertinax finds himself being corrected several times, usually on the weight's of his pours and his general lack of personal skills that translate well into the consumer market.

Day four proves more interesting as Pertinax is subjected to a rush of customers he hasn't had to deal with before.

(GM Request: Roll me a save vs Insanity (12), failure means Pertinax has some issues dealing with the stress. ~Consumer)

Loksuit Repairs
2 E-clips
6 NE-10G Grenades

Total: 36,000 credits (Is this amount acceptable?)

Bryke

Bryke spends several days to himself, watching some sporting events. As far as fights go they're mundane at best, no real thrill all things considered. This is followed by a lot of window shopping, and thinking on the future, but no real action. Bryke even spends some time at the Blackstone Tower, but doesn't really get much done.

Alex drinks heavily, deciding a night of an alcohol induced stupor would be preferable to dealing with all the thoughts of what has transpired, what could transpire and what may never transpire. Glas after glass he empties and refills until he finds himself laying on a chair int he common area the next morning.

Waking to a headache and a sharp stomach pain he first questions how much he drank and then quickly wonders what he drank. The fog from the night before is heavy and he remembers little to nothing after starting to drink. Holding his head, he chastises himself, Stupid, so stupid. What if I said something. Did something. What if... we were attacked. he shakes his head in disappointment with himself only to create more of a headache. Making his way to the infirmary he looks for some minor pain medication and water. What problems did that solve? Other than... maybe... Taking a break from myself. Alex sighs deeply and makes his way back to his room. The computer is still open, and he remembers he still has the encryption to break on the disk, now is not the time, he thinks to himself and opts for a very long, very hot showers.

After the shower he sits on his bed and considers the possibility of his mother being alive. was it her choice? Did she choose to leave father and us? She wouldn't, would she? Could it be the cause? Did they need her for some deep assignment? Something I, we... did Dad know? Does Dad Know? His mind is alive with so many questions. Only one way to get answers. Ask questions. The problem is... Alex is keenly aware what happens when you ask the cause too many questions. That is not the way... Her, I need to find her. To see if she is even my mother.

Alex takes time to go back to the kitchen and make himself something to eat and nurse his hangover. First thing first, clear my head. Then, see if I can't break that encryption. After breakfast he returns back to his room to take time and try to break the encryption on the meta data on the disk.

Glitch does not try haggling or bartering for better prices and instead takes the first offer he finds, not wanting to spend too much time interacting personally with so many various organic meatheads. If Glitch had a social meter, it was nearing the point that it was full and he would start eliminating nuisances. Fortunately that never came to pass as Glitch sorts his newfound items, storing some of them on the ship, others within his internal compartments. [Price accepted -- Can I add a duffle-bag to it as well?]

With nothing to do for nearly three days, Glitch partakes in his favorite past-time, he observes. After throwing on the flight-suit and cowl, Glitch finds an unobtrusive location that overlooks parts of the market or docks, busy locations. While some organics might people watch to help themselves, imagining made up lives or judging people too harshly just to help themselves, Glitch's enjoyment is far different.

Each person he sees, the android cycles through an execution simulation on them. That woman there, throat slit in a back alley. That alien there, poison blade through small of back between natural scaled skin. That one, well placed sniper bullet so his body falls on the people below him. Glitch didn't laugh or talk to himself while running this simulations, though its impossible to say if they served any purpose beyond sadistic people-watching; perhaps a fascination with death. Log: New weapon to acquire; retractable vibro-blade coated in poison or with a deliverable posion solution. Would require poison be dispensed from within the blade. Glitch begins reasoning, realizing that one of his ideas was intriguing but currently not do-able. If any random passerby happens to stop and stare at Glitch in return, the normally opaque face flashes a

, hopefully scaring them off.

On the third day, Glitch returns to Solari's and enters the facility. If the location is empty (except Sigma), Glitch will go straight to the counter. "Hello. Progress on my order?" Glitch asks. If the location is not empty, Glitch will instead browse like he was the first time he entered and watch the interaction with the others. If Sigma is not busy and Glitch feels no threat, he will approach Sigma and ask about his order.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

Save vs. insanity (+12) 1d20+6: [3]+6 = 9

It all starts when a patron asks for something called a 'Atlanticano'. Pertinax had sensed that this humanoid would be a nuisance the moment he walked in the door. Scanning the human's surface thoughts, Pertinax knew he didn't want a bottled beer, which meant actual labor. Then the human ordered his drink, pronouncing it with a strange accent, 'Ah-t-LAWN-tee-ko'. You would think that his ancestors had been exiled from their mystical land by the Sploogorth.

