Sunrise Bakery & Cafe (67)

Post by Underguard »

A working bakery with an attached coffee room. Sunrise makes bread, rolls, and pastries, all under two credits per item, layer cakes and pies for 5-10 credits, and damn good coffee for only one credit a cup. It is a favorite of business people heading to work in the morning and mercs
who rise early .

Jason orders a pint of the local brew and waits for the others to order and the waitress to walk off before speaking. He lights up a cigar. "Well gentlemen? Have you thought any further about how we are going to help Leo's people? I haven't had time to check with the Headhunter Academy to see if they can give us some advice. That is on the agenda for this afternoon. Have any of you learned anything helpful? Also, I have been rethinking how heavy we should travel. Ideas?"

Jason turns his head to look at each present Templar in turn. As he does, his eyes take in the cafe, trying to catch if anyone is trying to listen in or pay attention to them.

((Surveillance--97% / 1d100% )) Trying to catch anyone watching them

GM Note: No, no one seems to be paying the table a lick of attention save the waitress, who comes by to refill drinks. ~Consumer

Murdoc walks up and pulls out a seat. Grinning he says, "I haven't done much aside from some shopping. Picked up a few firearms for some ammo I had lying around. Not quite sure just what happened to the guns I used to have that it was for." He furrows his brows a bit in thought then dismisses the thought. Doesn't really matter at this point. I've got the guns and the ammo now, so if we come across any vamps I'll be as ready as I can be.

"I may be from Los Alamo but I don't really have any contacts down that way anymore and the people I did know were all in the Juicer sports." He gives a little shrug, then chuckles as Jason mentions rethinking how heavy we should travel, then speaks up, "The Behemoth is kinda slow and does scream 'look at me' especially down in the scrub and prairie lands where there's no real cover. Oh, by the way, I should have the SAMAS back in a day or two. So that's good news. Anyway, what were you thinking on alternate means of travel? Get something smaller and faster, and disguise it to look like a junk heap?"

Dhaltuun drives thru MT with the windows open. ”Not a bad place. I think I could be a resident of this place when I retire. I should think of an alternate plan for the future, I want to pay back this town. *Looks at Marcella* What do you think i should do?” He looks at his familiar out the corner of his eye. At that moment, Dhaltuun felt it.

He remembers being a boy, playing by the food truck. Looking around, he gets glimpses of the homeless who are around. Some are sleeping on cardboards, some are rummaging through the trash, even some druggies hanging around. Then the memories flash. He is on the floor of the truck, looking up and watching as Mom hands out leftover food to the homeless after truck hours are over. Dhaltuun remembers the respect that his family got back from those people. He lets out a smile as the memories fade. With a small shake of his head to clear cobwebs, ”Got it, Marcella. I will volunteer at or open a homeless center. Start as cook and work my way up.” ”Lets see if anyone on the team can help me set this up.”

Pulling up at the cafe, Dhaltuun hits his radio. ”Dhaltuun has arrived at the sunrise.” He gets out and lets Marcella fly to his shoulder. Making sure he has some jerky on him, he heads in. Before he goes, he checks on Vlad. ”Curled up and napping. I will just leave him out here.” He opens the buggy door and gives Vlad a rub on his ears. ”Vlad, i am going into the Sunrise Bakery. You are to watch the buggy. Make sure noone messes with it.” He turns and heads for the shop. Stopping just before he enters, Dhaltuun has an idea.

With a raised eyebrow, ”:Marcella, can you find a spot to watch the door as well as the buggy? Good girl. Here, take the pouch of jerky with you, Snackbut not too much. We need to make sure you stay beautiful.” Handing the pouch to his bird, Dhal watches as she flies up to a roof across the street from the cafe. Nodding, he heads in. Looking around, he spots his team’s table. Waving he heads As he passes the server, ”Can I get the biggest cup of coffee you got? 3 milk, 3 sugar… and a dozen apple turnovers for that table. Thanks.” Smiling, he heads to the table and sits down. ”what did i miss?”

[Rolls Held]

Murdoc grins as Dhaltuun walks up and pushes out a chair with his foot. "Hello, hello. We were just getting into a discussion on how heavy we should travel?"

He moves his foot back and leans forward a bit, putting his elbows on the table. Steepling his fingers, Murdoc says, "I was just saying how the Behemoth will stand out in the flat scrub lands, visible for miles. I just made a suggestion that we disguise some small fast vehicle to looks like junk heaps. Something hardly worth the effort to attack." He gives a crooked grin and leans back. I'm still conflicted on the Behemoth. Bringing hat's basically our home with us will be nice. But its so slow and well, a behemoth. He almost chuckles at the thought.

((ROLLS HELD))

Dhaltuun gives a polite head nod as Murdoc pushes out the chair. Getting settled, he takes a sip of his coffee. ”All i got is my old buggy. Mainly use it for shopping, but can be a scout car, i guess. She is a decent ride, but not the toughest. Most stuff out there now would squash her.” ((OOC: sdc buggy))

Dhaltuun listens as Murdoc talks about the behemoth. ”True. He is right about that. She is slow, but she is also home.” He looks at Murdoc with a playful grin, ” What would you suggest?? An pre-rifts RV??”

The waitress nods and wanders off before coming back a few minutes later with a large coffee and a dozen small apple pastries. Meanwhile the trio at the table discus plans while very normal activities happen around them.