"Coming up," Pertinax replies blankly. He then turns around and pulls up the recipe on his HPC. Simple enough, equal parts bitters and vermouth over soda water, garnished with citrus slice. He mixes the drink, stirs a litte, and then adds the garnish before handing it over with a stiff... well, Pertinax might call it a smile, but others would describe it is a toothy glare.

"This isn't a prop-er Atlantico," the patron says pushing the drink back to Pertinax. That accent sounds even more pretentious when he feigns offense. "It should be made with Aerihman bitters."

Pertinax stares down at the drink, and then looks back at the man. Oh, no. He is serious. Pertinax debates whether or not to tell off this patron. That would keep him from being a problem. But then again, the boss doesn't like to kick out patrons for having opinions. He had not kicked out Pertinax until after the tarlok had caused thousands of credits in property damage. But that also might be a sign that for a bookie, the drusok is way too trusting.

So Pertinax remakes the cocktail in front of the man so he can see that the proper brand of bitters is being used. But then he pushes it back again. "Equal parts bitters and vermouth."

"This is a top shelf alcohol, it costs extra." The man slides his credstick across the bar. This bold gesture earns Pertinax's contempt. While normally a tarlok would commend that stubborn gesture, Pertinax wants this man gone. However, he seems like he will only leave with the very precise cocktail that he asked.

So Pertinax makes the cocktail a third time, and it is rejected a third time. "The delphi citron should be muddled into cocktail, so it activates the essential oils in the bitters."

"Take your reed stirrer and activate the oils yourself," Pertinax says putting his hand on his stun pistol. "Otherwise I can muddle something for you."

WHile working on an ongoing project of programming a personality for a portable digital assistant- mixed with a TW touch, so that glitch would have a hard time "acquiring" it as a minion. He has been kicking the idea around for a while now, of somehow blending a mummy with an A.I. - and the mummy be something like a "repurposed" arboreal wailer or one of those khreegor hounds - maybe even a murderous white ape- or even a phase spider if he can actually catch and kill one. If he is successful he would probably be the first in all of Center to do it he thinks- but probably not.
OOC Comments
Bryke wants to create his own personal TW company, something equivalent to an LLC with an EIN number and everything in CENTER. I have never heard of this but I would like him to do it under a different name something like Haeph- short for haephestus or something. ?
I have to find a way to maximize my downtime, so maybe build a portable lab- mix a D-Envelope with a time distortion spell, and an illusion spell ... hmmm worth a shot.

A Glitch in the System
Glitch

Glitch finds Solari's empty like last time, also like last time the only signs of life are the floating skull drones moving about. A soft humming noise can be heard in the air, but other than a slight musical nature to it's tone, Glitch can't make heads or tails of it. A couple of minutes pass before Solari Sigma-2B emerges from the back, his cowled robe covering his facial features, and the large bulk of his unconventional frame.
Glitch wrote:"Hello. Progress on my order?" Glitch asks.
A buzz. "Yes, it is complete. It was a fun challenge." Solari says as one of the drones deposits a standard disk on the counter.

"Now I require the two hundred thousand credits for it's creation." Solari says, placing a single mechanical finger on top of the disk.

Az Rael, calm controlled Az Rael does what many do when their world view comes crashing down around their ears. He drinks, Az Rael drinks till the possibility of feelings or logic are removed. While this puts a stop gap between his current problems and tomorrow, the price is always the same. In the morning, Az Rael awakens with a mouth full of bile, and a head full of angry elephant bees nudging the meat of his brain.

It takes a few hours for the creature of pain and regret to fade and Az Rael to awaken once more. Now awoken and feeling generally "better" Az Rael has a mental tussle with past hims actions, and current hims problems. So bleary eyed, Az Rael sits back down at his personal computer and makes a vaunted effort to break the encryption, hours pass, as does many cups of hot caffeine, but it seems when Az Rael is having a break through, it falls through as an elusive dead end. In the end Az Rael finds himself still trying to answer questions he has.

Pertinax is just a hair away from shooting the pretentious patron when he feels a hand over his own. "Pert we use our words, or call Bonk, we do not engage in violence ourselves." Miro says in a quiet voice that Pertinax is sure, only he could hear over the noise in the bar. Miro leans over the bar. "Well friend, you have two options, leave, or let Bunk toss you out." Miro says in a calm even tone. Pertinax sees the ogroid bouncer shift at the comment, as if keyed into some hidden radio.

The pretentious patron gulps and scuttles off, likely not wanting to see if Bunk would literally throw him or not. Miro looks to Pert. "We get one or two like that a week, mostly harmless, definitely annoying." Miro says giving Pertinax a friendly pat of the shoulder before going back to work. Pertinax finds the rest of the shift pretty easy afterwards.

On day six Pertinax is challenged once more. The busy night already frantic is made more difficult, as the guest who appears in front of him would certainly find a reason to hate the Tarlok, a Talus.

Bryke

Bryke spends his days doing a lot of thinking it seems, sitting alone in one of Bel's spare workshops, Bryke isn't even sure how many of them the Old man has, but it is certainly more than any one human might need. Luckily for Bryke, either by servant or some manner of magic, the place is kept in pristine shape, with a multitude of notebooks and writing utensils for him to jot his ideas down on.

Bryke considers what would be needed to be done to start his own company, but the more he thinks of it, the less likely it seems. If he thought he had a lack of time now, a business would all but force him to retire from a life of adventure and revenge, at least for the foreseeable future.

Bryke also ponders the concept of Artificial Intelligence merged with Techno-Wizardry and Necromancy. Given Bryke's general non-knowledge of a third of the subject, he is at a loss if is even possible.

Again I reiterate that you've not given me a shopping list, nor have you posted anything in the tinkerer's thread. This is the best I can do with your post. ~Consumer

The sight of the robotics den with buzzing skulls and a lack of human life seems to genuinely please Glitch, as if he could kick back and pop open a can of oil. Glitch's main optic tracks to the humming noise that can be heard with a slight musical nature, prompting Glitch to cock his head to the side in interest? Observation: Would Solari appreciate the music that I have playing internally as to drown out the annoying ambiance of organics? Glitch considers as he records the tune being hummed by Solari. Glitch won't interrupt but will go to the counter and wait as the little buzzskulls flutter about. Concept: I need to acquire drone units. Glitch recognizes. When Solari returns, Glitch studies the emerging, cowled operator with curiosity. Theory: I wonder if this one is an escaped experiment, like me? Judging by it's look, its former masters must truly have been diabolical. Or perhaps it was intentional. Glitch reasons, unsure of who or what could've created such a thing but interesting in figuring it out.
Solari wrote:"Yes, it is complete. It was a fun challenge." "Now I require the two hundred thousand credits for it's creation.
Glitch offers a short nod and offers the full payment without a word, not taking the program package until payment is processed. His internal record running as he tallies the last three days. Log: Primary Objectives completed. Estimated 110,500UTC remaining; Goal to remain above 100,000UTC. Operation successful; will follow this model going forward. Potential Ally discovered, more to follow. I will inform Ultrix and bring them next time. Glitch logs, taking the program package and looking to Solari. "I will field test this package and shield installation. I have two new projects you may find challenging when I return next." Glitch states and then turns to leave. Before exiting, Glitch looks over the shop again as if admiring the location, but doesn't say a word and leaves.

Glitch then returns to the Rogue and swaps out his skill packages, exchanging his Technical Resources for the new Communication Advanced package. 1d4: [3] = 3 hours for swap.
What happens when a being designed to follow orders and programmed to kill eliminates those they served? Who is giving them the orders now? Scariest version; they are.

Alex stares at the screen, his mind resigned to the fact that the universe is not ready to reveal answers. My mind is not right... I need to get my mind right before I get myself or someone else killed. Alex closes the laptop and looks in the mirror, The answers will come. Just not today. Put it in a box Alex, lock it away. There is too much going on to lose yourself to this right now.

Alex stands up and nods to himself as if to agree with his own inner thoughts. He carriers the laptop to the dresser and sits it down. Another time, I'll try again another time.

Settling himself he decides to inspect his new purchases and make sure everything is in order. I almost died this last time out. I was overconfident, ill prepared. Not next time. Opting for a little study he decides to review the two new spells he had been working on for some time now. Practice will help clear my mind and maybe these will be useful on our next trip.