This is the crux, discussing plans is all good a well, but one needs to act on them. So move on to buying these vehicles and modifying them, or move on to the next plan, I do not want to waste much more time on the planning phase. ~Consumer

Murdoc chuckles at Jason's comment, "I see where you're going with the hover vehicle but I'm not sure if there something like that in the size we need. With wheeled vehicles, we'll have more options and they'll cost less. Maybe something like the Mountaineer and the Road King. We could cut the back up on the Road King and drop in my SAMAS, make it a two seater." Or I could ride my hovercycle. I can't remember the last time I took that thing out. He chuckles again, "Hell, I think Discount Dan's might be a good place to start looking."

Murdoc clicks his coms, "We're headed there now. See you at home." He hops up and tags along behind Dhaltuun, "If there's not room for the three of us, I'll just jog along beside you. I've got a pretty good foot speed better if I'm in my FreeRunner or Roadrunner."

Back to the Farm.

The bakery's telephone rings... "Hello, do you deliver?" Samantha asks the question, even though she knows the answer and that it will be a while before they can get the order ready. "Yes, I'd like a chocolate cake, two or three tiers. A raspberry or strawberry filling if you have it? Do you do any writing on it?" She waits for the clerk to respond, "Yes, I'd like it to say, 'Congratulations! You have a new arm, now put a ring on it." She pauses for the clerk to ask a few more questions. "Anything else? Yes! I'd like a dozen muffins as well, a variety of flavors. And a dozen of a variety of pastries. That should be it.

The clerk gets additional details, "Name? Samantha. You can deliver it to the MARS Compound in the dockside. I'll pay be credstick when you deliver. Thank you.

The woman who answers has a thick accent. You cannot place it, but it sounds vaguely European. She is happy to fill the order, but it takes some time going back and forth with her to make sure the inscription is correct. The final price will be 300 credits: if she wants it in two week. A rush order would be more problematic, but possible. Say for 500 credits, the order could be ready tomorrow at noon.

Daisuke meanders into the shop, "Mmm, smells wonderful in here!" he remarks to the staff. "I'd like a baguette, two bear claws and a small coffee please."

Upon completion of the order, he sits himself down in one of the tall cafe chairs and just people-watches as individuals come through the cafe. I wonder if anyone thought about setting up an observation post here to keep an eye on the morning traffic that comes through here.

Should anyone make eye contact, Daisuke will smile pleasantly and say, "Greetings." in salutations.

A hulking titan Juicer walks in to the busy bakery, and stands at the counter. He's massive, and his hair has gone white at an early age. He's also crisscrossed with scars, indicating that for however long he's been juiced - it's been a rough time. Despite this, his eyes glint with a hint of kindness and mischief.

"I need about two dozen donuts. And does the coffee come with free refills?" He goes through the case, ordering a variety of donuts, and as they begin boxing them up, he says "Oh, no need for a box. I'll eat them here."

He looks around, and seeing most of the tables full, he strides over to one where Daisuke is sitting alone. "Hey pal."
Daisuke wrote:"Greetings."
"Hey... place is pretty packed. Mind if I pull up a..." He looks disdainfully at the thin metal cafe chairs, wondering for a moment if they will hold his weight. "... piece of floor and stand at this table while I eat?" He chuckles.

"My bodyguard is doing some shopping and I got some time to kill."

Daisuke's face breaks out into a wide grin, "We could try to lash four stools together and try our luck..." A small chuckle escapes the Arismal's mouth, "Of course, if it doesn't, then we'll owe the establishment four stools instead of one." The Arismal easily falls into the use of the royal 'we' as he senses a kindred spirit in the hulking bipedal leviathan.

Nodding at the Titan juicer's elegant solution, Daisuke is forced to agree, "Standing probably is your best bet. And yes, please, absolutely, join me. I welcome your company."
Leo wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 6:33 am"My bodyguard is doing some shopping and I got some time to kill."
Daisuke blinks in mute astonishment at Leo for a moment, "Your body has need of guarding? I bet you could squish my head like over-ripe grapes with your pinky finger!"

Smiling and chuckling along with the giant of a man, Daisuke offers his name, "I'm Daisuke Hamamatsu. Heroes for Hire." We really should have some sort of team logo or something for identification. "Aside from delectable pastries, what do you do to pass the time between missions?" The Arismal gives Leo a knowing nod as he recognizes another mercenary that New Paducah's informal namesake is based on. "I'm still getting to know the city a bit myself."

Daisuke wrote:"Your body has need of guarding? I bet you could squish my head like over-ripe grapes with your pinky finger!"
Leo chuckles. "Little inside joke. But..." He regards the Arismal carefully, but with a gleam of mischief in his eye. "I don't think I could crush it with just my pinky."

For an instant, a dark look crosses the Titan Juicer's face, perhaps a memory best forgotten, but in an instant it is gone. He smiles, and begins eating heroic amounts of pastries.
Daisuke wrote: "I'm Daisuke Hamamatsu. Heroes for Hire."
Leo nods, swallows his mouthful, and replies, "Leo Milton, Templar."
Daisuke wrote:"Aside from delectable pastries, what do you do to pass the time between missions?"
The big man shrugs. "I'm still really new to Merctown, actually. Still trying to habituate, you know? Find my way around. Which I mostly do by accompanying my teammates on shopping trips as their personal stevedore."

"But you're a Merc too, right? Heroes for Hire is another merc crew, I think. So I think... I might have a little difficulty crushing that head." Leo smiles, genuinely friendly and completely non-threateningly. "What kind of name is Daisuke? Where you from? I'm from down Lone Star way."