The two new spells he picked up from leveling up
Alex spends a good amount of time clearing his mind and focusing on the shadows and what they might offer. Concentrating on the shadows and projecting his vision as far as he can he looks and listens around the ship as he practices using his new spells.

After a good amount of time, he decides to walk the ship and see if any of the others have made their way back. His soul is restless from the recent events, and he looks forward to something that can take his mind off of the thoughts of his mother. If he finds someone he will ask plainly, "So what now?"

Perception (36%) 1d100: [98] = 98
JiC 1d20: [13] = 13 / 1d100: [12] = 12

Armor
Talisman of Armor of Ithan (Inactive)

Black boots
Blue pants
Blue and orange hooded jacket

Weapon
Ripper vibro-knife
Kimarxi hunting knife
HW-19 stun pistol (20/20)

Before going to work for his sixth shift, Pertinax stops at by the shops in Level 4. He picks up his repaired armor from the smyther and then goes to a Naruni dealer to pick up some grenades.* He arranges for his equipment to be delivered to the Rogue and then heads down to Level 13.

He does not enjoy the crowd at the bar, but he is able to manage. He does not make idle chatter with any of the patrons, taking orders and serving them with his usual cold efficiancy. Glitch would make a more charming server by comparison. In his former life as a dreadmaster, Pertinax would have assessed every patron - who were potential threats, who were hiding, which ones could he take in a fight. You could take any two of them in a fight, unarmed. Easily. Even now, when he is on the job, he sizes up everyone in a room and determines who in the room is relevant to his mission. But today, he is just coldly minding his own business, barely registering who is asking for what drink. That is, until the talus walks in.

The dreadmaster stares at the alien coldly waiting for him to order his drink. When he does, Pertinax gets it without saying a word. What is there to say? You are both far away from the Charlizon system and all the baggage that it entails. Just get him his drink and move on to the next patron. Pertinax puts the drink on the bar in front of the talus and waits for him to pay. For a moment, Pertinax feels vulnerable. He could stab you in the back right now. Get revenge against your kind. But assuming that the talus simply offers his credstick, Pertinax takes it without even a nod, shrugging off his paranoia. Your danger sense would have kicked in. And if he does attack, so be it. He would have reason to do so.

No, the former dreadmaster does not see the point of litigating what some would call war crimes. To the tarlok, might is right; his people have conquered the other planets in the system and subjugated their natives. But staring at one of the aliens that his kind has oppressed gives him a small moment of self-awareness. In the back of his mind, so far back even his own subconscious will not utter a word on the matter, he feels dissatisfied with that mentality. The constant violence had worn him down to a nub, a jagged, reactive, feral nub. And in that instant, he remembers why he took up his oft-broken code of non-violence.

How long can this cycle last? It was a question that Pertinax will need to answer on several levels.

* I think I forgot to post about this last time, but cost for all the equipment seems reasonable. Thanks Consumer.

A Glitch in the System
Glitch

For Glitch the time he's had not actively doing a job for whatever employer had needs of the Rogues, has been productive. Upgraded hardware, upgraded software, more munitions, all in all a win. Glitch finds the program suite loads as stated, without any issues, and is just what he was looking for.

Az Rael

Az Rael, perplexed at the new conundrum given to him, decides to set it aside for a while and focus on other things. In the remaining free time Az Rael has, he is able to work out the formula for two new spells to add to his growing magical arsenal.

Pertinax

Pertinax is confronted by a face of his past. Maybe not a specific individual, but certainly a similar one. The Talus for his part seems confused at first seeing a Tarlok bar tending, but doesn't seem to go out of his way to antagonize Pertinax either, ordering a few drinks over the course of the night, before closing out his tab and leaving a decent enough tip for the amount. When the bar is finally empty, and the crew is cleaning up the mess left behind, Miro approaches Pertinax. "You did well dealing with the Talus." Miro says giving Pertinax a friendly pat on the shoulder.

The last day of his servitude to the bar goes by without a hitch, and true to his word the Dursok hands over the talisman, and takes the proffered credit chip. "I hope you've learned something from all this. All in all you did pretty good dealing with people, so maybe there is hope for you yet." The Dursok says before shuffling off to his office leaving Pertinax to his own devices.
